preferrably based on one of the first two pictures, I like that headdress and think it would be pretty distinct :)

I will refresh some of the requests I made back in the fall in case anyone is interested. And I hope they are. A quick run through the last couple of hundred leaderheads that have been created and posted as downloads shows an astonishing result: only 7 of 230 represent leaders of sub-Saharan African origin. (And that's including the mythic T'Challa by cfkane) Ouch.

Thanks to Ekmek who did a very nice Amina.

African Leaderheads
I had propsed several sub-saharan African leaderheads including the following:

Amina the leader of the Hausa state of Zazzua (Zaria)
:)done:)

Nzinga of Ndongo and Matamba looked like this according to a contemporary sketch.
Catherine for a base?
Perhaps with Darius' crown
Justinian's cloak:

Amanirenas, Kandake of Meroe (Nubia/Kush) may have looked something like this (I think this is actually a different Kandake). Salamasina from CivGold, with darker skin b/c of Nubian ethnicity,
Ramesses' headdress (although its not quite the same)

Yaa Asantewaa of the Asante. Surely a force to be reckoned with.
Boudicca, as base
I can't make out from the photo if that's a military uniform or what
Zara Yaqob's outfit would probably come close:

Spoiler :

King Nzinga Nkuwu (João I) of Kongo:

Shaka (or the generic 'Ancestor' leaderhead) as base
Hammurabi's crown.

Thanks.

I would be happy with any additional leaders from the Empires of Ghana, Kanem, Bornu, Benin or Monomotapa; or the Kings of Kongo, Angola, or the Asante to use with early African civs.

The Capo fixed up a leaderhead that looked a lot like Nzinga Nkuwu. He's available in his Congo module.

I haven't seen The Capo's Congo module, but I'll see if I can track it down. Thanks.

Its part of "Module Pack II," if you check the database it should be in there. But the modules only work with my mod, so if you want to see it in game you'll have to download my mod OR you will have to take the files out and add the code to whatever you have handy. Since it is modular all of the art codes and stuff should be there.

And the reason you are probably not seeing too many Sub-Saharan African leaders is because there are only three sub-saharan African civs. And of those civs I've seen at least three LHs, which is pretty good considering there aren't ANY extra Mongolian LHs, there aren't ANY extra Khmer LHs (unless you count Pol Pot), there aren't really any new Indian LHs either (unless you count an Asoka reskin), there are NO new Sumerian or Babylonian LHs in the database either.

If you count the civs that only have ONE other LH there is a long litany too. So I don't know that it is that surprising. Most of the LHs that are made are usually done because they are for civs that appear in a lot of mods (like WWII mods for instance). For African civs I have made Nubia, Songhai, and Congo modules to go along with my mod. I also have (if you want to go specifically sub-saharan) three sub-saharan leaders added to my mod (Nelson Mandela, Sundiata Keita, and Haile Selassie if you count Ethiopia as sub-saharan). Civ Gold also has a lot of African leaders as well.

Don't forget Ekmek's Paul Kruger as well.:) And the Indian and Babylonian LHs- we do have Akbar and Nebuchadnezzar. And how can you not count Ethiopia as Sub-Saharan, at least geographically?
About the Mongolian LH- you are right! There are only reskins.

Oh I know there are several African leaders that have been created over the years, and some really excellent ones too (Amra's Sunni Ali and Ekmek's Idi Amin come to mind). It's just that the volume of output of leaderheads to use in connection with civilizations from the entire continent of Africa south of the Sahara is relatively limited. From the leaderheads downloads page my count is just a handful of actual black African leaderheads of the last 200 or so, plus Obama and L'Ouverture. I was hoping to encourage people who have the skills and talents to take on a few more projects in this area.

In my own mod I have added a few African civs (Ghana, Songhai, Kanem-Bornu, Kongo, Mutapa (Great Zimbabwe), Nigeria (Hausa States and Benin Empire)and South Africa) and I would like to add a few more, but I really don't want to keep using Shaka, Zara Yaqob, Mansa Musa and Salamasina from CivGold over and over (and over) again.

I know, everyone wants World War II leaders, and American Presidents (or failed (vice) presidential candidates) and ancient Greek or medieval European guys with cool helmets and they get the most attention; all I am suggesting is that it would be super to have a few more good quality leaderfaces from Africa. Don't get me wrong--I don't begrudge anyone their favourites and there are some excellent ancient Greeks out there. :)

And I know there's Paul Kruger but somehow I can't seem to envision him as Opoku Ware of the Asante or the King of Madagascar. :) For my South Africa I have Mandela and am using Dutchking's Rommel as the great S.A. Prime Minister Jan Smuts with a change of background.

