LH] Mussolini

I'm curious... this is something I've been waiting for (and pushing for) for quite a while now... I've never been satisfied with the earlier Mussolini LHs.

I finally got the hat to texture to something. unfortunately not sure how I did.

anyways here's another in game shot. And I attached the texture files and nif. For some reason though the back of the head isn't showing. Mourndraken or Roland do you have any idea?

bytheway, for everyone else follow this thread if you want to see it in game just place the attached files in your

My Games\Beyond the Sword\CustomAssets\art\leaderheads\Augustus_Caesar

folder. if you curstom assets folder doesn't have any of the otherones listed there just create them (i'm not sure it has a leaderhead or augustus folder)

this will not overright your regular augustus lh but the game will read thecustom assets first so your normal game will have this leaderhead there until you change it. Putting stuff in the custom assets folder is how I test leaderheads without going through the pain of creating a mod and having it load.

The silly fez hat still needs a lot of work, but I know that's pending, so I'll hold-off on comments on it.

My thoughts right now are on the uniform. I think he looks a little too "Gestapo-ish" for Mussolini (I think the "all-black" look is a little much). I'm thinking the best uniform to go with the silly fez would be one of his "more military-ish" uniforms... like one of these:

@wolfshanze

I included all the files so hopefully mourndraken will be able to skin.

@mourndraken
for the fez, the black color is from the little black box in the augustus_diff.tga. but I think the eagle needs work as well. you should see it there. if you want to enlarge it go ahead, but put in a separate tga so I can add it to the augustus tga file later.

I'll get this to work.

You should add a stencil propriety to the hat, so he will be two sided, so the interior won't be transparent

I found another way to do that. if you duplicate then flip the normals it makes it double sided no problem.

PS how do you assign a texture (dds or tga) in blender. I had a hell of a time last nite trying that.

...but you really didn't, did you?

Anyway, I think it looks great. The tweaking has really added a lot to it, but remember the law of diminishing returns.

Sorry if I'm not in the mood to accept things that are not up-to-standards (and I'm speaking of the fez eagle)... I was merely reminding a course of action (on something I knew wasn't done yet). If someone is going to go to the great lengths of doing a good Mussolini (and the body and face are vastly improved over past efforts) why on God's green earth would I accept the same ugly eagle from the same ugly Stalin hat from a previous model that is both of low quality and over-sized for it's resolution? If you want to sign-off on something that isn't even finished (the hat, which clearly is still in-work) and say that something that isn't even close to done is "fine with you", then that's your call... don't download the finished project when it looks even better.

I'm trying to be helpful... nobody even suggested going the fez hat route until I mentioned it... I'm just trying to contribute as best I can, with an eye for detail and some knowledge of use (like Benito favored the fez a lot more then the bus-driver cap).

I guess I needed to be more specific...

You guys need to redo the Eagle from scratch, that one you're using shouldn't make the final cut...

Try new source material... here's something that might help.

thats a great shot of the eagle. I was going to post something asking for a straighht on shot of theeagle, but i figured you had all the fez eagle shots there. I think we can take this eagle and if not use it directly we could fill it with the gloss from hammurabi or huyana's gold and make it glossy. I was trying to do that but didn't have a good eagle pick.

I'll let mourndraken have his take and depending on what he tries I'll have a go.

PS based on the comments, it sounds like the face is okay. am I right?

face looks great !
Right now, I'll take another run at setting tga correctly

I'm pretty happy with the face at this point... and the body as a whole... I have a couple of main concerns right now...

1) The fez hat shape and texturing (including of-course, the eagle).
2) The coloring/texturing of his uniform... I think we should step-away from solid black... maybe black shirt/tie with kaki/tan uniform (like on the Hitler/Mussolini round plate). I'm targetting the "quisessential" Mussolini look... that silly fez hat and the kaki/tan military uniform was what he was seen in public with about 80% of the time.

I think his overall build/face are pretty good at this point. Doesn't look like a skinny Augustus anymore... in fact, if I didn't know any better, I'd have NO IDEA where the base model came from, and that's a good thing.

The Eagle on the fez (as can be seen in pics) is gold on a black background... there's no red in the eagle or around it. There's some red piping on his hat (the "inverted-V" on the left side), but the eagle is a base gold on a black hat.

I think if you just take the eagle I provided... straighten out the tilt (it's slightly tilted) and hue the gold in it up a bit, you'll have a great eagle to stick on the hat... and it's higher res/size then the hat you're working on, so it will still look good when properly scaled... as opposed to taking a very small, lo-res bad image of the eagle as previously attempted.

If anybody needs any kind of pics/shots of anything concerning Mussolini, just ask... I'm pretty good at digging-up all kinds of stuff.

restoing the shirt/tie may be a pain to do. but doable. lets leave that until after the hat and uniform get textured right.

sweet. i'm dying to jump back on this. but i actually have homework to do and i want to see what you come up with texture wise.

Ekmek, I don't recall well for previous versions but in 2.45 you can join a tga (and only one) on the import of the nif by setting a texture path while still in import script window.

.43 does that too. but the problem s that roland made a custom texture that didnot have a tga assigned to it. going to image editor I somehow assigned it late last night but I really have no clue how i did since I was messing with so much stuff.

Yeah, but your way to do it create extra polys, not mine ;) Just add a Stencil propriety in nifskope and than choose Draw_both.

To assing a texture in Blender, look at my tut : http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=3939307 (step 13). It was made with an older version of Blender, but it's the same thing.
