Update 12
Year 1917
Global News:
WORLD AT WAR: Five years after the end of the first world war, the world once again is in a fierce battle. All continents are in the war, most nations are directly or indirectly affecting the war effort. By many this is not seen as the second world war, but merely a continuation of the first. It has proven true that the world is calling this the Continuation War.
Europe:
CITY OF NAPLES CAPTURED BY ITALIAN FORCES: Venice, Italy: French and Italian forces have over whelmed the defenses north of Naples with a large scale offensive. Heavy use of artillery, airships and new armored cars have broken up much of the slower movements on the Italian Front. More British and Commonwealth armies arrive in time to save Naples from total collapse. The lines have been redrawn for now.
CASUALTY LIST:
France: 4 Divisions
Italy: 5 Divisions, 1 Artillery Brigade
Naples: 6 Divisions, 1 Artillery Brigade
Britain: 2 Divisions
Plate: 1 Division
Australasia: 1 Division
BRITISH LANDINGS IN MEDITERRANEAN: Ajaccio, Corsica: With the French fleet still hiding and backing down from open sea combat with the British, the Royal Marines made several landings on island holdings throughout the French occupied Mediterranean. With little more than local militias to stop them they took hold and control fairly easily. Allowing the British fleet closer harbors to strike out at the French Empire.
CASUALTY LIST:
1 British Marine Division
FRENCH AND SPANISH FORCES OCCUPY GIBRALTAR: Madrid, Spain: With French troops supporting and defending them, the Spanish army has attacked the British enclave, leaving it defeated as the British withdraw troops to Sicily. It is seen as a great victory over the British (with no casualties), and a step towards cutting their fleet off from the outside.
RHINELAND’S DECISION: Frankfurt, Rhenish Confederacy: With the French empire overstretched and the long standing hatred of the Bonaparte dynasty still in the minds of the Rhenish, who would rather associate themselves with the Germans than the French. A deal was struck with the British, assist in a landing in the Netherlands and gain independence from Napoleon V. With a large sum of money and various technological examples at their disposal, when the British landing in the somewhat under guarded Netherlands came, so did the Rhenish. In the months prior to the landing, the Rhenish had secretly begun building up fortified bunkers and other fortifications on the Rhine. Preparing to defend themselves. With the people behind the decision and the Prussian Union backing them, the troops pushed north to link up with the British. It is a success. Napoleon V, angry but not stupid, fortifies the Rhine and keeps troops behind the lines in fear of another British landing attempt.
CASUALTY LIST:
French Empire: 2 Divisions
Britain: 1 Division
SWEDEN INVADES BRITISH NORWAY: Oslo, British Norway: In a move considered by many to be as foolish as the invasion of Finland, the Swedish government, with information of a highly open moment to attack and the promise of once again ruling all of Scandinavia, invades southern Norway. The invasion commenced with light fighting between the single British division and the large Swedish invasion force. The combat did not last long before the British troops surrendered in fear of being completely destroyed. Now the lands have been occupied and the Swedish have sent a diplomat to Britain, demanding the ceding of Norway.
CASUALTY LIST:
Britain: 1 Division (Surrendered)
ROMANIA INVADES SERBIA: Bucharest, Romania: The superior armed forces of Romania have begun a campaign of conquest against Serbia. The early battles were short and highly favorable towards Romania. Whom has the technological advantage and artillery superiority. The liens have briefly stalled passed Belgrade with sheer numbers of Serbian troops holding the lines.
CASUALTY LIST:
Romania: 4 Divisions, 1 Cavalry Division
Serbia: 6 Divisions, 2 Militia Divisions
DENMARK ELECTIONS RIGGED: Copenhagen, Denmark: The Reform party wins the end of year elections while the other major parties seem to drop out entirely, giving the Socialist and Fascist parties a chance to shine. Many are looking at the Reform party and wondering if they will be the next dictatorship in Europe.
