OK, I have what feels like a really stupid question. When I try to play Civ IV in windowed mode on my MacBook, the screen gets set so that the white menu par at the top of the screen is actually covering some of the information I need, such as the icon to click on for the civiliopedia. Is there a way to reset this, or am I stuck in full-screen mode only?

As Welnic says, windowed mode on a single screen requires a smaller resolution than the screen.

IMHO, windowed mode runs sweetest if you have a second monitor. You can then run at full resolution on the secondary screen, which has no menu bar, while still using your primary for other things.

The current MacBook has an external display adapter, and Macs generally have a choice of mirrored or non-mirrored display options if they have a second screen interface. I don't have a MacBook, so I don't know if that's an exception.

EDIT: From the Apple Store description of the current MacBook, under 'Adapters':

You can use an external display or projector as your main workspace with your MacBook's lid closed, as an extension of your MacBook's built-in display, or as a mirror of your MacBook's screen while presenting to a group.

i have an ibook, and i am unable to change the resolution under civ iv preferences. it is stuck at 1240 x 760
