KA01 - A Simple Deity Space Race

@Tomoyo - I've been following the hat for the past couple of week. Only took me a day or two to figure out it was when the Soxs were playing. I'm a Braves fan from way back (ie, Dale Murphy era) so perhaps we might have a Brave/Sox matchup in the WS.

Ouch! Seeing Astronomy disappear hurts!
But good expansion into France. Hopefully we can reach 4-turn research in a short time.

I still have the impression that the tech pace has slowed down too much lately.
We should make sure that the Celts war lasts as little as possible, and begin trading and gifting techs and luxuries to help the other civs research something for us.

Regarding the Golden Age, if we research Navigation and delay a little the next war, we could trigger it with the Conquistador.
However, this may not be the best time -without our second core and too much in advance of the Industrial Ages.
If we want to have it later on, there is still the chance of a war with England -or even a fake war with the weakest civ on the other continent; but we should be wary of fighting too much...

First off let me say I've been up way to long to go through this and edit for spelling and grammer. It's prolly pretty sloppy but hey. Good news ahead

PreTurn:
#1 got Gentleman Jack...check
#2 Install the newest versio of MapStat...Check (Dianthus if you are lurking thanks a million
#3 Do a look see...Great job Gator Everything looks hunkydorry

I look at the tech tree. I believe Alan was thinking about Copernicus (helps science) but said Magellans (helps movement of ships) we have the needed tech to research that one but we need banking to get to Smith's (helps $) Look around for good sights for 2 prebuilds...I don't really see any good spots for a prebuild and our best cities are building important improvements in them right now so I plan to get us a GL!!! (bold statement #1)
I change Dijon from a barracks to a galley and rush it for 20 gold. It looks like the Kelts are one tile away from their iron so I think I'll get the galley over there with some troops to pilliage it if needed. Also Dijon is size 2 with 66.6% corruption so I doubt that they will be able to produce any meaningful amount of units by the time the warring is done.

I look at the Military advisors screen and we are paying 80gpt for unit cost but Sid is telling me we can support a larger military :hmm: He also says we are strong against the Kelts and average against the English. IMHO the 14 warriors need to go after the offensive is over.

Turn down science to 40% no loss in tech time but save a couple of bucks

In other News: it seems that Mahatma is at war with the Keltoi. I thought he was the peacefull type

Hit enter and start this party!

IBT:
2 Resistors down in Paris, as we dont seem to be starving the city I'll let 'em eat (for now)
Orleans Worker to Temple
Ciudad de la Soul Knight to Knight
Dijon Galley to worker
El Karasu Knight (how did that get built it tells me it will take 35 turns to make another) to as I don't plan to be at war for that long I change it over to Courthouse

Turn 1 (260AD)
Move troops towars the Keltic Front
Our 1 lonely Catapult in the Rouen district get disbanded into the city for 5 shields towards the temple. My thought s on this is that it will take 11 turns to get it to the current Keltic border and by then the front will be much further away. This does give us 5 shields and gives back 1gpt towards unit support
Move troops to my intended spaces
Turn down Science to 30 % Gun Powder Still in 1

IBT
The Green guys overseas raze the japanese city of Sapparo (sp?)
Learn GunPowder go to Banking

Wowzers I don't know if I've seen that before 4 Civs all learn banking on the same turn. India, Ottoman, England, and Aztec.
Most of them want 43gpt - 481 gold and WM. The Indians on the other hand accept: 130 gold, Inscense and an Alliance against the Keltoi...how convenient :D (our helpfull advisor tells us that the "Ghandhi betrayed our friends the French  Very helpful that one is)
And we start on Astronomy at 50% we are at + 8gold and 13 turns

Hand Down Report:
Well the palace has been moved. The war on the Keltio has been pretty smooth (up until Mohacs)
I did not do any MM'ing on my last turn it's 4:30 AM here (sorry)
Overall a good set
Everyone has Music theory now Might check to sell for $
0% WW as far as I could tell
I didn't think of it but we should pull our warriors out of our core and sent them to our new cities to help against flipping and resisting.
Sorry about the prebuild I just couldn't see a great city to put it in. I pulled the palace prebuild off of Barcelona to build it in Entremont.
We have 12 more turns of being at war. Remember not to kill off the Kelts completly as it will give us a rep hit. Actually If it comes to it we should protect him if he's down to his last city.

