Jumpmasters 1B: Power is Knowledge (Vanilla, GOTM mod - Emperor - No research)

*sigh*

Forget it guys, I need a skip. My "Monday" is going to last all week, I'm not sure when I'll get time to play.

Sorry I couldn't warn anyone in advance -- it just happened.

I can play tomorrow if you want to swap spots and give it another try.

Do we want to revolt to REP, IIFC we already have it?

Ok, let's try with swapping, Mondays can't last forever :)

- DJMGator13: ready to go
- Grunthex: swapped
- Mistfit
- AlanH
- Nikof
- Karasu

Regarding Republic, we have two 'yes' so far -any other comment?

If I understand correcty, the key to fighting in Republic is to capture cities quickly, limit units ending turn in opponents terrirtoy, not to lose any of your own cities and to do this quickly. Another key is if we can get them to declare on us.

Since our game is no research we have the flexibility of using our luxury slider to a greater extent than in normal games.

I think going with republic is fine.

Yes, that's the way I see it too; capturing cities quickly and not loosing any of ours is something that we were going to do anyway ;)
A little extra care in order not to end turns in enemy territory is certainly due, but I guess it's not a big deal for us.

Gator's point of trying to get them to declare on us is also one to remember.

And with the large amount of GL that we are going to get, a few happiness wonders will be ours too.

I must say that playing with no research is indeed a great learning experience.

Does it make a difference that we have been at war for 20+ turns? Do we need to stop the wars, then switch, and then go for small wars after that?

We've already terminated the Han war, I think. We could make peace with Korea, but as they are a little way distant right now I don't think our WW with respect to them will deteriorate futher, and a quick war with Baekje will probably not cause us problems. If we do find that WW is painful when we declare on Baekje we can quickly make peace with Korea to cancel it.

I agree on Republic. You can war all you like if you keep them short, and with the new improved unit-support Republic, why not? We'll have boatloads of money, and the ability to use it.

Thanks on the swap vs. the skip ... I still not sure what tonight looks like, but I'll either be able to play, or request a real skip right away this time.

IIRC we are at peace with Korea, I signed the deal for Republic (I mean, I *should* RC that, as it was my turnset... but life is short and my memory is even shorter :D ).

So we have are at peace with the world right now... Since this is clearly not the Mongol way, I propose that we put remedy to this situation as soon as possible ;)

EDIT: More than halfway thru my round. Should have post in about an hour or so.

Sounds like we are agreed on Republic.

I'll play this afternoon and post later.

Goal:
1) Revolt to REP
2) Continue the Mongol path to World Domination

preturn 250AD
Review of F3 - we are strong against all known civs
Review of F11 - we are #1 in pop, GNP & prod & land area - also the top 5 cities all belong to unknown civs

The OTTOs (red border) are available for contact from the diplomacy screen. (I use shift-right click to replace Han w/ OTTO on F4 screen)
OTTO: 7 cities, 0 gold, down 4 techs

mm some cities for happiness - 2 cities were about to riot
changed Nalayh to settler

Since we have a good size invasion force in place and have no "critical" builds ongoing, I intiate our revolt to REP & draw 7 turn anarchy.
Cycle thru cities adding clowns & revenuers for anarchy period

IBT - OTTO demand we leave his territory

Turn1 - 260AD
Try to entice BAE into war - demand 50 of their 60 gold they give it. I get greedy and ask for a tech, they refuse change from annoyed to furious.
Our exploration galley spies (pink border)
Position troops outside of BAE territory

IBT - na

Turn2 - 270AD
One last look at the BAE before DoW - 7 cities, 19 gold, up MONA, MONO & FEUD - tru to extort Feud no go - issue DoW
lose 4 swords & 4 gospodar attacking 2 Bushi - pressed attack because 2nd Bushi promo'd & created a GLeader - finally killed the bushi & Gleader
Capture Namp'o (only defended by 1 footman) - set to barracks

IBT - BAE counter attack with a samuri looking unit who dies (found out later it was a Kensai a 4/2/1 unit) / ARB complete the Great Library (don't even know where they are) / FRA completes the Hanging Gardens / RAJA learn MONO

Turn3 - 280AD
I found the FRA: 13 cities, 67gold, up MONA, MONO & FEUD
Forgot that you can not establish embassies while in Anarchy - RAJA are being attacked by 2 civs, I was hoping to align with them and see if we can get MONO cheaper. Plan 2 - RAJA are only up MONO, so I buy FEUD from FRA for 769gold and trade RAJA FEUD & 324gold for MONO. So we get both for about 1100 gold. Now we are only down Monarchy which we do not need.

