This is the way that species defend themselves. A clear and stark warning. Followed by clear consequences if the warning is not heeded.

This is ordained by the creator. If it were not His will then He would have created other behavior.

And if you don't believe in God, you must admit it is the way of nature.

Therefore, it follows that a leader of men or nations should ensure the safety and security of his charge by exhibiting the same behavior. Displays of power and declarations of intent.

This behavior is a clear deterrent to aggression.

Some say, that is silly primitive behavior. Is it now? Must we not communicate in terms that aggressors will understand? In the jungle you must speak the language of apes.

If you do it not, and appear weak, you invite attack. And you will be attacked. And run over if you are perceived as being unwilling to fight back.

This is why a country needs a commander in chief that will be strong at all times, especially when citizen's lives have been taken and never weak or go out of his way to be inoffensive to those who would oppose us.

God and nature is offended by such a weak stance, and it shall NEVER be said that the people prefer shame to pride.

My only caveat is that I hope that all international relations will 'grow up' in the near future so that threat displays aren't so necessary anymore.

Well, the belligerence of GW Bush, being copied by Mittens Romney, is certainly not something that would in any way deter attacks against the US. People who aren't morons recognize it for the cowardice of chickenhawks that it is. That hollow belligerence invites attacks. That "I'll spend whatever it takes" and "extremism is no vice" crap just makes the rest of the world have no respect for us and refuse to take us seriously. It also weakens us directly by making our allies less willing to help us.
