Is rejecting democracy extremist?

BTW - I think this Korwin-Mikke has some ancestors from Hungary (see King Maciej Korwin - Matthias Corvinus). :)

He was known as King Matthias Corvinus "the Just"... :lol:

Well - Korwin is not a typically Polish surname, neither is (probably, I'm not sure) Mikke. Both are rather exotic.

IIRC, some Hungarian nobility escaped to Poland following the Turkish victory at Mohacs in 1526.

==========================

Korwin was also a Coat of Arms (as AdamCrock told me). Most certainly surname originates from Coat of Arms.

It was probably originally a Coat of Arms of some Hungarian nobility, including also King Matthias Korwin.

But it could be also that some originally Polish family of knights adopted a typically Hungarian Coat of Arm.

Just generally, form a democrat's point of view, rejection of democracy is pretty extremist. It puts one in a clearly adversarial camp, reagardless of what one thinks should or could replace democray.

This is not really a problem unless the media is overwhelmingly controlled by one person or group, which is a sign of a democracy in trouble, not a normal state of affair. People are always going to be influenced by Things, whether it be the news media, hearsay, clergymen, local strongmen, or customs and traditions. An atmosphere that even superficially encourages debate and competition between Things is better than one that doesn't at all.

News media are far more centralised than any of the examples you have named.

Who picks them?

At first, the person who founds the state or refounds it. After that, through co-optation.

What virtues are we considering, and how do we measure them?

Primarily courage and intelligence. We can of course not objectively measure them, though it should be clear we should not pick who display the opposite traits.