Battle for Cheju
vSword vrs rFootman - we die inflciting 1hp of damage
vSword vrs rFootman - we die inflciting 1hp of damage
vGospodar vrs rBushi - we die no damage
eGospodar vrs rBushi - we die bushi promos to 2/4 vet
eGospodar vrs 2/3 rFootman - we win ( no promo)
vGospodar vrs 2/3 rFootman - we win no promo
eGospodar vrs 2/4 vBushi - we win no promo - capture a worker & Cheju (was a former KOR city did not autoraze because there were no BAE citizens)

Unload 2nd wave of Mongols next to Kunsan / lone gospodar pillages iron & gets back on galley
reposition and heal Namp'o assualt squad

IBT - FRA asks us to leave / KOR &neoCart sign MA vrs Arabs / KOR DoW on Arabs / BAE are building Sun Tzu (too bad they wont finish it) / BAE junk ttacks our galley carring the gospodar - we win / other civs also started Sun Tzu

Turn4 - 290AD
Battle for Kunsan
vSword vrs rFootman - we redline but win - no promo
vSword vrs rFootman - we die inflict 1hp of damage
eGospodar vrs 2/3 rFootman - we win (-3hp no promo)
eGospodar vrs rAcher - we win no promo & capture Kunsan

position & heal troops & pillage road isolating BAE capital

IBT - took out 2 Bushi in counterattacks & one of our Swords promos to elite / CHOS & KHWA learned Engineering

Turn5 - 300AD
settler founds New KK

Battle for Taejon
vGospodar vrs rFootman - we redline and retreat while redlining footman
vGospodar vrs rFootman - we die inflicting 1hp of damage
eGospodar vrs 2/3 rFootman - we win
only 1 unit left but no more fast units left - move sword and gospodar into position for next turn

IBT - 4 advancing BAE units retreat back towards Ch'onan

Turn6 - 310AD
abandoned Shantung / settler founds New TaTu (at RCP8)

Battle for Taejon (continued)
vGospodar vrs rFootman - we die but redline the foot
eGospodar vrs 1/3 rFootman - we win no promo & we capture Taejon with a harbor

Battle for Ch'onan
2 Cat shots - one miss one hit reducing a rFoot to 2/3
there is an archer in city
vGospodar vrs rFootman - we win (-1hp from archer no promo)
eGospodar vrs 2/3 rFootman - we win flawlessly (no promo)
eGospodar vrs rArcher - we win cpturing 4 workers and city

IBT - 4 BAE units move - no attacks

Turn7 - 320AD
FINALLY out of anarchy - we are now a Republic
cycle thru cities and mm & change a few builds

Cleanup the 4 wandering BAE units - 3 cat shots hit - attack w/ 3 elites all win easily and the 3rd produces a Gleader - 4th taken out by vGospodar who promos to elite

Battle for Kwangju
vGospodar vrs rFootman - we die but redline foot
vGospodar vrs rFootman - we win
vGospodar vrs rArcher - we win
city left with 1 redline foot

IBT - BAE junk takes out our injured galley

Turn8 - 330AD
Shanghai settler => granary
Bayanhongor settler => temple
Choybalsan Mbow => TurCav
Ondorhaan barracks => harbor
Batshireet Mbow => TurCav
Nalayh settler => worker
Should have changed the 2 Mbows to TurCav - review F1 and change all other bows

Transport Gleader back to homeland
eGospodar vrs rFootman - we win and capture Kwangju set to Temple

Decision time: CHOS & KHWA still want over 1100 gold for ENGIN - I can get it in peace deal with BAE for 100gold - Since BAE is down to one city and we can save 1000gold I make the peace deal.