I also agree that in general India, Central Asia and Southeast Asia are also under-represented. But I have a Mughal civ with a great Akbar (thanks to PW90, Amra and Ekmek), and a Chola civilization with a decent Rajendra Chola and I'm reusing other leaderheads for Srivijaya and Burma, so eventually I would like to see more Southeast Asians (and eventually a really good Timur) but for the moment, the most obvious need is for a few African rulers. Thanks.

Would this African leader be useful to you, Ravenking?

Hmm. Madman of a Leader, indeed.

No, I can't say I have much interest in Mr. Mugabe.

The leaders that would be most interesting for me in particular are ones generally before the European Scramble for Africa.

While Ethiopia may be, geographically sub-saharan. Culturally and historically they have more links to the middle-eastern Judeo-christian culture. So I don't necessarily consider them a sub-saharan civilization, certainly not nearly as much as any of the other African nations mentioned. You could even argue that, as independent during Europe's scramble for Africa, this is maintained as such (this might be mostly due to their Christian leadership, making it difficult for Christian Europeans to validate any type of conquest).

I guess my point is that the demand isn't there, most of the leaderheads I have made had either been requests or for modules I have made and if you take out the themed module packs (Europe and the Americas) this are the civs I have made/am making for my module packs;

- Three African civs; Songhai, Congo and Nubia

- One ancient European civ; Minoans

- Two medieval/modern European civs; Hungary, Teutonic Knights

- Two ancient levant/near eastern civs; Assyria, Phoenicia

- One modern middle-eastern civ; Iran

- Two caribbean civs; Puerto Rico and Haiti

- One native American civ; Apache

- Two southeast Asian civs; Siam and Vietnam

- Two pacific island/oceanic area civs; Austraila and Philippenes

Which I think is a pretty diverse mixture of civilizations myself. Among these civs I made six leaderheads and of those six one is African, one is Native American, one of Haitian, one is Puerto Rican, one is ancient near-eastern, and one is Southeast Asian. A lot of my LHs happen to be European simply because of the European module packs I made. I was also planning on doing a Zulu (Cetshwayo), Malinese/Songhai (Askia), and Ethiopian (Lalibela) LH as well, but that will come later. I am doing a few requests before those though.

I need 2 or 3 more leaderheads for mali.
1 or 2 more zulu leaders (other than mandela)
1 or 2 more eithopia leaders (other than haile selassie)
1 or 2 more korean leaders
1 or 2 more mongol leaders
1 or 2 more polynesian leaders.
1 or 2 more tamil leaders.

any help much appreaciated.

He looks like a real estate agent in that photo.

You're right, he really looks like he's trying to sell the house behind him!
Anyway, Cetshwayo is definitely a LH I'll be waiting for! But I don't think it is something urgent because Mutota does a great job impersonating as Cetshwayo. What I thought about is that maybe I should try to reskin him a little. If I'll succeed in doing something good with my limited artistic talents I'll let you know.

OK, I'm going to do better than just pillage your mod to get at a leaderhead: I'll take the plunge; upgrade to 3.17 and shift from my 'upgraded' Amra's Mod with Add-Ons to your Diplomacy Mod. I've checked out your thread and it sounds like an interesting project. What is most intriguing is that you've added JARM.

Two Caribbean civs?

You forgot Cuba!

Well, the version that is currently available is the first modding I ever tried. So it isn't as good/deep as Amra's. That said I am working on a second version that I am hoping will be considered a really good mod. But my mod with all of the modules is pretty decent.

And it gives lots of good ideas. Like using Idriss as Harun al-Rashid and van der Donck as Maurits of Nassau. I'll definitely do that too!

I am working on a mod based on Geroge R. R. Martin's best seller series "A Song of Ice and Fire". I am hoping to find a LH artist who can create the book's main characters. If you have never read the book (you should) I can provice other artist renditions and descriptions to work from.

The characters I am looking for include:
Rob Stark, Jon Snow
Lysa Arryn, Tywin Lannister
Stannis Baratheon, Rently Baratheon
Baron Greyjoy, Mace Tyrell
Darion Martell, Beric Dandoneron,
Mance Rayder, The Others

I only have dial-up internet so I don't get to visit the forum as much as I would like - so please e-mail me @ arsnick@aol.com

What about a modern Scandinavian leader?
