LINES-World of Magic

Right. I am currently working on a presentation of Confucius, and I did find it amusing to see Azash quoting him in this thread. Coincidences!

Update 19- 700 BCE

To rise in violence, and to fall in violence. It is the fate of all those who venture to claim the earth for their own.
-Immortal High Priest of Atlantis

The Hawaiians have pulled out of Antarctica, except for two coastal cities, which they keep for trading reasons.

The Galapagos archipelago is developing into a trading hub.
(+1 trade center)

The Elgovians have withdrawn the majority of their army from the Mediterranean, much to the troops' relief.

Hyperborea has also pulled out of the Mediterranean, but in a much more spectacular fashion. After imploding their portal in Khemri and causing some nasty structural damage to buildings there, they literally teleported the entire fortress island of Rhodes out of the Mediterranean. Massive tsunamis and reality errors occured all over the Eastern Mediterranean and Black seas.

This was all planned. But apparently, the Hyperborean magi misjudged the power and coordinates Rhodes was directed to. It has still not yet reappeared on earth, although communication with the people still in the fortress has been made. They are apparently safe, but have no idea where they are and can't get out.
(2 thousand Zombies, -10 000 Urrian citizens, - destroyed by spatial disruptions and tsunamis)

Gorin has begun the construction of a project, 'Orb of the Prophet'. It is expected to make people inexplicably smarter, for no apparent reason.

While Gorin was quietly going on as it always had, great things were happening in Avalon. At tremendous effort and at the costs of the lives of countless magi, Bahamut, protector of Gaia and King of Dragons, was summoned.

Led by Lady morgan and escorted with treeships, Bahamut flew over Europe, and destroyed the hordes of the Lich King wherever they were found. No weapon that Songhai, Illyria, or the Undead possessed could stop him as he flew constantly closer to the mighty pyramid, known as the Glass Throne. Songhai lost several silverwings in futile attacks, then gave up and huddled down as the behemoth dragon passed. The monolithic Glass Throne was melted down as soon as the Dragon King reached it, and the Lich King within was incinerated.

But the undead hordes continued their march. While the Lich King's body was destroyed, his immortal will lived on.

Bahamut continued his reign of destruction upon the undead. Not only did he burn the remains of Khemri's capital, he traveled north and destroyed Kera, obliterating the Illyrian forces there.

It seemed to all who watched that Avalon would destroy the undead forever. But fate intervened.

Nyarlathotep, a dark Avalonian mage, slew Lady Morgan and took control of Bahamut. He sent the mighty beast on a rampage, and flew him straight back to Avalon, passing through Azathoth's shadow and becoming twisted into the most terrifying thing to walk and fly the earth since the Elder Hyperborean gods.

Which it was going to free.

Flying over old Hyperborea, Bahamut melted away the ice imprisoning the mighty Elder gods. Already, they are leaving their icy prison, planning their dominance once again.

But Bahamut was still the vastly more threatinging being than the Elder Gods. He turned on the man who had controlled him, and incinerated the island of Avalon. He then turned on the rest of Avalon and its allies, determined to get vengeance upon his summoners. He incinerated East Avalon (Scandinavia), Northern Germania, then turned to Gorin.

Merzan knew that he had no chance of stopping the monster with his own strength. So he called upon the magic of Dreadmire Isle. But before he could even contact it, Bahamut was upon his nation.

All of southern Gorin was consumed by fire. Bahamut moved on to Dreadmire.

The ancient being living beneath the island was of possibly equal power to Bahamut. What ensued was undoubtedly the greatest display of magic ever.

For months, the two powers battled, reshaping the landscape and destroying everything around them.

But Bahamut was gradually gaining the upper hand. As the strength of Dreadmire waned, Bahamut made the fatal decision of claiming its power as his own.

Dreadmire knew it was defeated. But it would not go out quietly. Concentrating all of its power, Dreadmire blew itself up, and Bahamut with it. Two of the mightiest magical beings in the cosmos were destroyed.
(-Avalon's army, -800 000 Avalonian population, -3 Avalonian eco. levels, -3 thousand Illyrian infantry, -20 possessed Warriors, -1 Illyrian economy level, -100 thousand Khemri Zombies, -100 000 Germanians, -300 000 Gorin, -2 thousand Gorin infantry, - Dreadmire)

Illyria had been severely damaged by Bahamut's attacks. Fortunately, almost everyone killed in Illyria had been sucked straight into the soul vortex, which prevented a serious economic collapse.

In what is becoming a worrying pattern, Illyria mustered its strength and cast a mighty spell of their own. Using the combined powers of the Ring of Power, the The Chaos Crystal, The Book of the Dead and the dark god Grenth; portals into the netherworlds opened up all over the nation, spewing forth terrible creatures to do Seth Dethos' bidding.

The Undead horde has set its sights upon the Empire of Ur. Returning Illyrian lands to their former owners, the necromancers formed a mighty alliance. The Illyrians have pushed the Urrians back to their original borders.

Ur's invasion of Welikoslavia is complete. Although it was necessary to divert troops to the Khemri front, the invasion was completed with aid from the Baltic states to the west.
(-1 thousand Urrian cavalry, - Welikoslavia)

The second Welikoslavia was defeated, the entirety of the Urrian army was put into a desperate front to stop the undead.

The southern Urrian army pushed a zombie vanguard off the east side of the Euphrates, then prepared their defenses on the charred ruins of Babylon.

They did not have long to wait.

The zombies began emerging from the muddy waters. Vampires launched raids on all fronts, but the defense still held out. But slowly, a realization spread through the Urrian warriors, from highest general to lowest soldier. Though over ten thousand men were defending, they could not hope to destroy the millions of undead, who were slowly whittling down the defenses. Worse still, Urrians who spent too long on the front began to sicken from exposure to the dark necromancy that was the blood of the horde.

