IS

This is happening all over Turkey but I'm in the northeast right by mount Ararat. I saw it earlier today. Then got back to the city and this was happening. I'm supposed to be back in Iraq tomorrow and I hope things open up again.

Apparently the pro-intervention riots in Turkey resulted in 12 protestor deaths at hands of the police according to news here

so , what's on ? Perfect stuff for the end game , our demise , destruction of this country and so on and on . We hear the flight operations cost 7 to 10 million dollars a day ; as if without this "war" on ISIL , there would be like no training flights to burn the same exact amount of gas ... Must be real glee when Pentagon press bosses get to declare that they got two tanks , one in Rakka and one elsewhere . While Ankara can do nothing more that watch while mobs go nuts as ISIL gains one street after another . 3 deaths already in demonstration as Kurdish politicians lead their "voter" base into a frenzy . The quotes are in , since the seperatists -despite the rhetoric- are still all about tribal connections 'disciplined' by Marxist-Leninist organizational precepts ; when their party says go they go ...

the fall of the town is the price the seperatists are likely bound to pay ; for their smugness at the time the Barzanists ran . Their sin being the golden age when their "warriors" stopped the ISIL as the shiny uniforms were nowhere to be seen . There is an order to all things ; America doesn't forgive those who outperform its blue eyed boys when the apple-cart turns upside down to prove the fruity stuff in question are pears ... The seperatist politicos , of course , wow the town will never fall in the typical press release business ; the victories are always present , although they take place ever closer to home ... Although as per the first paragraph there is not much to worry them , they are also encouraged by their contacts with the Western think tanks with their glorious maps on the walls that show the 'stan in its hugely huge glory .

people tend to believe that as if gospel truth . America says and it happens , right ? Which is the essence of this new Turkey and the "anger" in the Kurds . America decreed the Old was to be no more and all those secularists merely asked for a pony-show that would end with their tail not between their legs . Democracy came to Turkey and this country was to "grow" with the Kurds . A buzz word actually used for PR ; really means the seperatists would infiltrate foreign lands and bring them to Ankara's fold . ı must admit ı was a fool to suppose the smarties were talking about economic growth to accrue from "Peace" , like until this very week , instead of war where the blood of Arabs is "Halal" ... Those unliked by the New Turkey of course .

why doesn't it happen then ? Well , for starters a probable half of the New Turkey has no love for the Kurds -own or foreign- in the first place . The Congregation based its end-game to destroy the Party on that with an attempt to get the Party Intelligence chief , who was meeting the seperatists in Oslo . A quarter of the country will be given , with equal shares in the remaining 3 quarters and there has to be something to cover for all that . Syria is not yet invaded , so you go figure . The proxies to get Syria has grown into structures of quite different agendas under America's careful nurturing ; under the risk of an economic meltdown Ankara has to follow the Gulf Arabs' path ... Now that the said structures are carefully molded into ISIL for the duration and the entire existance of the Arabs in the 20th Century revolves around which tribes will have the oil wells and since the Shia are far too many over the fields in Southern Iraq , it's war . War over Kerkük as the final battle and Barzanists will have actual air cover while they rebuild their claim to the gods of war stuff . Hence Ayn-Al-Arab under attack for three weeks on . ı would have called it so long ago , but the glorious smarties were always referring to that town with something else . It's the glory of ISIL that the map name is back in use . ı wasn't really aware .

driving the seperatist cadres kinda off ... They feel actually cheated , they believe they defeated the Turks , Kemalists and all the baggage , they think Islamists rode on the discontent and owe it to them , the seperatists . So it goes on that the defeated Turkish Army must accept its new masters -who brought the Islamists to top with their victory and the Islamists believe Barack Hussein is of their own doing- and go fight the enemies of the seperatists . Back in the days of glory we were foremost supposed to control Barzanists and eventually replace them with our new masters ... Now it was about defeating the Jihadists and handing over the spoils to new fangled "brotherhood" . Failing that at least saving the "democratic" cantons they have , with engaging ISIL and being the fools with boots on the ground . When they saw this would end up with lots of generals swinging on the trees they turned this into a demand for a route for weapon deliveries . Though one must readily accept the new Turkey likes Arabs far more ...

