It seems like nearly every forum I go on, most of the users are liberal, usually outnumbering the conservative views 2:1. Has anyone else experienced this

Yeah, that's pretty much how it is.

I can't think of any special reason as to why it is that way. Maybe it's that the internet allows you to find out more about the world itself? Hell, but then I look at myself, who pores over news from other countries daily, and is one of the most conservative people on this forum.

Ever considered that might be because the internet is full of people from around the world, rather than just people you know! ;)

Yes it's a wake up call for conservatives. You end up meeting people from around the world. Plus the internet can broaden your understanding of history, politics and so on. This CAN lead to a more liberal mindset.

Actually I find most people I meet on the internet who are up for a political or moral discussion are actually more conservative than the people I mix with usually. This I expect is due to the fact that Americans make up the majority of net users and there are strong conservative camps represented by these users. Also my friends and I are all raging liberals to one degree or another!

It has to do with the large number of youth who populate the net.

I have an American conservative mindset on US history, and someother stuff and I practically grew up on the internet. 10 years, 1995 to present.

The internet is why I lean to the right a little on alot of issues.

I attribute this to meeting so many liberals and alot of anti-Americans.

Conservatives will become more and more prevalent on the net in the next few more years due to counter reaction. The same thing that happened to America in the 80s.

Well, considering most of the world is "liberal" by American standards...obviously for an American Conservative, the internet is going to seem liberal.

It's also completely possible that you're only going to forums that are ideologically similar to your own.

The giant mutinational corporations that own the U.S. media arent liberal.

i think that it's similar to what the print media is in the US: overtly liberal (for the most part).
As Bozo said, the most part of the US media is not liberal. The conservatives just like whining that.

Depends on what media outlet your talking about.

And also depends on which sector of society its reaching to.

Mainstream US news is moderate by American standards. And Fox which leans to the right.

While, MTV, VH1 and other artsy kind of outlets for instance targets the youth and leftists and thus are pretty liberal.

its because the center politically in the rest of the world is farther to the left then it is in America. A centrist in the US is a right-winger in Europe. So, if you're anything to the right of a big liberal in America, its going to seem that a lot of people are more liberal than you on the internet.

:goodjob:

You two gentlemen hit the nail on its head.
On topic, I don't know really if there are so many more "liberals" on internet, except if one defines liberals very broadly.
How "liberal" is this forum, for instance?

I disagree with whoever said that the internet makes you liberal. I was far more liberal when I discovered the internet than I am now; if anything, it's made me more "conservative", if you could use that term to describe me. (which is questionable)

Rather, the internet is simply more likely to be used by people who are liberal. It is disproportionately young and all.

Young, urban, rich, and foreign, its no wonder the internet is full of socialists, communists, and other people.

The ratio is similar in real life too.

I have noticed that... probably because of the youth, again

If you are from the US and mingle with Europeans, Canadians, etc. then you will find them to be liberal compared to the center US view.