Just as hope was beginning to collapse, light shone from the setting sun, silhouetting the salvation of Ur. Over 10 thousand Indus soldiers, phoenixes, and Firelords reinforced the beleagured Urrians. While in the big scheme of things the reinforcements didn't even up the Urrian force with the Indus, it did give a critical boost in morale. The Urrians and Indus still control the eastern shore of the Euphrates.

Other major battles have been raging outside the fortress capital of Ur. The tremendous citadel, which has never been breached and is proudly considered 'impenetrable' has been besieged for several years. Indus pyromancy has been used rather than Urrian weather magic, due to its obvious combat advantage. But despite the regular incineration of zombies, there have still been breaches when the zombies piled up so high that they could walk over the 50 foot walls. The losses in pushing out these incursions have been high.

The most successful front for the undead has inarguably been in Anatolia. They were already well established when the Urrians counterattacked, and this time there was no defensible area to fall back to. The Urrians have been inexorably pushed out of Anatolia. Their city of Bosporu (Constantinople) is now completely surrounded, its only supply line is from other ports on the Black Sea, which will likely soon be totally under undead control.

The one major victory scored by the living so far occured in a most unlikely place. Indus pyromancers secretly traveled to the source of the Nile, and cast a spell to turn all the water that travelled down the river into fire. This has effectively divided Khemri in two, making the movement of forces over the Nile next to impossible. On the other hand, where the flaming White Nile meets the Blue Nile, and where the Nile meets the sea, so much steam is produced that Khemri is now permanently overcast and impossible to survey from above.

Out of nowhere (literally- they teleported :p), Temujin the Immortal and the Mongol horde appeared in Arabia and began launching raids against the undead. Their ethereal cavalry have been highly damaging to the undead, but their other traditional soldiers have fought rather poorly. Archers can't really do much damage, unless they are firing flaming arrows, attacking the undead with infantry in the open is suicide, and cavalry become bogged down in the mass of undead and have their (and their horses) brains eaten.

Mongol attempts to cross the river nile, even by teleportation, have proven fruitless. Some strange effect of the numerous magics going on in the area has nullified Mongol teleportation in that area.

Whenever a battle against the undead is won, it has become Mongol doctrine to destroy each body so totally that no trace of it remains, and the corpses cannot possibly be brought back into undeath.
(-3 thousand Urrian infantry, -1 thousand Urrian cavalry, -4 thousand Indus infantry, -50 000 Indus Population, -70 thousand Zombies, -20 Songhai Silverwings, -2 thousand Mongol Cavalry)

The Vol'Kiss have overthrown King Tarask, and set up a Magocratic Oligarchy in his place.

New- Moon on Monday!

Er, I mean, here's the map

Oh, I just mentioned Duran Duran because I did all of this update while listening to their Greatest Hits CD.

Yay! No one attacked me! And I have 9 Trade Centers!

You guys are much more creative then I am--I never would have thought of summoning dragons, freeing elder gods, etc.... but then again, my territory isn't scorched, on fire, or being invaded by hordes of undead zombies...

2 in Antarctica. 2 in Hawaii (don't forget my capital is one). 2 in Central America. 1 in the Galapagos. 1 in New Zealand. 1 in the Marshall islands. That's 9.

crap... CRAP!! CRAPPY #@%@#%@#$@#$@#$@# !!!! hey iggy, the story for the stone thingy involves Dreadmire (taken place before the destruction) is that ok?

Excellent...

Kentharu, remeber, Lord Mordred is Heir to both the Avalon and Gorin nations, as well as being the current ruler of Germinia. which reminds me, besure to merge Avalon and Germinia next turn. and have various portions break off into new nations.. and if somethign happened to your Rular, he would be yours to be your personafication in this Nes (giving you control of all three, makeing a grand empire.)

Avalon is dead, Hail, umm what ever is formed from the remains of Germania and Avalon, posibly including the Gorin.

DisFranchised, the Infor you gave me a long time ago came in handy.. and he has propigated his masters return. ^_^

Ah, to be free of this Nes atlast, to spread my creative juices to nutral stories.

"Blast! Blast the bloodied undead, burn their pitiful hide in Baator's Nine Layers! Gaia take them! I have had enough of these damnable abominations appearing, reappearing! Elder Gods are loose! DAMNT IT! Is there never peace?"
Zahan, the Evoker of the Earth, watched with only slightly less rage at the new developments at Sharen, the figure tossing burning furniture around him in the conference hall of the Academy. Only recently, the Coven had received word of the new threats that had appeared in the world. Without hesitation, the choice of sending aid to Arabia had been confirmed. "I, too, tire of these constant threats. But soon, maybe, shall our renown as enemies of undeath be greater than ever before. I have contemplated this issue alone and with others for a time now, and I see few options to use. We could launch a standard assault, with our new creations" - he glanced at the fiery-eyed, former Ranger standing guard at the door - "serving as spearheads. Zer'Vol could be helpful at the coast. But our allies best beware.. If nothing else functions, we shall withdraw and sink the entire area. Arabia rests upon a tectonic plate of it's own, which shall indeed serve well. Obviously, we have not the power or focus needed for the entire area, but simply pushing it a bit.."
Sharen's smile was as cold as Zahan's. "I enjoy the smell of burning undead."

Story bonuses???Or did they affect the update in a positive way....

So it's going to be some sort of Kalmar Union in northern Europe?

Ach. I guess I sided with the losing side, but what the heck. I'll do my best. :)

Khemri still has over a million zombies?
General Chaos?
YES. OH, YES.

Iggy, shouldn't my project be at 4/6 or at least 3/6 by now?

Also, what's the status of Azathoth's Shadow?
