King Juan Carlos of Spain abdicating

Allegedly they bring in tourist money. It is absolutely unclear how this balances with their costly privileges. If I had to guess I'd say they cost more than they bring in.

It makes the palace look like a zoo, the nobles endangered animals. No offense, just a metaphor.

I half-suspect that's deliberate. If we treat the most public noble clan as zoo exhibits, we'll forget that the nobility as a whole continue to be an obscenely wealthy and influential strata of British society.

There most certainly is some measure of intend involved. Celebrities rarely expose themselves just because of getting a kick out of it. The most recent royal baby wasn't exhibited to the zoo audience because its parents were so eager to share their private matters with the world. What kind of person would you have to be to want that?
Celebrities expose themselves because the publicity most of all indirectly benefits them. Advances their career, open doors. Some celebrities even sorta made a career out of being a celebrity.
Like - I think - Kim Kardashian (I think because I know even less about non-German celebrities than about German celebrities).
Or the royal family.

I wouldn't mind if they were treated like zoo exhibits.

What I can't stomach is the fawning adoration displayed by a sizeable chunk of the public. And even the global public!

I could spit, if only I could be sure I wouldn't just dribble down my front again.
