KA01 - A Simple Deity Space Race

I think that starting to build libraries is the way to go. We also need marketplaces in our core cities (after or before libraries?), and we should try to alternate these builds with some military in the next turns.

Right or wrong I always prefer the Markets first and then the Lib's. I try to insure that the growing population is happy and making money before we start expanding our knowledge base. We don't seem to be having a problem right now keeping up with the research rate of the AI. Alternating the builds seems like a good idea. Fastest growers get markets first.

I don't think anything will prevent our bloodlusty team from eating the English too, but we should probably wait for the end of the MA to do that if we want to trigger our Golden Age at that time.
Agreed 100%

Markets are already in place in some of our core cities, so I'm not sure we have to make it in many places. Markets are only of value for happiness in big cities when the lux count increases above its current level of three. Before that they cost 1gpt to maintain, and they only increase the effect of the luxuries by one, which saves 1gpt in lux tax.

We are soon to have dyes available, and wines will come when we take over Keltoi's lands. Then markets will provide a return in happy people and reduced lux tax in big core cities. But, if you have the science slider set to significantly over 50% then build libraries first - they increase science by 50%. If science is 50% or less then markets are more cost effective as they increase non-science commerce by 50%. Since we are presumably going to be running science flat out from now on I think we should probably build libraries first then markets in any core cities where the decision is still open, unless it's getting big and needs urgent happy pills.

Gator - Up again :eek:

The FRA war started on my turn now it looks like the KELT war will do the same.

Hey Mistfit this is starting to remind me of SGOTM3 where it seemed like I started all the wars. :lol: Hopefully there will be no :cry: in this one.

I have no more room in my Avatar for more spoons. Remember it was you that started us getting Great Leader's as well. I expect nothing short of 2 or three from you during this game :D

Turn 134 - 130AD
Pamplona barracks => knight
Casa del Nikofa courthouse => barracks

Battle for Tours
2 cat shots miss
vKnight takes damage from a cat, then dies vrs rPike only inflicting 1hp of damage

4/5 eKnight vrs 2/3 rPike - we win down 1hp - no promo & capture Tours with a worker and cat & barracks - set to temple

Battle for Paris
vKnight vrs rPike - we win down 1hp - promos to elite
vKnight vrs rPike - we die inflicting 1hp of damage

vKnight vrs 2/5 ePike - we WIN down 1hp no promo
eKnight vrs 1/3 rSpear - we win flawlessly no promo & capture Paris with 2 workers and a barracks - set to temple

Chartes is only defended by spears - move troops towards it

The Fool on the Hill is a single OTTO warrior in the middle of FRA lands

KA01_05.jpg

Turn 135 - 150AD
Seville knight => knight
Aldea de Ribannah knight => knight
Avignon culturally expands and grabs the dyes - able to put 2 citizens back to work and 2 other clowns become taxmen

Battle for Chartes
vKnight vrs rSpear - we win down 1hp - no promo
eKnight vrs rSpear - we win flawlessly - no promo
strange there is a redline archer there that did not shoot at us - oops been playing too much GOTMs archer does not have bombardment in this game
3/5 eKnight vrs 1/4 vArcher - we win no additional damage taken - no promo & capture Chartes

IBT - FRA asks for peace but will not give up ASTRONOMY - they will give us 1 of 2 cities that is about to be ours anyway - so I say no for now

Turn 136 - 170AD
move troops towards Orleans for two reasons: 1) our flip chance for Paris is above 5% & 2) their wines will be quicker to hook up than the KELT's wine

IBT - OTTO moving knights towards Orleans / OTTOs build Sistine

Turn 137 - 190AD
Madrid knight => knight
Tomoyoton knight => library
Dajormagator knight => library
WW holding steady

Battle for Orleans
vKnight vrs ePike - we win down 2 hp - promos to elite
vKnight vrs vPike - we win down 1 hp - no promo
eKnight vrs vPike - we redline but win - no promo
vKnight vrs rPike - we win down 1 hp - no promo & capture Orleans with barracks - set to temple
(Otto had 3 knights outside of Orleans)

FRA still will not give up Astronomy & with Otto bearing down on them I decide to push for their last 2 cities

IBT - FRA LB attacks the OTTO fool / OTTO move 2 knights towards Rheims & attacks Rouen with a knight

Turn 138 - 210AD
Murcia knight => library

Battle for Rheims
3/4 vKnight takes a cat shot then retreats inflicting no damage on a rPike
3/4 vKnight vrs rPike - we win - no additional damage promos to elite
eKnight vrs rPike - we win no promo & capture Rheims with a cat, barracks & harbor - set to temple

FRA till refues to give up ASTRONOMY so no peace / Otto only have a single 2/4 knight next to Rouen

