LK16 - France, Monarchy expirement

Pre-turn:
We just can't get a break - Was a great leader to much to ask for?
Didn't we get punished enough with the almost all angry barb goody huts?

Switch Orleans to slow growth mode, saving 7 turns on Newtons.
Pop = 3nd, GNP = 5th, etc.

Review trading screen. Not much to do.

1150 AD - Steam power researched? I have a bad feeling the AI got it.
Going for factories. We have no connected coal. Our easy source is next to Japan with the city of ise. :( Grenoble switches to library - we really need to insure japan doesn't push that border
back.
1160 AD - I switch Zimbabwe to FP. Hopefully a leader can rush it, but we need more production.
1190 AD - Coal is connected. Main emphasis begins at Orleans and Paris.
1200 AD - Rails already helping - Chartes cuts 1 turn on Marketplace eta.
1210 AD - [dance] We complete smith's. Some cascades to Newtons.
1220 AD - ARGGGGGGGGGGG. WE don't get Newton's. Orleans switchs to Military Academy.
1230 AD - Temple rush decision made, Zunguin. Persia would buy the dye if available.
This is the only rush we can afford.
1240 AD - Cherbourg is formed. The palace expands.
1250 AD - MPP between England and Rome.
1265 AD - Switch FP target. Amiens is 2 shields a turn. Still faster then Zimbabwe.
Military academy is completed. Orleans starts a temple! 4 turns for happy and culture.
1270 AD - GACK! AI gets industry.
1275 AD - Suffarge starts with 3 of the civs. Not my typical factory mode. Most cities don't switch. Tugela flips to Japan. I rush the Umfolozi and Isandhlwana temples. This sucks, as our
pitiful cash gets worse.
1280 AD - Monarchy is hell. The AI already has medicine. Trade dyes to Persia getting Medicine (saves 3 turns), Gems, $16. Really bad news, Persia already has electricty.
Japan finally polite after yet another free wm. Electricty in 4 turns with a science rate drop.
I also rush Zimbabwe temple. I can't let Japan get coal via a flip.
India declares war on Persia.
1290 AD - Persia and China - MPP. Rome and India ally vs. Persia. The other continent is becoming a mess.
1295 AD - $10 gets Japan back to polite.
Renegoiate deals, get a lot more from England. We get Communism (OK, junk but it will keep getting offered, so I wanted to get it out of the way), and more cash.

Summary - We really need ToE.
I have a bad feeling Japan is going to declare war.
I don't think we could survive a war with Japan. Our factories are just starting to come on-line. We may have to sacrifice a junk city of Zululand for peace.

Good Luck Thiazi, we need it.

I'll post my turn summary in the morning but in case the next person wants to play before then, I'll post the save and a brief overview of my turns. The world is at war with eachother but through some act of God, we have managed to stay out of trouble. Japan just sent off a fair amount of its troops to invade Rome but I would hesitate to attack them at this moment. I made a lot of progress with our rail road system and it is nearing completion. We did get the Theory of Evolution and we gained Atomic Theory and Electronics. I spent most of my time, improving our infrastructure, but I did add some more troops to our military. We need to start upgrading our musketeers to infantry but I just didn't get around to doing it. Good luck, and I will post my summary when I wake up.

:) No war :)

I agree on upgrading the troops. I didn't do much there, waiting for > $1000.

ToE news is great :goodjob:.
Now if we can get Hoover ...

BrianJ - keep getting those factories on line.
Keep trading. Get us Hoover.
Switch Orleans to it NOW!
I think it is our ONLY eligible city with production

We have a tech edge on this, let's take advantage.

We are finally getting to the point of being a real power.

Persia will trade for dyes.

It is time for a revolution - Democracy.

1295: Rome asks for an alliance against the Persians; we decline.

1310: China declares war on Rome.

1315: Paris starts Universal Suffrage. Lyons starts Wall Street.

1320: Scientiffic Method complete; start Atomic theory.

1325: Purchase Corporation from India for world map and 170 gold. (I am not sure on that price but I was having trouble deciphering my own handwriting.) England and China agree to a MPP. Our palace is expanded. Paris switches to the Theory of Evolution and it should take 12 turns to complete.

1330: England declares war on Persia.

1335: China declares war on Persia. England declares war on India.

1345: England declares war on Rome.

1350: Trade iron to Persia for spices, Replaceable Parts, 350 gold and their world map. /** We have multiple sources of iron and I just could not pass on such a lopsided deal. **/

1355: India and China reach a peace agreement.

