Legalising ******** terrorism

CG, this is NOT a joke.

Sure it is. It's completely ridiculous, and everyone seems to know it. Just because influential players are taking it seriously doesn't make it any less of a joke. The No Child Left Behind act is a joke. Alberto Gonzales is a joke. They're way out of hand. But they're jokes.

(Put your gun down. I'm saying I don't support this law.)

A very stupid law, does anybody really think that there aren't women out there who would take advantage of something like that?

Some choice bits, directly from the text of the law itself:

3. Verbal and emotional violence:
For example-
(i) Insults
(ii) Name-calling
(iii)Accusations on your character or conduct (I'm speechless at these two)

4. Economic Violence:
For example-
(i) Not providing you money for maintaining you or your children (Uhh... I thought she was living with the man?)
(ix) Stopping you from accessing of using any part of the house (Men, say goodbye to your rights to privacy.)
(xi) Not paying rent if you're staying in a rented accommodation

This law has been on the books since 1983. Am I to assume, based on the alarmist rhetoric in the article, that the entire male population of India is incarcerated by now?

The new one came into force on the 26th of August, 2006.

Under the old law, only 2% of cases resulted in convictions - whereas 44% were fakes. We don't know about the rest of them.

Considering the amount of spousal abuse in India, it's necessary, and the men of India deserve all that they get.

What really sucks is that about half the country won't even be able to figure out this law on their own, because half the country can't read.

Well, maybe if the men let the women out of the house, they could learn.

Funny how your avowed liberalism flies out the window when faced with certain issues.
Women's rights is quite part of the liberal movement. India pales in comparison to western countries in this matter - and it's the fault of the true nature of Hinduism.

So your solution to the suffering of women is to enact laws that will make men suffer too?

You really think I'll fall for something so completely transparent?

1/10, Bill, just 1/10.

Hey, come back to me when you find another culture which endorses the burning of women.