BTW thanks for the set-up Gator :goodjob:

I have set this page to auto-refresh every 5 milliseconds... ;)

BTW... Ehm... how do you think that my new Avatar would look if you made it a bit brighter? :D

Mistfit get some sleep after all that killing, but please upload the correct save (350AD not 250AD).

This is what happens when you play while  instead of  but at least you weren't doing any :vomit: which requires a lot of :coffee: in the morning so that you can do more

Great stuff, Mistfit. Leave it to the Silver Winger, indeed! So do we promote you to golden and break the spell?

I believe Alan was thinking about Copernicus (helps science) but said Magellans (helps movement of ships)
Nope! I was discussing Golden Age triggers. Magellans would trigger our commercial trait and the Pyramids have already triggered our religious one. The problem of using a Conquistador is they they are a pretty useless UU for fighting, and as Karasu says we want to limit warfare.

An interesting difference of approach. I tend to starve captured cities until there's only one foreigner in them, regardless of whether we are at peace with their old nation, or if it's dead. Foreigners cause trouble, get war weary faster, and make flips more likely. So Paris would have starved down to one citizen under my regime before growing up again. Since we have the Pyramids now, regrowth with new Spanish blood would be fast. Not that I'm xenophobic as a general rule, you understand :D

Once I kill off the Civ I usually stop starving the captured cities. I have rarely had a city flip to a third party civ. I may still use up the citizens by creating workers or settlers, but that it not a must do.

Great turns! Palace jump complete. Now to set up our new core...

Save looks good, I think we can fire the 1 scientist in Tours, currently not shaving off any turn on research. In 4 with or without him, might as well get the extra gold.

Good luck Tomoyo - just don't play during the Sox game. We want your full attention

The flip probability goes down when you've killed the civ, but actually that's only because the nearest foreign capital is then further way. The flip probability doesn't take account of the actual nationality of th foreigners, only how many of them there are. But my main concern is actually about the way cities with foreign pops seem to get upset by war weariness much faster than native cities, even though the new war is not with their old civ.

Pre-Flight: Switch the specialists in Entremont to scientists (taxmen don't work on a starving city) Other than that, it looks good. :goodjob:

What a nice splash of blue! :goodjob:

Did the Redsox do as good a job? And do they understand Latin any better than I do? :hmm:

It looks like Karasu is up next, and as he usually gives CivFanatics a miss at weekends, that gives us a peaceful couple of days to reflect on what we might do next and who we do it to :D

I think we should abandon Eboracum as it's at distance 4 from our new palace and relegating the corruption rank of every city we have except those within radius 4 of Barcelona. It looks as if the Zulus have taken a couple of Keltoi cities that would have rounded out our second core, and there are some English cities that would also be handy.

BTW I didn't understand your comment about taxmen being wasted in starving cities. They work fine when I use them :hmm:

Did the Redsox do as good a job? And do they understand Latin any better than I do?
The Red Sox played while I did, actually, and they won.

I put the Latin in there to see if you were reading the logs... ;) You should be able to understand most of it (and the only important word that might cause you trouble is capitur, which means "is captured by").
BTW I didn't understand your comment about taxmen being wasted in starving cities. They work fine when I use them
Food is calculated before gold, but science is calculated after... (something I heard), so when a city starves, the governor reassigns the citizens.

Got that, but wasn't sure about "Nauticum magnum erecte"?

Food is calculated before gold, but science is calculated after... (something I heard), so when a city starves, the governor reassigns the citizens.
Thanks. I must check that sometime. I just need to try hitting next turn with the specialists assigned each way and see whether there's any difference in the treasury change. In any case, if we are running at maximum science it would be more sensible to put the specialists on science. It should get us there faster, or leave us with more spare cash when we turn the slider down for the last turn.

I meant "Build a big [space]ship", but the Romans didn't have that technology. ;)
