Now firstly I will admit that some of it is fine, eminem can at times say some pretty meaningful stuff over a nice beat but mostly it is just some guy talking about how rich he is and how much he hates everybody that isn't like him.

I bet most artists of this genre are amazed at how lucky they are. Take "50 cent" as an example. We're talking about a man who used to be a gun-toting drug dealer and who now makes millions.... mumbling about being a drug dealer and talking about some guys birthday.

I don't want to hear that! :p

Its crap. But whatever floats your boat. I like rock music and my girlfriend does as well. However she drawes the line a Fear Factory(Heavy cyber metal group) turned up to max volume with the bass knocking glass's off shelves.

I rarely listen to rap, there are some acts I like though.
Firstly, NOT Eminem.. The man is... Well... A clown.

Wu Tang Clan (Gravel Pit! check that one out!), Tupac, 50 Cent, Dr Dre, Snoop, DMX. They have all had some good songs (kinda) but I can never listen to a full album... It ain't *that* good.

It's so painfully bad. Rap makes N'SYNC sound like Beethoven. It's even worse than heavy metal where the guys just grunt, yell, and pee on the stage.

Eminem had some catchy beats though. But 99% of his songs are about the same thing, so they get old fast.

Testosterone - brains = rap.

Commercialized rap is indeed crap... I'll say that thestonesfan is correct in his enterpitation of this kind of "music"..

I want to take a gold medallion, whack 50 cent in the head and say "Where's your bling bling now?"

Now that was very ignorant of you. I bet you ain't even heard the best the genre has to offer.

Anyway, I don't like rap but whatever floats yer tugboat.

It depends...
I don't like rap either, but I know those people who say that trip hop bands (like portishead) are rap bands as well (they don't understand anything) - in this case I don't think it's so bad :)
BTW where did the word "rap" come from? Someone told me it comes from the word "wrap" :)

Like with all kind of music, the most commercial branch of it is always crap.
But "Rythme And Poetry" is not crap.

I've actually heard a few "hip-hop" songs I don't mind. The Roots, for example. Listen to "The Seed 2.0" and you cannot tell me that all hip-hop is bad (although they're alot more rock than rap).

But yes, the majority of rap is terrible. Modern rock is pretty bad, but modern rap is bad through and through.

There is a few songs in almost every music genre I like, including rap. I can't help thinking, though, how our parents (or grandparents) had the same opinions of Elvis or rocknroll in general, and I have no doubt that way back when, some people disapproved of the direction Mozart was taking music.

Well, maybe it's time the old people were actually right about something! :)

I was in high school when rap exploded. I thought it sucked then too. I think people like it because the bass lets them show off their car stereos.

I agree with what you said there.

And it's not really my kind of music.

Rock is doo doo.
Rock is just a bunch of pansies who like getting drunk and pretending they're cool. The RIAA can only force this crap down my throat for so long before well :vomit:

I don't like it, although I laughed heartily when I first heard "the eminem show". There are some german rap groups with funny lyrics too, but most of you wouldn't consider it as rap.
