IS

I'm sure there were plenty of people against the US intervening in WW2 too. "Yes, the Nazis are slaughtering the Jews, but not all Germans support them.."

The best would of course be if the intervention was initiated by an alliance of Muslim nations beating down on ISIS, but fat chance of that happening.

Yes! For once Muslims need to show their true colors. If Islam is truly religion of peace let's ask "moderate" Muslim leaders what help do they need to bring peace in their own region.

ISIS was always a thing since the deposition of Saddam and they pretty much controlled all of Southwestern Iraq which was regarded as an empty desert with no relevance. Turned out it was apparently relevant when Assad had to put up with the Syrian opposition which gave ISIS its opening. Everything came together at the right place at the right time: The US deposed Saddam, then when Assad got into trouble, ISIS had the right ingredients for success.
Why regard "ISIS" as something relevant? It's just the acronym for the latest group of extremist Muslims getting together. It's not the first time nor the last, and it's obvious that the support they have is great enough make them a threat to several nations. ..and no, they won't disappear if the Western world leave them alone. They will keep cleansing the country and spread.

A Turkish aid worker who survived the Mavi Marmara incident in 2010 has been killed in a US-led air strike targeting ISIL positions in the Syrian city of Idlib, Turkish media has revealed.

40-year-old Yakup Bulent Alniak was in Syria to carry out aid work ahead of the Islamic Eid al-Adha feast, organizing the distribution of meat of Syria's needy.

Alniak, who in 2010 escaped unharmed when Israeli commandos raided IHH Humanitarian Relief's Gaza-bound Mavi Marmara aid flotilla, in which ten Turkish citizens were killed after being hit by live ammunition, had been in Syria for two months.

He leaves behind his wife and two children.

OMG, America is now going after aid workers.

It's almost like there's civilian casualties in a war *gasp*.

The IS is driven by true believers.

certainly not . A basic tenet of Islam is the belief in the Judgement Day . And these guys act on the basic premise that they are not to be questioned . There is this kinda vast gulf between what they preach and what they do .

The reason most Western Muslims don't take large parts of their scriptures literally anymore, lies in secular progress and in their religion losing the argument on a hundred front against modernity. We can hope that Islam will follow the path of the Jewish and Christian religions, whose holy books are just as bad, if not worse, than those of Islam, which have been beaten and battered by secular moral progress to the point that they, in most countries, have had to retreat into the realm of personal privacy.

certainly not in the sense this is a argument that suits the likes of ISIL in proving that there's a concerted attack against the True Faith . What you would need was an example that clearly showed Muslims could work with those "Western only" values to prosper and stuff . And let me guess that's exactly why the US spent so many years to destroy the "Secular" Turkish state as soon as it showed signs of actually becoming a working or at least semi-working Western kind of democracy . With forcefully acting to create a "Moderate" Islamic society that currently allows headscarves for female students down to age of 9 and bans the short sleeved shirts for the same , in the same breath as a defence of giving options to people .

Even more disturbing is the fact that this denial is underlined by liberals throughout the West, who echo in on saying that Islam itself is not a problem.

certainly not . Since Saudi Arabia and its cohorts still follow the US designs well enough to create the organizations that have bled the Nation State concept in the Middle East so that a new Nation State can be created for further havoc .

Our political correctness, it seems, has run amok. We must overcome this state of affairs and be able to call a spade a spade. And we don't have forever time for it. It may be a matter of a few years, or at best a decade or two, until extreme Islamic groups get their hands on nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction. We must face our problems directly and relentlessly to avoid what could evolve into truly catastrophic outcomes.

the ISIL happily uses Chlorine and you hear exactly zilch on that , Damascus at least tries moderation for everybody knows America will bomb . Those "creatures" with WMD is a choice America did long ago . 'Cause you know America has a plan and when that happenz America will tell Saudis to stop and Saudis will stop ...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2773268/ISIS-militants-fighting-Iraqi-government-forces-just-six-miles-Baghdad-despite-Western-airstrikes-against-terror-group.html
Fierce fighting has been reported on the outskirts of Baghdad where ISIS militants are attempting to seize control of the Iraqi capital - despite ongoing Western airstrikes against the terror group.