IBT - na

Turn9 - 340AD
Canton Temple => barracks
Xinjian worker => wealth
Namp'o galley => temple
Har-Ayrag settler => temple
Abandon Xinjian - found New Kazan at RCP5 set to barracks
Found New Almarikh at RCP5 ( will abandoned Nalayh next turn) set to barracks
move Gleader towards Beijing
exploration galley spots Orange border near FRA

IBT - na

Turn10 - 350AD
KK settler => settler
Kazan settler => settler
Kunsan deposes back to BAE - we only had 1 unit there
Nalayh worker => wealth
found New Tabriz at RCP5 set to barracks
Abandon Nalayh
Contact ENG (orange): 8 cities, up MONA, down ENGIN

Notes to next player
1) Great Leader should reach Beijing next turn
2) Troubled by Kunsan flip - we have enough troops to retake it & Ch'ongju - I made peace solely for engineering - there is actually a big stack in BAE territiry after the flip
3) I found FRA, OTTO & ENG but there are still 5 unknown civs
4) We are only down Monarchy which we do not need

Again Good turns Gator (2 SG's = 2 GL's)

I got lucky.

I was wondering, can you get a great leader while in anarchy? I fought alot and got promos to elite but the GL came when we were in Republic.

Well played Gator :thumbsup: Sounds like a lot of fun.

! Everyone is stealing my job here :lol: ...wish it happened in RL too... ;)

Great turns Gator, I almost felt sorry for Baekje.

Finally good news on the Great Leader. We are taking speed now.
I am not sure we really need to stain our reputation with a new war declaration on Baekje right now, even though the temptation is strong after a flip.

We should rather start moving our armies towards another opponent. I can't look at the save right now, and our limited world map doesn't really help. Is there a nearby civ who is already at war with someone else?

Another couple of random thoughts.
- We are about to enter our GA. For a military kind of game this is about the right time, as it speeds up the research towards Military Tradition. Of course, we are not doing any research, so...
- The number of AI and the presence of several landmasses will make it not too easy to win the game with our UUs only; I was thinking of a short period to prepare our next war, settle a few more cities in the available lands and upgrade some units, but we should probably start a new war without waiting more than is strictly necessary.
- Catapults: they are slow, and we are going to use 3-movement units for some time. I *never* manage to remember their characteristics, but there should be at least one that we can use instead of cats. I would avoid using cats for a while. We may want to build a few in otherwise useless cities (together with settlers and workers), for an upgrade to cannons if the game does reach the end of the Middle Ages.

Regarding our roster: I thought that swapping Grunthex with Gator would give him a chance to play before Mistfit.
If Mistfit won't be able to get his turns until tomorrow anyway, can we squeeze 10 turns from Grunthex in between?

We won't need cats at all now. We may want to spend a few turns just building and consolidating with our second core until we get to where we can deploy our attacking UUs and go in strong. Korchin is a defender, really. We need Chivalry, and I suggest we don't even bother with MT and Cavalry. Let's focus on the techs we need to reach the rest of the world - Astronomy or Navigation - and finish this with our Bagatur Hordes. Domination is the logical conclusion to this game as it was in GOTM 25, as we can retire our Hordes and Ordu into settlers to fill the spaces we take.

Go ahead and grab it Mistfit -- I didn't even get to turn the computer ON last night. I know tonight is a ball game, and this weekend is a mess. I'll skip my entire spot this time.

True, although what happens if we refuse to move our troops. We still take the rep hit, correct?

Yes, at one point KOR & neoCart (brown border) were in a MA vrs ARB. Also, KOR & TOK were MA against RAJA (although TOK has made peace with RAJA).

I was thinking of a short period to prepare our next war, settle a few more cities in the available lands and upgrade some units, but we should probably start a new war without waiting more than is strictly necessary.

We could do some Elite training exercises & settle Barb Island.

One last thought about waiting 20 turns to redeclare on BAE.
