LK174, Civ=America, CCM3, True American Democracy

Agreed on sending Spears N to cover Enslavers. The next 5 turns should help in that respect quite a bit. GA + Early Barracks is a nice combination for rapid troop buildup.

Was going to start playing but realized we get 'Capitol Ships' from statue of liberty. That sounds too powerful for this age (could potentially crash if ship type was age based)

Will play a bit later for responses but I am strongly considering to switch to constitution which gives the happiness part.

I feel we should be required to have the prerequisite techs for Democracy before we build statue of liberty.
Edit: or one of the other tech for capital ships?

Didn't even look what SoL did with this variant. I agree that will distort the sea battles to much.
I vote to switch to constitution.

I don't agree. I just looked at the save -- what the SoL gives us is the resource 'Capital Ships', not autoproduced steam battleships. I don't think it'll be a problem.

@Civinator - Can you comment on what the raw resource enables?

:yup:Yes, this is correct. Predreadnoughts, Dreadnoughts and Battleships can only be normally constructed in the cities where one of those buildings is placed. Other coastal cities cannot build these types of ships. Sometimes I am wondering if it is a waste of my time to write all these things in the civilopedia.

Edit: O.k. In the dummy entry for the Statue of Liberty in the techbox, that was written before virtual resources were possible with C3X, the line about that virtual resource should be added, too.

From what I can see in a quick look at the .biq file, a Prerequisite for building those ships is knowing the tech. e.g To build a Dreadnought or super Dreadnought, we would need to learn the Tech Dreadnought. So even if NYC currently has the Capital Ship Resource it could not build a Capital ship because it does not know the tech associated with the Ship. Just like if when we get access to uranium we cannot build nuclear weapons.

Therefore, I don't see any problem to completing the build. If I am wrong we could just agree not to build a ship we don't have the tech for.

Based on all the above comments, I reverse my position. SoL okay to build.

Actual, I just tested it out by hitting enter 3 times, NYC builds the State of Liberty and cannot build any new ships.

May be I should rename that virtual resource to "Capital Ships Building".

An extra word like building does help. "Capital Ships Dockyard" works as well.

Note that the wording was good enough for me to know to stop the game and ask rather than just cancelling the statue of liberty. It is also not an issue normal games will encounter.

I think all civilizations with the Seafaring trait should have the Capital Ship resource included in its Unique Wonder.

There are some seafaring civs in era 1 that have no advantage from such a setting, triggered by their GA-wonder, as in era1 no ships, that need such a resource, are existing.

But they would have it available when they learn the appropriate tech in later eras.

Preturn: Looks fine.

Early: Build Statue of Liberace. Ooh, what an error!
Two recommended towns Buffalo and River Valley are built.

Decide to try the Circus Maximus which if we get is another settler. May become Constitution as it is in 8 turns.

We got Pikes. Start research on Medieval Combat at 10% as the GL may not give us that tech (in 11)

Sending units toward Brittain. We are strong. I do want a roads and Pike defenders so not started yet.

Mid:
Lose a Horse to invisible unit. On our turn, both Vet and Elite Slavers attack and lose. Germany gets a Monk.

Late: We get Chivalry on the final turn and a final tech Alchemy from the Great Lib
Put Boston on Philosopher's stone (NY is finishing the Circus Maximus in 1) as it has no Barracks. Note GA will end so should take longer than 9 listed turns. Feel free to switch if you want NY to build.

Upgrade attack force for Brittain to American Knights.

Note:
We can declare war next turn and move the stack near New Castle and the 13 Knights in San Fran into Brittish Territory for capturing New Castle next turn. Note that I started toward Coventry first but it was size 1, so extended road to New Castle instead. Coventry is now size 2 so could be the target instead.

Heroic Epic went into capital as it needs the shields to build capital only buildings.

Raised science to 20% to get the Medieval Infantry tech a turn sooner.

Built Northern crab and we are completing the port to grow quicker. May want to (later) rush academy and Market as it is shield poor but gold rich with crab + coastal squares. Keep the growth high and it can be one of our top science/gold towns.

We already got another clan which I updated to settler. I assume North of River Valley is next (red on Joe's image).

Here is a map of the upcoming Brittish war. The yellow circle seems to be very likely a town - I think square the yellow line points to strongly indicates this, but this is also based on previous borders before Coventry.

Wow, our enslaver luck continues to suck. I agree with the idea of razing some large UK cities for the workers.

It looks like our next trading challenge is to find the unknown continents.

We are glutted in cash, so keep looking for cash rush opportunities.

All those extra settlers are paying off. We have 12 cities, and the close AI is 9.