Americas:
LATINO COMMUNIST PROTEST IN AMERICAN-MEXICAN BORDER TOWN: Washington DC, USA: A Latino protest on the border of the two nations about the Mexican interference in Costa Rica and Nicaragua ends in violence as federal troops are called in to break up the communist rally. One of the protestors through a homemade bomb at a civilian automobile in the ecstasy of the crowd. Leading to the Burnett-Johnson Act of 1917. Requiring, says President Johnson, that all communists must register with the government and that all communists will be investigated to prevents further problems from arising.
MEXICO ANNEXES COSTA RICA AND NICARAGUA: Mexico City, Mexico: With the communists majority not allowed to vote on the issue, the remaining voters in the two countries voted to join Mexico, to prevent further problems with the corrupt governments and party leaders for the Workers Party. (+3 IC Mexico)
CUBA INVADED BY MEXICO: Havana, Cuba: The Mexican president released a radio address to his nation, confirming the invasion and the motive behind it. To end communism in the Americas before it spreads to far. The invasion was a slow and resource heavy one, dragging down the Mexican army as the Cubans setup militias and fought tooth and nail to protect their homeland. Eventually they broke, albeit a few groups remain in the hills fighting a losing war.
CASUALTY LIST:
Cuba: 8 Divisions, 1 Artillery Brigade (Captured and Destroyed), 1 Militia Division
Mexico: 3 Divisions
SOUTH AMERICAN FRONT: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Orders from both alliance arrived in time for the war to start. A preemptive attack from the slightly better trained and equipped armies of the Dominion of the Plate into southern Brazil was stalled barely behind the border when the much larger Brazilian army came into contact with them. Unlike Europe there are few trenches, most of the warfare is a game of movement and as such the territorial gains by either side are few. Plate air superiority proves effective in keeping the enemy troops on the move and spotting their locations. Brand new fighter squadrons and machine guns chew through the numbers of Brazil but the war is far from won. At sea the to navies clash, Plate backed up with a large task force from Britain easily outnumber and outclass the Brazilian fleet, however the submarines used by Brazil are able to cause severe damage to the enemy, sinking the dominions only Goliath Battleship.
CASUALTY LIST:
Brazil: 11 Divisions, 1 Artillery Brigade, 2 Battleships, 2 Escort Groups, 1 Submarine, 4 Light Vessel Groups
Plate: 6 Divisions, 1 Artillery Brigade, 1 Goliath Battleship, 1 Escort Group, 2 Light Vessel Groups
Britain: 2 Battleships, 2 Escort Groups, 6 Light Vessel Groups
Africa/Middle East:
BRITISH LAUNCH AFRICAN CAMPAIGN: London, Britain: With the plan to cut the French supply routes into Africa working, the British colonial troops make thrusts into the French empire from several directions and without much problem, only in Egypt did the French have any form of true defense. The Nile was defended by a couple French divisions whom put up a fight but were ultimately forced to retreat.
CASUALTY LIST:
Britain: 2 Divisions
France: 2 Divisions
ARABIA NOW FULLY A PART OF THE CALIPH: Damascus, Caliph: The British have turned over territories they deemed undependable to the Caliph in return for what many are thinking to be the beginning of the Caliphs joining into the war, however, this did not come in 1917. Hashemite Arabia pledge allegiance to the Caliph in fear of growing Russia and possible French aggression. The transaction of lands and military have gone smoothly. The local Muslims view this as the new golden age of Islam.
PERSIA ANNEXED BY RUSSIA: Tehran, Russia: With brute force the Tsar has secured Persia for his empire, gaining the economic benefits from it to boot. (+3 IC RUSSIA)
Asia:
HAWAII TRADED TO USA: London, Britain: For security in the Pacific, in the form of a defensive pact against the Japanese, the British have turned the territory of Hawaii over to the United States.
JAPAN INVADES BRITISH INDONESIA: Tokyo, Japan: A large marine invasion force has invaded various locations throughout British territory in Indonesia. With the British removing a portion of the defense force many of the large cities fall to the Japanese Imperial army. Vietnam and China have yet to join the war. The British fleet has returned to India to reorganize and keep the seas and trade of India under British control.
CASUALTY LIST:
Japan: 4 Marine Divisions, 3 Infantry Divisions, 1 Artillery Brigade
Britain: 6 Divisions
Australasia: 2 Divisions