and the glorious America still keeps it on and on . With the jerk called Biden , the Vice President . Who talked the talk and went onto apologise . When the New Turkey can not get the victory as fact , it's given talk . With glorious accounts of America had to accept our new found greatness ; the last week was a non-stop rehashing accounts of how Biden had to step back . Before one gets reminded that stupid Veeps are an American hall-mark , Dan Quayle was a spectacular choice by Bush I . Of such "determination" Quayle practically ensured no Washington library and Washingtonian grassy patches would be in simultenous use ... It might have been really regretted ...

the result at the coalface being demos and stuff . Yeah , happened before too . The difference lies in the context . The Kurds feel they were promised the world and the moon . Previously they personally would be personally involved for "tribal" reasons , knowing very well the entire concept of the State depends on some social contract and the state they professed to hate were also providing the means to survive the feodal bonds , eventually breaking them for good . ı went to bed 01:30 in the morning with 3 dead on the TV , woke up at 08:30 with 10 to 18 dead on the TV . The feeling of hatin' but still belongin' is effectively replaced by pure hatred ; the New Turkey is all the omelette business and there are so many eggs , right ?

the Greek relief can be measured through the Greek Cypriots' scuttlng of diplomatic talks on the pretext of Turkish ships' presence in drilling areas for natural gas .

Hm... 18 dead in a day in protests is indeed quite heavy. Were the dead all from the local Kurdish population?

@NovaKart: try to be safe.

Probably they were all from the Kurdish population protesting, I haven't heard about any police killed and if what's happening hear is typical, they normally stay in their armored cars spraying gas. Eventually I did see 11 riot police with helmets and shields but the crowd has mostl dispersed by then. It seems really futile, just a lot of damage done. I heard the protests are supposed to stop after tomorrow.

^^ So you never made it to Armenia?

Finally someone is voicing my opinion in Toronto Star:
Canada should take the issue of military action against the extremist group to the UN so that the coalition's fight against lawlessness is authorized by international law, Thomas S. Axworthy argues.

No, either way I didn't have enough time so I wasn't planning on going that far but I saw Mt. Ararat so I was almost there.

About Turkey. Seems like they will do nothing to help Kobani, a city literally on Turkish border. Kurds in Turkey are furious and this may spark some unrest there.

Hmm. It's a bit complicated. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/isis-in-kobani-still-no-sign-of-turkey-reacting-to-threat-on-its-border-as-john-kerry-says-preventing-the-fall-of-the-town-is-not-a-strategic-objective-9783372.html

It's not just that the Turks don't want to encourage Kurdish separatists (though I think refusing to help the Kurds only adds fuel to their cause). They also want to see the fall of Assad (I think).

They're probably also reluctant to commit ground troops to a conflict that's likely to be prolonged with no clear exit strategy. Just like the rest of NATO.

They're also the power nearest to the conflict, with 180,000 refugees already on their territory.

Maybe?

I've heard, very recently, that NATO airstrikes have driven ISIS forces back into the outskirts of Kobani.

It's caused a lot of unrest in Turkey. I'm in eastern Turkey and for 3 days so far everything has been shut down. People are rioting. It's crazy, it's like a war here.

I think NATO should probably try to force Turkey to get involved by invoking the collective defense clause of NATO. While no NATO member has actually been attacked by ISIS yet, I think there is still a strong enough case to be made to allow the invocation of that clause. Doing so would put Turkey in the position of either joining the fight or being booted out of NATO.

Bottom line: We need Turkey to get into the fight, and I think NATO needs to do everything in their power to force them into it. It is also in Turkey's best interest to get into the fight now, because if ISIS succeeds in Syria, how long does the Turkish government think it will be before ISIS starts causing trouble within their own borders.

