LINESII- Into the Darkness

Khemrian Polytheism

The revelation of change, came with the foundation of Alexandria. Animilism was no longer satisfactory, The gods changed the further away from Khadon you travelled. And the People of Alexandria felt this most keenly, unsure wether they worshiped the True gods of Khemri or wether this was merely a pale reflection of their true beings.

Until the Great Prophet Sathya.
Sathya was but a commen man of Alexandria, Where he was from originally is unknown, but he began the Codification period. A Period where the Khemrian Gods were Codified, And were written upon Parchment, in the Holy Codex. Later came "The Book of the Dead" and "Mazdaism", which were incorperated into the Holy Trinity. A set of Scrolls encompassing most Holy Writ.

The Holy Codex lays the foundations, it is the Creation Myth, the naming of the gods and their tasks and duties. Finally some of the young human hero's are in here.
The Book of the Dead, is the book of morals, it lays down the foundation of how the people should be and how they should act for the betterment of themselves. This is usually metaphorically, but some scripture is understood to be literal.
The Mazdaism, is the path of the Future, In it is the Future path of the Khemrian people, their Task. And the First signs of monotheism, a Pantheistic God.

This change brought about a great change to Alexandria, mixed with news of Barbarian hordes approaching, the people worried for themselves, turned to Sathya for guidance. Here he brought about the Holy Codex. And in him the people found hope. And when he passed away, they inscribed his Holy Words.

Priests of Sathya, as they were called, were the first literate cast of people in Khemri. The elite few. As such they taught the Holy Codex. Alexandria was their great home, residing in the Temple Of Sathya.

“MOVE NOW” Turga yelled as he struggled to run backwards and draw his sword at the same time, but only succeeded in falling over. His pack making it hard to get to his feet as the beast charged towards him. His heart was already racing, adrenaline pulsing through his veins, making his eyes seem all the more big. Got to get my sword out, got to protect them, he thought frantically as he yanked again at his sword, which was stuck in his belt. Its getting closer! My god look at those teeth. The beast was charging him, it’s body sleek, every muscle defined and it’s shear mass could probably crash through a brick hut. God help me help me! Turga thought over and over again until finally he ripped the sword loss from his belt, cutting it at the same time. A roar erupted from Turga as the beast leapt in the air, it’s claws visible and large canine’s all to prominent. Moving as fast as his limbs would allow Turga rolled out of the way just in time, as the beasts claws sank into Turga’s pack. Quickly he got to his feet as the beast ripped apart the pack, seeming to forget about Turga completely but inevitably the beast looked up from the pack, realizing it was not edible at all, and immediately charged.

My god this thing is fast! In a matter of seconds the beast had closed the gap between him and Turga and again leapt in the air, its jaw open and angled slightly to the side so as to clamp down on Turga’s neck. A pity though, that this beast, in it’s ravenous hunger, had wondered across Turga’s path, for even though it’s mighty jaws and razor sharp teeth snapped on around Turga’s neck, Turga’s sword had already penetrated it’s hide and was now poking through its back. Why didn’t I move faster, damn it this is… I… Both Turga and the beast lay dead on the sun beaten earth, around them, in an almost perfect circle, was a pool of their own blood, which had already dried in a matter of minutes and soaked into the ground to leave it an almost black appearance, as if burnt.

It took a while but finally her coughing had stopped, which only left her to weaze as she tried to catch her breath.
“Mesami Shanti, are you alright now?” Phili asked in his normal quiet voice. His hand was resting on her back and the other was holding her arm so she wouldn’t fall over
“I’m ok now, thank you Phili” Masami said quickly, straightening up and wincing as pain shot up her back “Do you see Turga?”
“No Shanti, I am sorry… he was a brave warrior” Phili replied
Damn it, we already lost guards to that damned beast, hopefully Turga had taken it with him in his inevitable demise.
“My Shanti we must keep moving, the capital is close at hand” Phili said enthusiastically. They had been traveling for days from the Ishithi village after recovering one of the most valuable gems ever seen. The village of course was located at the foot of the Bluet Mountains, specifically on Romanthi, which was barely inside of Gorin’s borders just like the village. This was just one of the many gems they had found at the foot of the mountain and Mesami Fema Shanti, as leader of the village, was caring the stone to the capital to be inspected and to hopefully have the Council’s approval to start mining there.