1365: Purchase Sanitation from Indoa for 240 gold. We have lost our suppy of furs! England offers an alliance against Rome; we decline. Japan and Persia ally against Rome.

1385: Trade dyes and 30 gold to Persia for gems, England and India have made peace. Theory of Evolution complete; we gain Atomic Theory and Electronics. Our research is now directed towards Refining.

1390: Trade wines and gems to Rome for furs.

Edit: No, I did not wake up at 5 PM, I woke up early but I was busy working on programs.

Brianois the Frank once again takes control of the French Monarchy only to find he is just a figure head, and the nation is a republic!

Preturn:
Brianois is shocked to learn we have no Oil! At least the Japanese don't have any either.. Of course, we haven't learned Refining yet. Brian's advisors take away the pungent weed. :crazyeye:

Hoover Dam is ordered in Orleans. 27 turns. It would be 18 turns in Paris but Paris has no river! Some tweaking brings it down to 24 turns.

1395 AD:
I increase the science rate a bit. Refining in 18 from 32 turns.

1400 AD:
Japan and Persia sign a military alliance against China.

Wall Street completes in Lyons!

I upgrade all Musketeers and pikemen to Infantry.

(900 and 500 respectively..)

1405 AD:
Oops, Refining now in 1 turn.. some other civs must have it!

1410 AD:
We learn Refining, start on Steel. We have 2 oil patches!

1415 AD:
Watch sea battles between the Romans and Japanese.

1420 AD:
MMWM

1425 AD:
Persia wants an alliance vs the English. I decline. Instead they offer Steel (2 turns for us). Espionage, 3gpt and 80 gold for dyes!

Several factories are started. We can build the intelligence agency. 16 turns to Hoover and we are the ONLY ones building it! :)

We flip to Radio from Steel. oops, changed to Combustion. Once we get tanks, we will be unstoppable! :D

1430 AD:
Persians offer us gems for Iron.. sure why not? My gosh, what are they fighting with, sticks? This gets us another luxury to head off the unhappiness..

Japanese offer us Ivory for Saltpeter.. Sure, it's almost obsolete anyway.. They have cavalry so they must have had a source before anyway.

China wants Dyes and Atomic Theory for Insence. I'm not ready to give away Atomic Theory until we have Hoovers.

Rome is too poor to trade, although they need Dyes.

I rush a factory in Grenoble. We need to start building up this city.

England wants Atomic Theory for spices. Something to keep in mind for when we get closer to Hoovers Dam.

1435 AD:
Worker Movement. Is Amiens really the right place for the FP? How about further south into Zulu lands?

1440 AD:
Th Th Th Thats All folks! The next leader should think about whether the FP should be further south. Remember the luxury trades for Atomic Theory if we get close enough to Hoovers for your comfort level. Right now 14 turns, and noone seems to even have Atomic theory yet never mind electronics!

To be honest, I am not sure in Amiens was the perfect spot.

However, it was the furthest south that I could get more then 1 shield a turn. If was can go a bit further south with some decent production ...

So much easier with a leader

Are we still a republic???????????

Inherited: Renegotiated a few trade deals. All cities with 1 production switched to courthouse.

1) 1445 Zimbabwe gets 2 shields a turn, FP would take 100 turns there. Amiens gets it in 7. Well, with war always a possibility with Japan, I leave it in Amiens, we might need all the production boost we can get soon. Wow, we are short on granaries too.

2) 1450 MMOW
Japan demands atomic theory, we say no. Whew, no war.

3) 1455 More worker movement.

4) 1460 MMOW
China and Rome have signed a peace treaty.

5) 1465 Pollution strikes. Combustion drops to 1 turn, I purchase it from england for 1 gold. Mass production ordered, 10 turns away.
China and Japan have signed a peace treaty.

6) 1470 India and Persia have signed a peace treaty. China offers an RoP and alliance against persia, we trade WMs instead.

7) 1475 Persia and Rome have signed a peace treaty. China and England have signed an MPP.

8) 1480 FP comes online.

9) 1485 MMOW

10) 1490 Universal Sufferage completed.
Japan and England have signed a military alliance against Persia.

11) 1495 MMOW
China declares war on the Romans.

12) 1500 MMOW

Mass Production next turn, after that we can go for flight, radio, or motorized transportation (TANKS!!!!). Japan is at war with Persia and Rome, but just recently switched back to monoarchy. They owned a couple of Roman cities (Jerusalem and Tarentum) but Rome took them back. Japan keeps sending fleets there. Hopefully that will keep them busy while we build up a military force. Hoover Dam comes online next turn. I didn't want to switch to democracy until we got it, but it probably would have been safe, there were no cascades from Universal Sufferage.