I kept hearing today that if Turkey sent in troops, they would use that as an excuse to fight the Kurds as well. Is that not true seeing as how the Kurds are rioting because they will not fight along side of them? If Turkey does not want Assad, why would they want Kurds to gain territory either?

The obsession with Assad will lead to this whole fiasco lasting far longer than it should. Assad is bad, the rebels and ISIS are far worse.

Turkey trades with IS! Enough said.

Turkey doesn't need encouragement to do something about IS, and the mutual defense clause doesn't apply here, so it can't be 'invoked' either.

there is this "vine" in our garden , grown over the garage in the almost 30 years that passed since we moved . Primarily useful for the leaves ; you roll them around a lump of rice to cook "Sarma" , light and delightful when properly done . Grapes on the other hand require servicing ı am unable to provide . To protect them from flies you must a apply a layer of fine dust after each time it rains . This summer's rains were surprisingly heavy , too . Ruined the entire "produce" . Which would have been 2 kilos at most , anyhow . So , ı was up on the garage roof cutting away the rotten grapes on Thursday morning . And this delivery truck comes by , stops and actually reverses . ı can hear the driver looking at me and talking to his pal riding shotgun . There is this uprising and here ı am , collecting garbage ... Instead of perhaps putting the uprising down ?

not bad , in the good old golden days ı would be accused of plotting to overthrow the Goverment by inciting the seperatists . The city apparently now thinks ı am a police chief ; the accusation being that ı shirk my duty . Was apparent somehow that ı had just one week left by the end of September ; you could hear shopkeepers being so jokingly joking with me . Don't know what happened since the fortnight that passed ; in the meantime ı had so much fun with the web cafe owner that blocked the use of the USB drives and straight away told me that the Police had told him so . Didn't ı warn Pentagon that such events would be converted into 30 km high mushrooms ? Me being tired of easy victories against me ?

dear truck driver , ı have never claimed that ı would do anything on anything . My entire claim revolves around that ı am the next commander of the Starfleet and ı will command the orbital bombardment of the US . To put uprisings and stuff , ı would have to bring in the Klingons and trust me , you wouldn't like their way of doing things with hand disruptors . The chances are obviously 1 in 2 that you voted for the A-K-P , something like at least 5 times in the 9 elections and referanda they won ; means you also voted for Turkey "growing" with the Kurds ... Gotta understand that they feel cheated , with the thing that the Army they disgraced and stuff is like so much scared of some Arabian dudes with long hair . Now , ISIL actually also expects the same Army to come and destroy the "Democratic Cantons" ; explains the exceedingly slow advance into Ayn-al-Arab ... Which is hardly as much annoying as the Americans demanding to learn what this country will do . We lunatics desire America to go to hell ; as for Ankara isn't it always that America tells and Ankara jumps ? So dear truck driver , instead of whining in the glorious New Turkey way of complaining on why people don't go and fight for you , grab some heavy wooden stick and put that stinking uprising yourself ... Don't the strategists and thinkers of the New Turkey always complain that the "Millet" is so lazy and does not act in defence of the glorious New Turkey ? Throughout the last year the expert who shames all experts and chief advisor to PM whined and whined about how the "Millet" didn't act when they hanged Santa Adnan , aka Menderes , back in '61 or '62 .

not that there is an uprising . The first night's bloody "scorecard" is heavily tilted by the thing that the seperatists attacked an "office" of the Jihadists in Diyarbakır , the 10 killed there are an "internal" thing of the Kurds . There could also have been massive Police casualties , too : A water-cannon truck ran over some 10 cops lined up for duty . And dear truck driver , ı don't know about the people you see around , but on Wednesday ı saw a couple of very happy Police guys ... You know these days the Congregation doesn't the like New Turkey it created . One would have been confused about the violence the seperatists showed , considering it would have been counter-productive . Never minding such "terror" was how they taught millions of otherwise apathetic Kurds to come under the "banner" . Terror actually pays well , when the Goverment you are fighting or something actually prefers your Marxist-Leninistic mumbo jumbo is preferable to Labour Unions with actual clout . Dear truck driver , possibly you weren't even born by May Day 1977 ; there was real scare that the Left could come and start some Socialist dictatorship . The Kurdish movement then became the solution ; under the glorious supervision of America . The Left would be high-jacked by the Kurds' bloody uprising and the Turkish middle class would unite behind the flag , shaming the Left leaning sons and daughters to the fold , too . Dear truck driver , the chances are hardly less than 1 in 2 that you would be like shaming me , casting curses on me , even possibly opposing me had ı been real and putting down that uprising .

