Is this a good idea, or have I just gone too long with out sleep?

I don't know if anyone has suggested this before or not? Or whether the masses will take to this idea?

We have the babe threads, hunk threads (I think it should be re-named the stud pumpy thread ;)), give us a song type threads etc.

What about a poetry thread? Where people post poems they like and/or ones they come up with the fly?

And no - no Ryhmes about a man from Nantucket! ;)

I'm no connisuer of poetry, but I'd be up for it. Anyone else?:)

You should have just started it, it's rather silly to ask if people want it, if people post in it they do, and vice-versa.

Actually I believe that our President, er thats Mr. President, started one, IRC.

Start another if you like, but there were some fun postings on that old thread.
I started an Art one, Ideally a good idea, but it fizzled....

Music and babes seem much more accessable and acceptable.

That be a very interesting thread- a good change of pace from the what song do you like out of the neo-grunge-rap-titianic-metal-era ( ) and all teh you suck because you're american and the you are all stupid idiots and inferior to me because you have a religon and the american deserved what it got in 9/11 threads. [/rant]

But seriously I think it'd get lost in a forum as active as this one. I'm not too good with poetry myself but enjoy reading and disscussing other's works... Wow the more I dwell on this the more I like it I'd bet there'd be enough fodder in a forum this size for it's own forum but alas I shall stop dreaming and come to terms this is a fourm of neo-nazi-left-wing-geek-gamers. :ack:

The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep
And miles to go before I sleep.

End of one of my favourite poems. Robert Frost.
You can read a lot into those lines

I like poetry threads. :yeah:

Not all about Death Spy!! Look at Oscar Wilde. :p

They have classics and submitted poems from chumps like us. :) Some are bad, some are nice. Tastes differ but hey... And what about that Browning chick?

So which one (or more!) is yours, Floppa??

Western wind, when will thou blow,
The small rain down can rain?
Christ, if my love were in my arms
And I in my bed again!

One for Rodgers ....

License my roving hands
And let them go
Above, between, behind, below.

Edited - I mean one that Rodgers would appreciate
Er I mean - - O never mind

That Poem was not very deep deep deep.

If you don't find that piece very deep then you shouldn't critique poetry.

Two of my favourite early Poe works:

Romance, who loves to nod and sing,
With drowsy head and folded wing,
Among the green leaves as they shake
Far down within some shadowy lake,
To me a painted paroquet
Hath been - a most familiar bird -
Taught me my alphabet to say -
To lisp my very earliest word
While in the wild wood I did lie,
A child - with a most knowing eye.

Of late, eternal Condor years
So shake the very Heaven on high
With tumult as they thunder by,
I have no time for idle cares
Through gazing on the unquiet sky.
And when an hour with calmer wings
Its down upon thy spirit flings -
That little time with lyre and rhyme
To while away - forbidden things!
My heart would feel to be a crime
Unless it trembled with the strings.

-Edgar Allen Poe

In visions of the dark night
I have dreamed of joy departed --
But a waking dreams of life and light
Hath left me broken-hearted.

Ah! what is not a dream by day
To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray
Turned back upon the past?

That holy dream -- that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam
A lonely spirit guiding.

What though that light, thro' storm and night,
So trembled from afar-
What could there be more purely bright
In Truths day-star ?

- Edgar Allen Poe

I got a poem sent me (at work - and the partners read all post before giving it to fee earners!) from a French girl by a 16th century English/Scottish poem (John Locke?) called something like "On Going To Bed With A Woman" - very embarassing but quite appropriate!

Wish I knew which poet/poem it was :D

I went to submit some poems but I could not locate the "Love Is Worthless" section so I gave up. ;) I am not good with poetry. Now and then, I become inspired and it flows from top of my head like nothing and it is realy good, but those times are few and far between. Kinda like art. Now and then, I just go nuts on a drawing and it is amazing. Honestly truly impressive. But that is like 2% of the time. I dunno...

Wild nights, wild nights!
If I were with thee
Wild nights should be
Our luxury! :p
