I view Civilized as this: If we gave you the ingredients for a nuke, and you were able to make a good one, then you are civilized.

Antartica is the most homophobic though... 0 Homosexuals. (7 True Residents Though:mischief: )

Couldn't we just have said "western world" instead?

As far as I understand it it's hard to find a straight male hairdresser in Sweden.
Alexander Bard, of Army of Lovers fame, has said that he was completely surprised when he hit on French hairdressers, and they were straight. :crazyeye:

On topic: yes, I think that the US is more homophobic than the rest of the civilized world, and I blame the religious majority for that. :)

no, its not, there are worse countries around. for example, Singapore, Japan. Thou these countries have already attained developed country status, its still very conservative deep in.

Its still consider very liberal in most USA great cities. not sure about the countryside thou.

That’s often the same in Philippine expat communities. Most people I’ve paid to cut my hair are ‘bakla’, and it is a sort of stereotype for the Pilipino hairdresser to have spiked hair and speak with a lisp. Most Pinoys here are accepting of gays – after all, they perform a necessary function in society. But gay marriage? Nooooo. We’re just too Catholic to take it that far.
Yup. Que horror! :D

 He'd achieve the same results here. It's not unusual to find a male hairdresser here in China with the required "look" - fancy and colored hair, flamboyant clothes etc., but without the "movement". They're straight, and sometimes their wives and kids are with them.

Out here in redneck flyover country the hillbillies in Minneapolis somehow elected 5 gays to the 13 seat city council. How the hell did that happen!?! We must be stupid midwesterners who don't know who we are voting for.

Seriously, I think it depends where in Europe and the US you are talking about. Europe is a big place, it contains countries as diverse as Albania, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and Ukraine