Are military is weak, I was trying to concentrate on our production base to fix that. No idea why we didn't have granaries, but I did start building them, along with universities in many cities. We may have a paper thin defence right now, but there is one bright spot. :D We can out produce everyone right now. :goodjob:

Pre-turn:
The world is a mess - Let them all fight, while we become an industrial powerhouse.
Review our troops - upgrade our stray spearman, pikeman, musketeers, and knights to modern troops.
No brainer - begin research on tanks.
[dance] We get Hoover - the biggie. Major production boast coming.
We never had our Golden age - It begins!
I don't think I have ever played a SG and gotten the full 20 turns before.

1510 AD - I love golden ages - a factory in 9 turns.
India and England sign an alliance vs. Rome.
1520 AD - The mess continues - India and England sign an alliance against Persia.
1530 AD - Tanks are available - Flight being researched.
Intelligence agency completed.
1540 AD - Here come the tanks - 1 a turn out of Paris during the GA.
1550 AD - Peace treaty between England and Persia.
Flight researched - begining Radio.
Palace expansion.
1565 AD - Somebody got screwed - We get a new coal source.
Battlefield medicine is completed.
1590 AD - Begin research on fission.
Another Palace expansion.

Summary - I wasn't going to go through a GA in Anarchy.
REVOLT to Democracy when the GA ends.
Most of our workers are fortified, as no terrain left to improve!

We are in the driver's seat now.
Our cities are running out of improvements to build

We know are building up a large military.
You need to plan for the UN placeholder shortly.

Still to work on - Thrawn, B2

1600 AD: Purchase Amphibious Warfare from India for 110 gold. India and Persia reach a peace agreement. Our Golden Age ends and France dissolves into a state of anarchy.

1605 AD: The anarchy will last for 5 turns. Japan and India sign a MPP. Persia and India ally against Rome.

1615 AD: China and Rome reach a peace agreement.

1625 AD: Japan asks for our help in their war against Persia; we decline and offer them our world map. The state of anarchy has ended a new democracy is installed.

1640 AD: We discover a new source of oil.

1645 AD: Japan and China ally against the Persians. Japan is caught trying to plant a spy in our capital.

1650 AD: India and Rome reach a peace agreement.

1655 AD: We have lost our spices! We trade wines, dyes and 20 gold to England for spices. The people expand our palace!

1660 AD: Persia and Rome reach a peace agreement. England and Japan ally against the Persians.

1670 AD: Rome and England reach a peace agreement.

1675 AD: We sell horses to the Persians for their world map and 200 gold.

1680 AD: India and Japan ally against Persia. Our research of Fission is complete and we begin researching Computers.

1685 AD: The construction of the United Nations has begun in Rheims and it will be completed in turns.

1690 AD: Swap world maps with Rome.

I spent most of my time working on infrastructure, only research labs and a few police stations are left to be built in the north and the south is progressing nicely, and building a nice collection of tanks. I should have probably added some more naval and infantry units but I just like tanks. If we decide that war with Japan is an option, then I would probably build some more bombers or artillerly but for the most part we should have a pretty good attack force. I think we can win this game via peaceful means but Japan and England still have too much influence for us to pull off a UN victory, though I could be wrong on that. Our reasearch has gone slowly but the next leader should look into building research labs and messing with the research rates. We can afford to run at a loss but there is something comforting about knowing that we nearly have more money than the rest of the world. This game is heading along very nicely and whether we choose to remain peaceful or to rid ourselves of Japan, everything should work out nicely.

Preturn:
Wow a lot has happened since my last turn. Why is our leader bald?

1705:
We lose our supply of Furs. Rome wants Wine, Rubber and Fission. Guess they don't want Rubber any more ;)

1710:
3 turns to UN.. Can we win a Diplo victory? Probably, but what is the fun of that? ;)

1715:
Persia wants Rubber and Iron for Gems. Sure, why not? I don't want to lose more luxuries.

India and Japan sign a military alliance against Rome.

1720 AD:
Bombers and fighters moved down to Zulu lands.. Close to the core Japanese cities ;)

1725:

We build the UN!

Some creative bribing goes a long way to ensure the vote goes our way :)

We Win!

Well, not bad, Diplomatic win on Monarch in 1725! Of course, the Diplo win is the most boring.. Do you guys want to play to another victory type? I'll post the game and you decide.