Shanti is a respectful term for a female like my lady

ooc MOOSE!!

The Creation

Nikkal and Ra held a conference and decide that, in order to preserve their legacy, they must create a race of beings who can worship them. Nikkal does the actual creating while Ra guide's the process. Earth is created, but the gods make several false starts in setting humanity upon the earth. Animals were created first; however, with all of their howling and squawking they did not worship their creators and were thus banished forever to the forest. Man is created first of mud, but they just crumbled and dissolved away. Other gods are summoned and man is next created of wood but has no soul, and they soon forgot their makers, so the gods turned all of their possessions against them and brought a black resinous rain down on their heads. Finally man is formed of masa or corn dough by even more gods and their work is complete.

or in the Holy Writ

Before the Earth, Before Time, Before Stars themselves, there was Nikkal and Ra. Sun and Moon, Dancing their eternal dance. And They were Joyfull.

Ra however soon tired, and pleaded with Nikkal To stop. Nikkal confused wondered what was wrong.

"If I only had the Strength to continue, I would, but we have been dancing so long i do not Know where to begin"

Nikkal commanded it and Time was Born.

"Now you can measure yourself"

And they Danced Anew.

But Again Ra Tired. This Time Nikkal questioned her partner. "What is it you seek?"

"I have many responsabilites, yet I cannot track them all, so enthralled am I."

"Well let us create Others to assist us"

And the Gods were Born of Nikkal.

And Anew they danced.

And Yet Again Ra tired.

Nikkal Demanded to Know what was wrong.

"I have but not the Strength to continue"

And Nikkal created The Earth, To support Ra. Nikkal Created the Animals of the World, but they turned from Nikkal and Ra, and became insane and beast like.

Next Nikkal created a Humans of Wood, but they refused to worship. Ra descended upon them, taking their souls to sustain him. And they stood still, Plants forever more.

Finally Nikkal Created man with soul, from Corn from the river Khim.

And Man Was born, he worshipped the gods, to sustain them in their life.

And Ra and Nikkal continued dancing. Forever more. Until the Rhama Dama.

The Gods created to cater for peoples of the Khim Vallya are:

Kak God Of War
Mun God Of Fertality and The River
Ah Puch God of Death
Huna God of Wisdom

And their stories are numerous and many...

OOC: I.e. later not tonight maybe next update *yawn*, couple more to go (planning to cover the basics of the other two books.)

The Book of the Dead was written shortly after Sathya's death. In it were ensribed the commandements of how to live the life of worhip and to prosper in this world.

An important one is:

You Shall Not Steal
Theft is the worst transgression of Nikkals Gift. And they ways upon which you can steal are many and numerous.

Do not lie to a man, for you steal truth from his eyes
Do not kill a man, For you steal his life of Worship
Do not take a mans property, For you steal his right to riches
Do not replace a mans Gods, For their is only our One true Way
Do not take a mans wife, for she has been tied to him and him alone

Next Free will, and exercising it.

In the Book of the Dead it teaches the Battle between good and evil. Good is the Gods, Evil is turning from the Gods. Reward, punishment, happiness and grief all depend on how individuals live their life. Good befalls the people who do righteous deeds. Those who do evil have themselves to blame for their evil-doing.

"they who for my sake render him obedience, shall all attain unto Welfare and Immortality by the actions of the Good Spirit" - Sathya

Lastly the Death of one self.

Religious rituals related to death are all concerned with the person's soul and not the body. Upon death, a person's soul leaves the body after three days and the body becomes just an empty shell. The are disposed of by leaving them atop open-topped enclosures, called Towers of Silence, or Dokhmas. Vultures and the weather would clean the flesh of the bones, which were then placed into an ossuary at the center of the Tower.

The First of these towers is built in Alexandria, towering above the Skyline. It is one of the most prominent and visable parts of the city.

Mazdaism deals with the future of Khemri and the end times.

The Rhama Dama is the myth of destruction.
It is the beleif that eventually Nikkal and Ra will end their dance. That they will begin something else. Another divine duty.

