Judge William Adams Caught Beating Daughter on Video

As a purely emotional reaction on my part, statue of limitations shouldn't exist for child abuse.

I'm surprised so many people aren't commenting on the daughter's cerebral palsy.

Remember, this guy deliberated on cases of child abuse...

The only reasons I think she can be criticized is waiting so long and apparently not publicizing it because she was receiving financial compensation from her father. It is just unfortunate the statute of limitations has run out. At least he will hopefully be disbarred.

Perhaps that was the father's hush money of sorts?

Plus, I really find it difficult to criticize her waiting. She had to know that once she released this, she could never go back to him. I would imagine that the prospect of her leaving, struggling (possibly due to her condition, i don't know) and have to ask for help from this man would be terrifying. At least if she hid it, she could pretend that things were okay until she left.

That is why I would not classify it as blackmail. After all, he was essentially buying her forgiveness as many abusive men frequently do with women and others.

I am not trying to justify his actions in the video at all, but if the father's claim is true, then she's no angel here at this point in time. Threatening to release only for the sole purpose of retaining money and a Mercedes? THat's pretty much blackmail, right?

If it's true. For some reason I have a feeling it's not.

Well now, two wrongs don't make a right. Should she be charged with attempted blackmail?
It is legal to make a decision on whether to release the video and legal to ask for a Mercedes, but you want it to be illegal to combine the decision of whether to release with with the request for the Mercedes? Why should two rights make a wrong?

It was negotiation. She had a right to release the video, he had a way to obtain confidentiality.

In the same line of reasoning many have said they were smacked as child and they have become most excellent people: This girl was disciplined by smacking, and now she's blackmailing her parents. So, using the same criteria I conclude that kids getting smacked turn out to be spoiled and blackmailing brats.

I've just never understood the "too old for corporal punishment" line - if corporal punishment is considered over-the-line for an older child or an adult, what makes it acceptable to inflict on a young child?
You can generally reason with an adult. You can´t with a 3-year old. How would you discipline a kid of that age who has decided to find out "what happens if I continue to willfully disobey my parents?".

I have two children. The older one is 3. Depending on the situation there are usually many possibilities. For example, last week she was unwilling to share the swing with other children and had a temper tamprum. After a single warning we left the playground with her, ignoring her loud protest.

If she makes trouble in the evening the threat not to read her a bedtime story usually suffices. We had to follow through on it just twice.

It's not that hard. Children have toys and priviliges they care about it. Parents usually know exactly what these are.

Wait till your kids a little bit older. They are going to figure out your system and find loopholes ;) And that's when you smack on them on the arse and say "NO! STOP BEING SO SMART"

The same way I would discipline a girlfriend or secretary that decided to find out what happens if they continued to willfully disobey me.

I have one kid, who is also 3. Usually what you describe works. Not always though. Once he decided tearing off wallpaper was greater fun than just about anything else. :crazyeye:

You can sack/dump your kids in US?