The fighting is taking place just one mile to the west of the city, with government forces desperately trying to hold off the militants, who allegedly killed up to 1,000 soldiers during clashes yesterday.

ISIS have held a number of towns and villages close to the Iraqi capital since earlier in the year, when government troops melted away following a lightning advance in the west of the country - enabling the terrorist group to seize further swaths of territory for their so-called caliphate.

Reports that ISIS militants are now just one mile from Baghdad came from the Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East - an organisation supporting the work of Canon Andrew White, vicar of the city's St George's Church, the only Anglican church in Iraq.

In a message posted on Facebook, the group said: 'The Islamic State are now less than 2km away from entering Baghdad. They said it could never happen and now it almost has.

'Obama says he overestimated what the Iraqi Army could do. Well you only need to be hear a very short while to know they can do very very little,' they added.

The claims were backed up by Canon White himself, who shared the message just hours after he had earlier suggested the group were approximately six miles from the centre of Baghdad.

In a message he also posted on Facebook, Canon White had said: 'The Islamic State are now within 10km of entering Baghdad. Over a 1000 Iraqi troops were killed by them yesterday, things are so bad. As I said all the military air strikes are doing nothing. If ever we needed your prayer it is now.'

The militants are understood to have had their advance halted by airstrikes yesterday at Amiriyat Al-Falluja yesterday - a small city about 18 miles south of Fallujah and 40 miles west of Baghdad.

But the clashes did not force the bulk of the fighters - with many of them now having made their way to the Baghdad suburbs for this morning's clashes.

Ooer.

you're kidding , right ? Now that one US plane drops a bomb everyday on those 4000 guys surrounding Ayn Al Arab or something with 20 tanks or so -as reported by Some strategy sites- so tht they don't get any particular attention- while the US is bombing a captured Syrian airbase so that it can't be used to conduct flight operations if recaptured and all those Toyota jihadists strike so deep ? Oh dear , if they learn how to swim or at least paddle they will even beat us to Washington D.C. Oh , dear , oh dear ... Definite proof of Western complicity that those US delivered Toyotas lack paddles ...

did ı just invent a new Military tactic right here ? Toyota paddling ? To cross the oceans , too ?

What is the deal with Democratic presidents and their, "that depends on what the definition of IS is"?

NPR in the "by the way" tone added today after describing US bombing in Syrian Oil refineries: there appear to be some civilian casualties. If only every Syrian death was reported like Israeli, or even Palestinian...

If only every Syrian death was reported like Israeli, or even Palestinian...

That's like reporting regular flu deaths at the expense of [insert name of animal] flu deaths!

If you read the Israel thread, any civilian death is a war crime, full stop.
If you read the Israel threads and have a brain it should be quite clear to you that the Geneva Conventions only regard civilian casualties as war crimes if the action that caused those casualties was unnecessary or disproportionate to the military gain form that action.

I just realized that proposed new name for IS -- Unislamic State should be properly abbreviated US. While State of Israel abbreviates SI. Too many Ss in the names -- abolish state!

There is a big gap between fighting near Baghdad and having the manpower to actually take it. Unlike the cities they have conquered Baghdad has a rather large Shiite population and they will fight tooth and nail for every block even if the Iraqi army rolls over yet again.

They could strategically defeat the Iraqi government but never be able to control the Shiite territory long term. It's still a huge problem to have a major section of the Near East in a constant state of civil war but no one knows how to solve it.

If governments would stop propping up the rebels it seems like Assad would eventually finish that battlefront off. I am not sure what the solution in iraq is though, even with strong american support the Iraqi military was a laughable farce that runs as soon as its confronted. I am not sure how such an outfit will ever maintain the peace in such a sectarian nation.

The fighter bombers screamed into action as Islamic State killers tried to overrun Kurdish troops in North West Iraq.

The 1,674 mph GR4 jets were on an emergency mission to rescue Peshmerga soldiers under attack by heavily-armed IS forces.

After taking off from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus the deadly Tornados flew into action against IS forces which the Home Secretary said could nuke the UK if they are not tackled During their “armed reconnaissance mission” they were deployed to provide air-support to Peshmerga forces under attack from IS.

Is Mirror a credible UK news outlet? Did someone really say that IS can nuke Britain?
