Is "uppity"

Worshiping any inanimate object is weird. But no there isn't anything wrong with liking, respecting and flying a confederate type flag.
Yeah, I know, I've just responded using the same words as the quoted post.

Nothing wrong with it. It just helps people understand where you are coming from when you call a black man uppity.

And if he's really uppity?

Uppity isn't a racist word if it's not used in a racist manner. Kinda like the word n****r.

Only for close-minded people.

The word itself isnt racist, if those muck slingers want to believe it is, they can do it on their own.

It doesn’t matter whether the speaker intended it to be racist. Unless he is a complete idiot he is aware that many people, what half the forum, view it as racist. Now what is the effect of throwing it out there. The news media knows the general connotation of this word as viewed by many people in this context and reports on it. The Obama campaign says nothing, no demand for apology, no righteous indignation, no accusation of racism BUT we have a 5 page thread on it. All over the country people discuss it. You argue with your brother in law about this instead of the economy or whatever. Your brother in law is offended because he thinks you are falsely accusing him of racial insensitivity. He then votes for McCain because he is mad at YOU. Score one for McCain. Anything that keeps the discussion off policy or on race is a win. There will be a more of this in the next 2 months and it is a pure race baiting . Anything to avoid looking at the man behind the curtain.

You seem to be one of those people who doesn't.

True.

I just think that when you think too much about something it becomes unhealthy and you end up with conspiracy theories.

And yeah, I realise the irony of that statement :mischief:

I am part Irish. Dont preach to me about a history of abuse. Again, GET OVER IT ALREADY.

Well, I'm all Irish and its laughable to suggest we have had it as bad as black people over the years.

I think this does have a racist connotation, but I'm surprised to hear people saying its a US thing, I've only ever heard it from English racists. Like everyting else, take it in context. Its not an inherently racist word, if you have a bit of cop on you'll know when its used in a racist way and you'll know when it isnt.

To me, no.

I hadn't even known its racially-charged definition before.
