KA01 - A Simple Deity Space Race

Well, Gator said he would be able to check every day -but that it may take a few more days before he can play again.

So, I would wait for this evening (US time) in case he can get it, otherwise it will be Tomoyo's turn.

Regarding wars: that's a point we need to discuss. I think we all agree that we need some more room, and the Celts are kindly providing that. England (or France) may be a good target (as usual... :p ), to be confirmed at a later stage.

But as soon as we have two well developed core, I am not sure that we have to keep on expanding: our main (and dare I say 'only') goal is a fast launch, and a high score would only come as a bonus.
In this sense, we should certainly try to be able to support four-turns research as quickly as possible.
But for a faster tech pace, I would also look for as many strong AIs as possible to trade with -or not?
This is also the reason why I would not completely exterminate any civ, especially the scientific ones.

We may only need to keep one scientific civ around as a pet.

In vanilla 1.29 all scientfic civs (almost) always get the same freebie - Monotheism at Medieval, Nationalism at Industrial and, ISTR, Rocketry at Modern - so two or more won't help us here. They do also get cheap Libraries and Universities, but I'm not sure they'll use them very effectively once we hit 4 turn rate, particularly if we cut them down in size. They tend to go off and research optional techs that are pretty useless by and large.

True. My reasoning is that if we have two scientific civs, their free tech will be cheaper to buy -even though admittedly this may not make a big difference.

According to Gator the only Scientific Civ out there is the Ottoman Empire. So we should be able to wipe every one else out right :D

That figures. Cracker used to ensure there was only one scientific civ to level the playing field for PtW and Civ3 vanilla. He even changed civ traits to ensure this in a couple of games.

So much for my talking without checking things first Of course, my prior post was clearly a general comment... :D

@Mistfit, I would still advocate against the Mongol approach to research and diplomacy, though... :p

I'm just throwing out ideas. I have never played on Deity before so I doubt that we could play the Mongol style anyway. I'll be very interested in seeing how many units the opponents can churn out, and how many you guys think is enough to take in on our side. The decision can wait IMHO until after the Keltoi offensive.

Hey guys, I'm without internet connection after the storm. I had it for a little while Monday and then it went out. Don't know how long it will be off. Other than that I doing OK. I'm hoping it comes back soon. I'm posting this from a friends house.

The Ottos could also research something that was out the way of our beelines (like if we beeline for Motorized Transportation and leave Flight for them to research), so they could maybe help, if we gifted them the useless optional techs that they would otherwise research.

Thanks for the update, Gator. Hopefully everything will be fine soon :)

Time for a roster update:

Tomoyo - UP
Karasu - next in line
Nikof - wandering around the world
AlanH
Gator - temporarily disconnected
Mistfit

I'll be back later for some strategizing.

It looks like my internet connection is back again. [dance] Hopefully it will stay that way.

Leave me in the lineup after AlanH, that will give me a chance to catch up.

Wow! Well done Tomoyo - galley captain extraordinaire :goodjob:

Can we have a save to look at, please?

What a pretty map! Nice job, Tomoyo. I love my Casa, being next to mountains & ocean makes me feel right at home.

Glad you're okay, Gator.

Actually the purple is Iroquois. India is on our continent, with silver/gray.