The Rhama Dama is the myth of these end times. It is prophosized that the end times will come in a blaze of fire, of death and war. Famine and destruction. The Last Battle. The young gods will die in this conflict, being subsumed by Ra again. Ah Puch will be the first to call them together, and the last to fall. For after all have died, what use is death?

This time is looked upon with some trepidation by Khemrians, but they accept that this is only part of the natural order of things.

In the mean time, the Religion must survive, Ra needs strength, the Khemrian people must spread and multiply and fill all the Earth with their glorious creation.

OOC: Shorter than I'd hoped but I'm TOO tired.

End of religion stories for the moment. :)

Any chance we might start using metal soon, Iggy?

No. That was an example. Mining will pop up sometime, when I feel like advancing things.

Also, the year of the update is 225 P.D, or Post Diaspora.

I'll still call it year 225, for simplicity's sake. But you can call it PD if you want.

THE FOUNDATIONS OF TIGOT

As the Aneyans ones lived in the forests which gave them shade but as the forests retreated the Aneyans had to find a new home. They took as many woods as they could find and begun creating the first man made houses. This houses were mostly leather of some animals stretched on several wooden sticks. This structure continued to develop and in time a very large area near the river was covered with shade, in this place the Aneyans lived. They created clothes from leather which have covered their whole bodies and than they could begin travel outside of the city, mostly to fish in the river and farm the country side. Yet even with this primitive clothes most Aneyans chose to live in the growing village of Tigot.

After for about three hundred years of population growth the Aneyans could no longer support their own city of Tigot. Many begun to die from hunger and several groups thought of removing the leader from his throne. This ideas failed after the king met with several other civilizations and begun to buy food and sold leather clothes and other resources the Aneyans had. This trade relations begun to change Tigot. From a failing city with a hungry population Tigot has turned into a flourishing trade center of the lands. Most if not all traders passed through Tigot to buy the most priceless leather clothes and in order to trade with other nations.. Even thought Tigot was not the center of the area, it's need for food trade made it a center of trade. A small army of spearmen was created to defend the city from anyone wishing to ruin it and soon the King created the first school of thoughts in his precious city. Tigot was rising to become also a center of learning...

ORDERS

The Military of Khemri: The Rhama

The Backbone of any Military force is its spearmen, these are the troops that will be called upon in time of need. The Khemrian Spearmen, situated to the south of Crystal Ridge have access to one of the strongest non-metals.

Obsidian. This is usually Black, and can be cut into very sharp edges. This is then attached to the ends of the Spears, as their point. The Khemrian forces have began to use a phalanx formation, for the protection and strength gained as a team, rather than fighting individualy. The Spearmen in units of 100 line up in no less than 4 ranks deep, with sheilds over lapping and spears in front. The Second rank can also thrust their spear forward, making an even more deadly spear wall.

The Support Units are the Archers, though they have little real damage on enemy units, a black shower of arrows, felling man indiscriminantly, is a terrible blow to morale. As men realise their own Morality. It is for this purpose that archers are used for. Rather than for their ability to fell men.

Finally we come to the Elite. (UU!)
The Royal Guard, Armed with longer spears, for extra range, tipped with the green Obsidion rarely found in the Crystal Ridge Mountains. Make up the Elite of the Khemrian Army. The extra length of the spears, lets the Royal Guard bring an extra 2 ranks to put their spears forth. However this has nessicitated making the sheilds smaller so the Royal Guard can carry this extra weight.

OOC: i.e. I'm buying 1000 UU and 1000 Archers :p

Can't really have stone swords, now can we?

Obsidian set in a wooden club can give you a very effective sword (well compared with other stone age things for killing), of course for that you need access to the darn stuff ;)

Edit: I spend too long looking up how to spell obsidian and Kal' beats me

I remember the name now; the aztec Macahuital

Obsidian can be found in volcanic flows, especially in rainy regions where lighter stone is weathered off. So whoever has access to wet volcanic mountain range will have it in quanties necessary for an army, everyone else will have a lot less. In other words, whoever iggy says has it ;).

Its pretty cool that Obsidian is still in use nowadays as surgical blades  5 times sharper than steel after all ;).
