LK163 - AWM, India

Preturn: Units need healing
Early: Units healing so no forward movement.
Mid: Lose a HorseArcher vs Spear and then 3 regular Archer vs Archer. Ugh.
Turkish Archers can targe us so we lose an Archer while killing one.
Late: Our stack gets attacked, the Archers can pick off other Archers. However, we are a Volcano so we have some defense.
Stopped at turn 140.
Notes:
We have 4 more Archer to move forward onto the Volcano for attacking the Capital. That would mean moving forward next to the capital the turn after next. Note that the movement in the mountains without river crossing is terribly slow.

We have 4 more Archer to move forward onto the Volcano for attacking the Capital.
What about our horses? Same attack factor, can’t be hit by archers, and get to the front faster. I know I was building all horses for offensive for that reason.

Wow - I didn’t think it would take that long to heal up and get a stack ready. We are moving so slowly versus just Turkey. We need to kill another enemy before to many other civs find us.

I see our next settler is sitting in the capital. Please send it to the spear, next to the deer. Also, please move some workers there to start irrigating. This city will be a powerhouse with all those hills.

Nice to see a decent cash reserve. We will be able to afford deficit spending for tech.

Can we switch Uskudar to admin center? The corruption is pretty high.
Bombay wants an admin center now. Working another hill gives is 46 - 2 shields to corruption. Saving 1 shield should give 1 turn elephants.

We are about to learn Philosophy. I have us scheduled to start on Religion next. This will allow us to build the School of Divinity. Besides getting Priests it acts as a barracks.

Instead of Religion, we might want to learn Trade → The Republic. Republic lets us build Colosseums and Gupta Cataphracts which can be upgraded to Indian Knights when we learn Chivalry.

Cataphracts have the same cost to build as War Elephants. They have the same stats as War Elephants build lack the extra Hit point and Blitz ability. War Elephants first up grade is to Hussars (need Absolutism).

Aydin has started building a Desert Fort (acts as a barracks). When the land around Ayden gets improved, Ayden should be a good production city.

Bombay’s fat cross is almost fully developed. What I had intended to do next turn was move workers/slaves from the small stack southwest of Bombay to the stack of workers/slaves southeast of Bombay and finish the mine. That will free up many workers/ slaves.

Here is the core of our empire:

Good riddance to Turkey. Glad to see a second dead civ. As a bonus we now have gems as a resource. I caught a second bonus of desert fort for more free units. :)

Can we switch Iznik to walls? After that, it also badly needs an admin center. I can’t believe how bad the corruption in former Turkey is.

Don’t forget supply center gems in Istanbul. Those $25 supply shipments help us right now.

Can we reverse direction for the exploring warrior far east? I suspect the nearest civ is in the grasslands west of its position.

Turnset:

Pre-turn:
Things are looking pretty good. I'm a little nervous about the stack of French chariots near Aydin, but hopefully we have enough troops on hand.

IBT: More French show up near Aydin.

1300 AD: 4 HA nearly wipe out the French Chariot stack.
WE kills another Chariot

I switch Iznik to Walls and Istanbul to SupplyCenter: Gems, as requested. This might be overcautious; the Turkish lands are only accessible by 1) boat or 2) the Uskadar road.

IBT: Chariot suicides on WE.
Brazil shows up with two chariots near Aydin.
Brazil is working on Hanseatic League.
China completes Great Wall.

1310 AD: Sydney is cranky; hire a scientist.
HA kills Chariot
WE suicides on Archer.

1320 AD: Cat kills Archer
Enslaver dies :wallbash:
Enslaver captures Cat crew.
Enslaver captures Ballista crew.
WE runs over Ballista.

IBT: Ballista suicides on our WE.

1330 AD: Two HA skewer Chariots next to Aydin.

IBT: A big French stack moves onto the hills NW of Aydin.

1340 AD: Cat narrowly kills Spear
WE tramples Spear x4
HA retreats
HA dies
Ratja retreats
Ratha kills Spear
HA kills Spear
rHA dies
eHA dies :wallbash:

Our exploring Warrior spots red borders, right where LK predicted :goodjob:

The enemy still has more live units than we have attackers...let's hope next turn is fruitful!

IBT: Brazilian Tamoyo kills one of our Spears.

