LINESII- Into the Darkness- Part II

Month-long? Oh, dear. Does that mean this NES is suspended for four or even five weeks? :( I don't play in that many NESes, dammit! Plus now that this thread is watched, it might be closed due to incessant update demands!

*drum beat and cymbal crash*

Well.. It is kinda a pain.. stJNES5 was closed cause an update took 3 hours... MOD's realy take their time this days :p

And yes I understand they got better thigns to do.. still... Write a 3 pages thing in word in a week :p kinda..

how many times to go on holidays/trips anyway? you going abroad or somthing

This trip is a trip for an Experiential Science program I am in.

The other ones are usually speed skating trips to the Olympic Oval in Calgary. The summer trips are visits to relatives.

I think we should pool our rescourses and buy Iggy a laptop with mobile internet.

Great idea! I'll donate 20 bucks to the Lord_Iggy's Update NAO Fund. Anyone else? :)

Out of interest in seeing this update, 12,54 trillion Byzantine hyperpyra are contributed to said fund out of the state economy that we rescued through the Brane Hole. ;)

Realistically, without a hard location on Iggy, we can't send any money. It'd be a cool idea, no?

There is also something called "Smite me, oh Mighty Smiter!" if you ever saw Bruce Almighty.

EDIT: Seriously, guys. Let's tone it down now so Iggy won't have to see how the thread was closed about a week after his departure. It would only suck, for all of us.

Erez, if you nag and whine another NES to death, then I'm going to hunt you down and bloody kill you. It isn't funny, isn't helpful, and when you haven't managed to write a decent NES yourself, you have no right to complain, at all. So shut the **** up.

Sorry, but it's a school trip. I'm going to be working during it.

On the plus side, because I miss a month's worth of weekends and days off, I get a bunch of time off in November and December, and a week off in January. Plus a 3 week spring break in February due to the Canada Games occuring where I live.

If you guys would let me simplify the NES some I could update more often...

Anway, I will be resuming updating shortly, then maybe do some homework.

Agreed. Quite whining Erez, it helps no one.

Iggy - RL, especially homework, is much more important than NESing, obviously. Despite my burning urge (which I *do* plan on getting checked out) to know what happened to my country, I am more than happy to wait. Even if its been thrown into civil war...

Especially if its been thrown into civil war :p

I could PM you your section of the update if you're absolutely desparate, but I don't want to release it bit by bit. It reduces anticipation.

What kind of simplifications did you have in mind? Aside from regions based economy?

In other news, what with the recent widespread disagreement over what-the-hell-era-in-history-does-this-point-in-time-actually-correspond-to, you-scurvy-ahistorical-dogs? maybe every update or two we could get a brief estimate range for the most "advanced" countries like you did when you told us it was ca. 100 BC to AD 400 [futile insertion of opinion: several hundred years later than I would have pegged it at]. It could help keep us on track for where our nations stand.

I agree with you, icarus. It is an alternate universe after all, and technology in different areas will advance at different speeds. But since even by Iggy's own estimation, its been 2000 years tops since the dawn of prehistory. Judging by the fact that according to OTL it would still be 1000 BCE, (and that's generous,) technological progress (or technoflation) has increased at a slightly faster rate, IMO.

That would bring us to a pre-Roman or late Hellenic World level...perhaps 500 BCE. Contrary to what das has said, naval technology hasn't really advanced to anything farther than that, despite its patronage by the Valin nations.

Just look at the Punic Wars. You had fleets of over 100 Quinqueremes (which are about as large as the largest ships fielded by Veritas or Khemri) engaging in battle, and armies with sizes (at times) of almost 50,000 people clashing. The Battle of Trebia was on a far larger scale than anything we've seen yet here.

At least in terms of army and navy size if not population, (I personally think that in the next age, one eco should buy 2000 troops to account for this,) LINESII lags a bit behind our world.

Conversely however, architecture and city building, siege warfare, and other more peaceful domestic pursuits seem to live up to their OTL comparisons, thanks to the efforts of Veritas, Khemri, and the Citadel mostly.

This is my justification for pegging the current date of the NES in OTL terms at 500-700 BCE.

EDIT: I almost forgot the Battle of Cannae, where there were at least 80,000 Romans and Latins, and 45,000 of Hannibal's troops.
