Kal-el's Unit Concept Sketches

Here's one I did while I was out on the boat.

Hey Kal-El. I was referred to this thread by Sword_Of_Geddon (sorta ;)) and this is a truly great collection of concept work (if you don't already have your own site with this stuff you should make one, or at least put it on deviantart.com).

I hope you don't mind if I use some of these when making units (for [civ4]). :)

Speaking of which, there are tons of great unit creators here on the [civ3] forums, with plenty of 3d modeling and texturing skills (as I understand, while they end up as sprites most of civ3 units are created in 3d software). So why the heck are you not helping us in civ4 forums?! We sure could use few more experienced 3d modellers, scratch that, we could use some experienced 3d modellers, period. :D

Judging by your unit thread, you don't need any help! You've got some really impressive work going on there.

I didn't know it was already possible to make completely new Civ IV models (as opposed to just reskinning existing units). Still, as I understand it, this is quite different from making a Civ III unit, where, if you do it with Poser or suchlike, you can just use existing figures and props. All you're doing is making still images to turn into a set of flic files. But with Civ IV it seems you need to be able to create your own models. That's a different sort of skill entirely!

Suddenly I have a hanker'n for Rabbit Stew.

Believe it or not, some of us think that CivIII is the better game ;)

Well I don't believe that, so there! :D

@Plotinus: Good point. Still, we have people who are learning max from scratch so they can make units, going from something like poser to max should be trivial by comparison. :)

Go ahead, we'll see who ends up being a stew.

@Stormrage: Civ3 indeed rocks, I never said it didn't did I.

It's just that Civ4 rocks so much harder! :banana:

Rabbit White, what I am waiting for is for there to be a better tutorial for animating units for Civ4. I read through the one that's out, and it seems a little tough to chew through. Although I may be just thick or too lazy to go through it carefully. I will eventually go to Civ4, but not anytime soon. I am also not thrilled with keeping poly count low on models. It makes for some blocky units.

Also, Civ4 combat has to be improved alot by the mod community before I get more enthusiasm to make units for Civ4.

Personally I took CIV4 back to the store(used) for credit...I dont like how it looks, or most of the new additions...

if CIV4 doesnt have enough modders, you should recruit more elsewhere, we need our CIV3 modders here...

And Rabbit...your siggy is WAY to big...