1350 AD: At Adyin,
WE tramples Archer.
Ratha kills Archer.
WE kills Spear.
Enslaver dies to Archer :wallbash:
rHA kills Archer.
Enslaver kills wounded Archer.
Catapult dies vs. Archer :wallbash:
Enslaver ALSO dies vs. Archer :wallbash:

The next IBT is not going to be pretty. The AI has 10 attackers at Aydin, and we only have heavily wounded units left.

In the desert, Enslaver kills stray Tamoyo.
Sci slider to 20%, Religion due in 1.

IBT: French attack in the open (across a river):
Cat suicides on WE
Archer suicides on Spear
Archer skewers WE
Archer dies to Spear
Archer finishes off the Spear
Cat murders our Ballista
XB crushes Ratha

Behind city walls...
Catapult dies to spear
XB dies to WE and generates a Leader for us!

Religion > Trade

1360 AD:
WE kills stray Spear

Aydin:
HA kills Siege XB
HA kills Archer
Ratha rides down Archer.
WE crushes cat
Ratha rides down redlined Spear

Slider to 40%; Trade due in 4.

IBT:

Chariot dies to WE
Another unit (I didn't quite make out which) dies to WE
French Chariot runs down our Jungle warrior in the north.
Brazilian Chariot dies to WE
...Cat kills WE
...Chariot kills WE
...two more Chariots kill Spears.

Ouch!

1370 AD (T160):

HA barely kills Chariot
Rathas are WAY better than Chariots!
HA kills Chariot
WE retreats
WE kills Spear
HA kills Chariot
Ratha retreats
WE retreats!

WE crushes Cat

Our defense is holding. It's been costly at times, but I think we can start pushing N in this next turnset.

We got a Clan last turn, so we should talk about where it goes.

Brazil seems to be N-ish of Old Australia; France seems to be N of Aydin.

Edrine switches to admin center. The corruption is pretty high.

Max science won’t speed up trade. I continue to run at a high cash surplus.

1380 AD (1)
Iznik gets the most expensive rush possible of an academy.
I see some Brazilian units approaching Aydin.

I kill France: 1 archer. (1-0)
(IT) School of Divinity is completed.
The Germans are building Sacred Music. We are at least 9 techs behind Germany.

1390 AD (2)
(IT) The next tech to research is republic. We can complete it in 4 turns staying cash positive.
Delhi starts supply center ivory. 50% tax boost in the capitol will help.

1400 AD (3)
Twin Peaks is founded. There is some overlap with nearby cities. However, it claims 7 unused bonus grassland tiles along with 2 mountains. This area was mentioned in somebody’s previous post.

1410 AD (4)
I’ve now spotted Austria-Hungary units nothing of Aydin.

I kill Brazil: 1 catapult and 1 medieval catapult. (3-0)
(IT) I killed 1 Austria mounted unit, but then lost our exploring horse archer. (4-1)

1420 AD (5)
Those annoying French warriors finally move to a spot where I can attack them.
I had to deal with a lone chariot landing by Brazil near Squealing pigs.

I killed France: 2 warriors and 1 archer. (7-1)
I killed Brazil: 1 chariot, 1 spear and 1 Tamoio. (9-1)
(IT) A French knight killed an elephant. (9-2)
France is at least up to chivalry.

1430 AD (6)
(IT) The AIs are fighting some. Some type of priest unit hit an AI unit.
We can also research naval warfare cash positive. At some point we will use up our cash reserves.
An elephant killed an attacking unit. I’m not sure what. (10-2)

1440 AD (7)
The terrain about Aydin is a killer. I’m working on getting roads in the area to give us more mobility.
(IT) Dessert Fort is completed. We now have a barracks near the front lines.

1450 AD (8)
I kill France: 1 spear and 1 medieval catapult. (12-2)
I kill Austria: 1 warrior, 1 archer and 1 spear. (15-2)

1460 AD (9)
I kill France: 1 spear. (16-2)
I kill Austria: 1 warrior. (17-2)
(IT) Scandinavia wants to walk.
Our Ratha beat some type of holy man. (18-2)

1470 AD (10)
I kill France: 1 spear. (19-2)
I lost: 1 elephant. (19-3)

There is a stray warrior near Iznik. I’ve started an elephant that way to keep our standby for these types of incursions.
Things are calming down area Aydin.