IBT - OTTO & FRA sign peace treaty / KELT & FRA sign peace treaty / IND completes Leo's Workshop

Turn 9 - 230AD
Barcelona knight => library
apparently FRA paid gold for peace
Last chance for FRA but they still refuse to give us Astronomy

All of my knights near Rouen have 3 hps (4 elites and 2 vets) - so I lead off with the elites
That was quick there was only 1 rPike there and we won - no promo

Cycle thru cities after the war - lux down to 10% sci stays at 50% Gunpowder in 3 at +29 gpt

IBT - OTTO troops head home, same for ENG troops / JPN & AZT are battling (haven’t seen AMR do anything in awhile over there so they must be at peace)

Turn 10 - 250AD
Casa del Nikofa barracks => library
add 2 sections to our Palace
hurry worker in Orleans to hook up the Wines
Orleans has our largest flip chance at 1.461% now that FRA is gone
We are at tech parity with everyone except the KELT who are down Education - no one got Astronomy from the FRA

Notes to next player
1) I have a bunch of knights healing in the former FRA lands, once healed they can start moving towards KELT/ENG - leave some of the Vets down there but move all the elites
2) I've positioned 4 of our 5 cats in Dajormagator along with some knights to start the KELT assault, there are also 6 knights in Vitoria
3) We need to hook up the wines outside of Orleans - I rushed a worker there and have more moving towards that area

250AD Save

Great turns... but,

a) Eliminating FRA removed Astronomy from the world, it seems. I though we were trying for the fastest launch?
b) Nothing. I was going to say something, but I forgot.

True but it was either we eliminate them or Otto would have. Otto did not make peace until there was 1 city left and they only had a single troop near it. I was hoping Otto got the tech in their peace deal but no dice. FRA had a monopoly on Astronomy and wasn't trading it for anything, I even offered cash & peace.

EDIT: And I was concerned about the flip chances back to France.

You're right. With 20:20 hindsight, I think I missed an opportunity during my opening trade round. If I'd left one of the new world civs with enough contacts to trade for Astronomy France might have traded it and we might have got it out into circulation.

Surgical elimination of France there, Gator. Well done. So France retrieved Chartres from Ottomans for us? That was neat.

Have fun with the Kelts, you may want to wait a turn or two to bring up the knights from former FRA lands. You can start without them just make sure they are close enought to act as reinforcement.

Keep ENG happy at first they have horses and iron. I've seen a few ENG knights and Frankish Axemen (same as our MDS).

@AlanH - Chartes may have flipped back to France, it was only defended by spears and not pikes. I wasn't really paying attention to it until I took Lyons and Paris. (BTW I haven't forgotten my Xteam turns - should post those tonight).

Go, Mistfit! :thumbsup: The eyes of all Spain, and especially of Mistfitzia, are on you.

One last question Banking Astronomy or Chemistry? I like Banking or Astro but if someone has a strong opinion let me know.

Edit: I just noticed that everyone in this SG (with the exception of Alan) is wearing one of my Avatars now. Check out Karasu's updated version of MC Escher's "Hands". Only 2 of them are orginal works (mine and nickof's) the others are either add on's or clean-up jobs. Ouch!! Sorry just pulled my arm out of socket patting my self on the back :D This may become a SG varient for me. The only problem is I don't think I can improve on Alan's :( (what I actually mean to say is that there is no help for Alan :lol: )

You're welcome to try to improve on mine as well to make it a full house. I claim no originality, in fact Apple would probably sue me if (a) they ever saw it and (b) I had anything worth suing me for.

It's my impression teh AI favours the top half - more wonders, which is the actual reason I chose Gunpowder. Honest, it wasn't just because I'm a bloodthirsty cavalry fan. But I'm happy to play any tech gambit. It'll be interesting to see if the AI contributes anything useful from here on whatever we choose.

WRT the usefulness of techs, in this game we're likely to become quite peace-loving for quite a while, so cavalry are probably irrelevant unless we want to reduce the Ottoman threat a little before he gets Sipahi? Other than that we should pursue the ones that'll give us most tech boost. So ToG should be a target with a prebuild for Newton's. And we ought to check where our golden age might come from. Our UU will be quite difficult to use for it if we don't go back to war for a while, so wonders are an option. Commercial/Religious - we have the Pyramids, so we could go for Magellan or Smith's to trigger a late Middle Age Golden Age? Both require optional techs, and we *can* rely on the AI to research those :rolleyes: so p'raps we ensure we research teh mandatory pre-requisites to one or both of them, start a prebuild, gift the AI to get them to start Navigation or Economics, and try for either.

No strong opinion. but I have a preference for Banking, because the AIs seem to research Astronomy more.
