[Note: I guess this could have been put in the Stephen Fry topic, but I felt that since it was a different person, it warranted a different topic.]

This really catches my interest. When speaking to Bilbo, will Smaug talk about logic?

I don't the Nimoy has quite the voice for Smaug. Smaug always sounded to me like he would have a more 'upper class English' voice with an evil twist. Possibly a hint of Russian? Nimoy doesn't come across as manipulative as Smaug.

Cool, cool news. I can't wait to hear Smaug recommend Archery.

Odd. His role as Master Xehanort was supposed to be his very last!

He pulled the role off well though. Maybe he'll do good in this one?

Guess he's a case of a true performer; he can't actually retire. He has to come back eventually.

I was thinking Smaug would talk about animal husbandry by quoting the Old Testament.

But you know, he did sing about Bilbo once....

when this movie come out, I demand they put that video after the credits in!

I hope not. It would almost be enough for me to boycott the movie. :p

I hope he gets to say "beep... beep... beep.."

:( No Sean Connery?

I could see Christopher Lee doing a good job as the voice of Smaug, but he is getting old and he is already doing Saruman depending on what book rights PJ actualy has. (I don't think he has access to the Unfinished Tales which describe Sarumans fall. Without those rights Saruman becomes a cameo character.)

Good Lord, are you telling me they're putting Saruman in The Hobbit!?!

As for Nimoy, if you saw him in the 'Mirror, Mirror' episode of Star Trek, you
know he can do evil/menacing.

They wanted to - remember that the two films are meant to include material between the books, so don't stick to just the story of The Hobbit - but he doesn't want to fly anywhere any more, so I believe it proved impossible. Unless they let him film some scenes in England, I don't know.