Elephant row is moving up the hills trying to location the nearest AI city. There is a stack of workers underneath laying 1 road a turn. We need the road movement if we want to make progress up north.

We could use some of our cash reserves to upgrade all Veteran Horsemen and Horsearchers to Gupta Cataphracts.

Something a bit off in the Civopedia. Elephants and Horse Archer have the same movement listed in the Civopedia, but Horse Archer can move 2 through Desert while Elephants (and Ratha) cannot. Shouldn't HorseArcher list desert as a movement terrain (Cavalry does for example). Note that some kinds of Knights also are not correct so there may be several units that aren't right.

Preturn: Switched one town to Elephant.

IBT: Spotted a Knight from France.

1480 AD: Kill Knight, Spear, and Longbow. France has another knight that can kill one of our units. Lost an Elephant to a Gaellic Warrior.

IBT: Lose Horse Archer

1490 AD: Kill Knight. Kill Medieval Catapult. (Note I may have messed up the years somewhere as I had one extra between 1500 and 1510. I made a guess.)

IBT: Elephant survived a MDI attack.

1500 AD: Kill a Siege-Bow. We have reach the French border. We are left open to a Longbow attack but can't advance otherwise. Still sticking to the hills.
Horse Archers that are injured go back and upgrade instead of Heal.

1510 AD: Longbow decides not to attack us on a hill. They are only Attack 3, so it makes sense.
There is a boat wandering around which might have units so coastal towns get an Elephant.

1520 AD: I have spotted Orleans. And move to attack next turn. I also messed up the years somehow. Spotted an Elephant but relying on the hills for defense. It has even odds however.
Killed a Brazil-Portugal 2-1 Archer unit. Some are wandering around our hills.

IBT: We win the Elephant Duel.

1530 AD: Attack Orleans and capture the city. We split forces to check for other cities.
Start building Catapult Ships in the town under Bomardment. The idea that when AI ships take a point of Damage from Bombardment they go back and heal If they have to go far for healing, the bombardment stops and we gain Ocean Supremacy to stop landings. We can build them quickly, so I am building some.
Spotted some Incense in the mountains. I think that is strategic (civopedia) so we don't really need it. If it was Lux it may have been worth a road.

IBT: A longbow attacked and an Elephant retreated.
Riot in Orleans - a good sign as we suppressed all resistors in one turn.

1540 AD: Tours turns out to be very close so we are able to capture it.

We are negative money since I have been building Elephants (forward progress before the AI gets even better defense) while we can still do max tech speed. I switch to Market places so we have will make less units and more money for a while.

1550 AD: Found Paris. Not sure if we have enough to take it.
Lower science to get Dark Ages next turn.

IBT: Win Elephant vs Longbow. Get School of Navigators.

1560 AD: Find Chartres next to Iron. It would be nice if France lost the ability to build Pikes.

We are now at war with Magreb after spotting one of their units and killing it.

Decide to attack Paris. We kill the Defenders but Archers still hold the city.

1570 AD: Paris now has a Musketeer on top. I kill that and 2 Archers but they now have a Bombard.
Chartres goes better and we capture the city.

Notes:
I moved more units next to Paris but some were down a Hitpoint. They still have defensive bombardment units in the city plus will build a Musket. If Paris still doesn't fall, then 9 more units can be moved to attack the turn after, which should definitely do it.

LK163_AD1570.png

Financially we are doing much better and can go back to units. I think we are nearly close enough to Feudalism. In 2 turns, if we switched from Elephants to Cataphract, they would arrive in Ayden to upgrade to Knights when we get Chivalry 7 turns from now (i.e.takes around 5 turns from capital to Ayden - some might wait a turn or two).

There was a Germanic warrior in the mountains somewhere so be careful with the workers. They need to finish the road before we can cover them.

When we have 5-6 Catpult Ships I think we can stop building them. Eventually enough to redline and then have one attack and kill can handle them if they come one at a time.

Our own Warrior is not positioned to see incoming Germanic Warriors which can pass through the mountains.

We got a clan. I was thinking about the red dot with two fish. With a port and the forest for shields it seem better than most nearby options. It can at least work a lot of ocean for more shields/science than most of our other cities.
