LINESII- Into the Darkness

From: The Citadel
To: Tribes east of Maugot

Who are the Lengels? Do you know their numbers? Do they have horses or iron? If they are as much of a threat as they seem to be, does it not makes sense to unite to drive them off? The Citadel would be pleased to provide assistance in unifying and repulsing the Lengels.
(Note: Representative can't speak your language well)
Lengels are devil-men. They ride horseback and kill with sharp metals. Blade and spear and axe and their madness. I heard one Lengel kill a dozen of humans. Their numbers, we not know. Unify? We wish. It is impossible. Too different, are the tribes. We fight together maybe, but unify is possible no. No, I mean not possible.

Also @Iggy: You say in the update that the full attentions of Gammorrea were directed towards Malkavia. If this is the case, why did we lose an eco point and not them?
Because you were more vulnerable. Gamorrea was far more prepared and well defended. Your fields were almost impossible to defend, with your limited army. Malkavia is forested, and easier to defend. Once they were on guard for Gamorreans, they were much harder to pillage. Meanwhile, the Gamorreans carried off several of your harvests.

The Citadel supports Dracus Teranius' proposal.

OOC: I understand why the great mod iggy doesn't answer everything in one post, it's because he wants more post counts ;)

Well of course. That's why there's so much nitpicking over treaties.

Speaking of nitpicking, how would we define a balance of power between Veritas and Khmeri? Same income per turn?

From: Veritas
To: Largely Oneist citizens of Mogul

We're curious. Would you rather be independent, like you were under the "leadership" of the Hajan dynasty, part of Khemri, which has invaded and manipulated you for a couple centuries now, or part of Veritas, who gives you total political freedom and freedom of religion?
We were and for the most part still are living better under Veritasian rule than we were under the utter idiot Hajan III. His Dynasty is dead now, and our nation was too weak to prosper alone. Being part of Veritas is the best thing for us.

And I'm afraid I don't understand how catapults are able to sink warships, since cannonballs weren't able to sink ships in the Age of Discovery either and the primary way of naval combat was for a long time ramming, flaming arrows and boarding

The ballistae did more damage. The catapults are primarily for coastal bombardment. But a lucky shot with a catapult projectile would sink or damage a ship.

Shangei's government isn't monarchial correct? More like a Union of Cities and Tribes right? Like an Aristocratic Republic?
Oligarchy. One hereditary representative from each city.

OOC: Iggy, do you have aim/msn?
No.

From Davar

We hope you will sign this treaty so we can get this pointless war over with and get to the big problem. You're getting what you want so it should be no problem.
Making an independent Gerber nation in a practically uninhabited area is stupid. It's either Gerbers or ours, preferably ours. Technically, it's US giving up land here in this peace treaty. The Gerbers should be thankful.

OOC: I understand why the great mod iggy doesn't answer everything in one post, it's because he wants more post counts
It's because of crossposting actually. I write all the responses to previous diplo, and once it's posted I find more.

To Shangei
From Guangfei

In the name of Heaven and all that is just and virtuous, the Emperor Han offers his most sincere compliments on the greatness of your people in bringing themselves into the light of civilization. As a gift to the formation of your nation, the Emperor Han offers a 5 turn NAP. In addition to the NAP, the Emperor sends one of the most beautiful woman in all of Guangfei, Xi Shi, as a gift and peace offer to the strongest of Shangei.

May the Heavens bless you :)

The new treaty doesn't end the war:(

We like the Pacifists Ideas better.

And We disagree with Article 7.

and OOC: Shouldn't the winners be negotiating the treaty:crazyeye:

The treaty we're all talking about is the pacificist one.

The land that we propose would make up this new nation has never belonged to your country. Yes, we are including lands that you have seized recently. And yes, we understand that they have little population in them. But that can change over time with the right leadership. You would also be receiving land in the treaty too.

The nation will never have an army, so you have nothing to fear from it. But it will provide a barrier against northern and western invasions, something that we must have. Do not forget that we fought to assist you, suffering causalities to take what land we have. It would be stupid to create a nation with only the lands we currently control, but we will do it nonetheless.

Whether you approve of it or not, we will assist in the development of this land and it's people. The land you will be giving up is not that much of a price for our assistance in this war. We hope you will accept our deal.

We have also decided to offer you one eco point for the land you have conquered.

Well, it goest against one of the tenets that our nation was founded on, but damn, she's hot.

*****

Er, nix that last diplo.

We accept your offer. But nothing underhanded please. We were founded partly because of fear of invasion by you.

To: Davar
From: Tristaria

Whatever. But we didn't really need help though. We outnumbered the Gerbers in the first place.

Alex, to answer your question about the catapults, i you direct to this article. The ships now have many rows of rowers, and the main unction of the Catapult was to destroy the rowers and paralyze the ships, not sink them. Iggy, please check your PM's:)

OOC: Out of sheer curiosity, what are the tenets that Shangei was founded upon? ;) You do note the words "the strongest of Shangei" right :mischief:

IC: We assure the leaders of Shangei that the Emperor Han has no territorial ambition towards Shangei and is as much inclined towards betrayal as humans are to flying:)

OOC:

Shouldn't the winners be negotiating the treaty

It depends on how you see it. Yes they are currently winning the war of as now, but it's only because its a three-on-one assault. Who is to say what would happen in the future? Mountains can crumble, civilizations can fall, and the world can collapse if Iggy sees fit.

The way that I see, if they really want to win this war without suffering thousands of more losses and dragging it out another 10-20-30 turns, they have to accept a peace treaty. If not, then they would have to invade Veritas, fight through the mogs of it's populace, cross a mountain range well defended, and practically genocide my entire country before I would stop fighting back. Who knows how long that would take, if they were even able to do it?
as for me personally, I'm not about to accept any treaty that I believe puts them in a superior position. It'll either be genocide or a fair treaty.

OOC: The update says otherwise you know ;) And how on earth do you know what were kal's intentions? :p I knew it! Secret polar bear conspiracy...

Okay, my bad about the catapults. Forget that.

The tenets that Shangei was founded on were:

Mutual defense.
Independence.
Cooperation for the greater good of the people of the Shangei League.

So which tenet did that violate?

@Iggy: Just saw this
He is forging the peace movements in these countries into an organized force. In republican nations such as Davar and Veritas, this organized group could become a dangerous problem should the war continue much longer.

Really? The fact that I haven't fought one battle in the war? I can see promblems with the Gerber war, but not the Great War. You know, a war to repay the country that practically saved my nation when it was first started?

;).

Well, they feared an infringement on independance, possibly due to excessive paranoia.

Edit: DAMN CROSSPOSTS!!! I DON'T THINK I'VE MADE A POST TODAY WITHOUT CROSSPOSTS!!!!

Yeah, well I grouped you together. You're naturally suffering less than Veritas.

Answer your PM iggy, and It hink the catapults can stay if used historically correct, like two hits would definatley sink a ship.
