Treaty of the Gerber-Tristaria War
1. Gerber, Davar, and Tristaria (hope i spelt that right) shall sign a 5 year NAP.

2. Gerber shall apologies to Tristaria for its agreesion (formality)

3. Gerber shall sign a NAP with Veritas

4. Gerber shall surrender the said lands and shall leave all resources and structures within them intact

5. Davar shall surrender said lands and shall leave all resources and structures within them intact

6. Tristaria shall surrender said lands and shall leave all resources and structures within them intact

Hmm, I think this treaty is better, just for the Gerber-Tristaria conflict. A Republic of Gerbi isn't really needed at the moment.

Veritas signs, and encourages Tristaria and Gerber to do so as well.

Gakuto ran home, his cloak streaming behind him. Expertly he navigated the crowds, weaving side to side, squeezing through the narrowest of spaces without slowing down. A satchel full of scrolls beat against his side in rhythm to his pumping legs.

Gakuto was part of something new, something that had been rare to non-existent in the Doragon-ha Mountains prior to the rise of Ikki. Before, with the incessant warfare among the city-states and the constant threat of bandits, trade had stifled, trickling down to nothing. Oppressive lords ruled the lands, ensuring that all of its produce went to them. As a result, there was only two classes, the rich lords and the poor peasant, with a wide gulf between the two. With the reforms brought about by Ikki, wealth became more equally distributed. Former peasants now owned the land they worked, allowing for lucky and industrious farmers to make a comfortable living. Rapid campaigns against bandits made the mountains safe again for travel, encouraging merchants to begin trading across mountains. Without their energies being drained by continual war, craftsmen found a larger market for their goods. These actions caused the rise of a new middle class, a class which Gakuto comfortably belonged to.

His father was a farmer who made a comfortable living off the land. His father, wanting a better life for his son, sent him at an early age to the nearby monastery at Mii-dera. There he was trained as a sohei, the naginata wielding warrior priests who protected the land. While there, wander-lust came over him, and with permission from his superiors, he joined a merchant convoy as a mercenary in order to protect it. At the time sohei were in high demand to protect merchants and the merchants Gakuto was protecting were very successful, so in short time Gakuto was able to retire in comfort, investing his money in several other merchant ventures, ensuring that baring a catastrophe, he would be able to live out his life in modest wealth.

During his travels, he came into contact with a new religion, New Eldism. At this point, there were three main religions in Ikki, Animism, Neo-Animism, and New Eldism. Animism was mainly confined to the older generations and was quickly dieing out. Neo-Animism was the religion of the warrior monk protectors of Ikki. As such, it gained a wide following among the poor who gratefully see the monks as their champions. New Eldism became popular among the rich as the cultured alternative to the “primitive” Neo-Animism. The interchange of these three religions caused the rise of a fourth. The new middle class was caught in the middle, feeling an obligation to the Neo-Animism of the warrior monks who protected them and caused the conditions that allowed them to make their living, while facing the cultural and intellectual attraction of New Eldism. The dynamic compromise that evolved was Tendai Eldism. Tendai Eldism married the Neo-Animism spiritual quest for enlightenment with the emphasis on peace and knowledge from New Eldism causing it to believe that the path to enlightenment was found through the peaceful pursuit of knowledge.

Gakuto, like many of his class, embraced this new syncretistic religion. As a result, Gakuto set down his naginata and took up the writing implements of a student. For someone in Ikki who wished to pursue knowledge, there was only one place to go, the monastery Enryakuji to sit at the feet of the Enlightened One, Gyoja. The first time Gakuto heard Gyoja speak, he was entranced. It was a cosmic tragedy that Gyoja, bent almost double with age, would not live much longer. His death would rob the world of great wisdom. Gakuto then resolved to do his part to ensure that Gyoja’s wisdom would live on. Since the day he arrived at Enryakuji he attended every lecture, writing down in shorthand every word that was spoken in order to preserve Gyoja’s wisdom for future generations.

Back at the small flat that he lived in, he got out his notes, preparing to transcribe his shorthand into more readable words. Today’s lecture had gotten Gakuto especially excited as it dealt with his own religion and quest for enlightenment.

Hitteki: Good Master, rebuke those who are tainted by Eldism.

Gyoja: Why do you wish me to do such a thing?

Hitteki: Through their teachings they refuse to take the responsibility of protecting themselves. They clamor for peace but refuse to take responsibility for ensuring it.

Gyoja: What is the purpose of peace? Peace allows people to devote themselves to their path of enlightenment. There is one enlightenment yet many paths. Does the eye scorn the ear because it does not see? Does the ear despise the hand because it cannot hear? So do not look down upon those who follow a different path to enlightenment than you. For some are privileged to protect peace and some to enjoy peace. Some attain enlightenment through bodily discipline, some through knowledge, some through art, some through toil of the land. Let each search within to find their own path and then follow it. Let no one else criticize others chosen path for the one who does not follow their own path is far from enlightenment, no matter how well they follow the path of another.

Gakuto put down his pen. The words resonated within him. Though he appreciated the sohei, their path was not his path. His path was the path of the Tendai, the path of seeking and preserving knowledge. His path began with collecting the sayings of the Enlightened One, but who knew where the path would end.