and of course , the seperatist politicos were so humble into the 2nd day . They blame agent-provocateurs for burning Turkish flags , massive damage to small business owners where demonstrations took place and shooting at Police . They talk reasonably , if you will ... Easy to grasp , in the order of things they are simply meant to be a "distraction" for the Turks ; when the time for the Final Solution for the Turks comes . They are supposed to be exchanged for maximum number of casualties on the Turkish side . Barzani gang thinks they will come in just then , to save their long oppressed brothers and become the like the owners of the Middle East . Arabs know there is a spare boot on the other foot and trust they will rule over a much cleansed Middle East , free of Turks and Kurds at the same time ; so that they can like kill every single freaking Farsi here and there without any kind of distractions . Doesn't end there , too . Take your cue from the thing that Jesus Christ can be depicted as a blue eyed blond ; certain types of coloureds attract trouble like a lightning rod ...

so , the Westerners simply talk of accepting a buffer zone as per the demands of the glorious New Turkey . The seperatists immediately call for a break , knowing it very well "that" such buffer zones will be meant to "protect" their easily won in 2011 spoils . There is much talk that all those refugees from the Syrian infighting will be dumped into those areas to change population percentages . The Kurd Ankara likes is the Kurd with the oil well , right ? Considering the shiny uniforms of Barzani are already starting to forget that they cleared Musul for ISIL in return for Kerkük and were much annoyed by their "can-do" colleguages under seperatist direction , the politicos in Turkey are exceedingly capable of understanding what Washington press releases mean . Especially those about how Ayn-al-Arab might fall and it doesn't mean anything . Get this as well : Barack Hussein is as spineless as anybody else , he is most unlikely to be impressed by seperatist fighting qualities as euphimistically referred as "voluntary fireballs" . Every dude and his son is in the suicide bombing these days and the only referred case ı have so far come across involves a woman and a grenade . The Turks and stuff do not subscribe into this growing with Kurds stuff and it's hardly a fault of mine that a woman would save a grenade for herself lest she would be caught alive . And not a case of dog-eat-dog either , considering the anger creating new volunteers and stuff . Turkish journos are already talkin' of how the other two "cantons" are Kursks to the Stalingrad of Ayn-al-Arab which might yet fall ...

we in Turkey have lots of "word of the ancestors" , stuff that doesn't make much sense if you are kinda not in the context somewhat . Take the phrase "Kervan yolda düzülür." Luckily , ı have read some National Geographic article and understand camels are a mess to control while in mass . As such , when the caravan point starts moving he's supposed to stop like never for the animals somehow follow the lead and if the lead stops collecting all the animals will take the whole day with each of them going its own way . Meaning is ? Taking advantage of this hatred growing out of ISIL attacks leading to pointless street terror and the stuff which leads to "Westerner" anger which is naturally leading to "conclusions" that maybe ISIL is doing a good work in attacking Kurds is qute dangerous . For realizing "Imperial ambitions" ; America has already planned all the pitfalls .

Probably they were all from the Kurdish population protesting, I haven't heard about any police killed and if what's happening hear is typical, they normally stay in their armored cars spraying gas.

the numbers tend to average that 50% of the dead are the result of seperatists fighting "ISIL members at home / home visit" and also last night 2 senior police officials were killed . Took half an hour to find the drive-by shooting car ; 3 occupants killed , one captured wounded .
