Make America Nazi-Free Again

Nobody is complaining about the fact that you kill Nazis in Wolfenstein 2.

Well no, that's not entirely true, there were some people who complained about the plot, and they're of course whiny hypocrites, but the outrage that is being talked about in this thread is over the fact that Bethesda is blurring the line between current real-world politics and the historical nazis as they exist (in a heavily fictionalized version of course) in the Wolfenstein series on their official social media accounts.

I'm sure you understand that, right?

It's the equivalent to somebody posting with the official Civ account a picture of a city in Civ5 that is in resistance, and surrounded by soldiers and tweeting something like: "#MakeBerkeleyAnarchistFreeAgain It's time for action now. Communist Lives don't matter."

I think you are reading altogether too much into a hashtag.

What do you even mean by that?

"#MakeAmericaNaziFreeAgain" (Make America Great Again), "Not My America" (Not My President), "#NoMoreNazis" (a hashtag that has been used actively for months)... it's obvious as day that they're playing around with real-life political hashtags and slogans while promoting the game. And hey... honestly? Whatever. As long as that nonsense is not part of the game, fine. It's probably even a good idea to push the game into the public discourse.

Obviously I'm not saying they're endorsing the killing of real-life Nazis in America, but it's a conclusion that you can draw from the way they're marketing the game. That's just what happens when you build your marketing on real-life events that have a very different scope from those in your game.

The new game had better have a Mecha-Hitler.

Story is a bit of a laugh don't take it so serious
It dose highlight how partisan politics has become, and well welcome to "post truth" America

This wasn't valuable the first time around in the other thread.
It isn't now.

It is in fact particularly unhelpful, because Vice are terrible hacks, because the video is saying what you people claimed, without basis, for the last 24 months, a span of time in which you people have lost the farm, all ze money, your dignity, and then some while everybody in continental Europe has held the line, even bloody Austria.

Maybe your entire narrative in bunk and you're not that smart and you are living in a bubble of your own allmost as bad as FoxNews.
And maybe we didn't need an 47th thread about Anglosphere liberals being too dumb for politics.
Or for liberalism for that matter.
I would like to give you a further more panoramic view on how dumb all of this actually is, and how you are not helping.

So, i did't know anything about this edgelord dude in the video. I thought i didn't, anyway.
But while i watched the video he irritated me more than this useless redfashy c-word.
I didn't know why. I hated this dude and i felt like i remembered him. And for a reason better than him being vaguely right-wing (which in my book warrants contempt, loathing in egregious cases, but not exactly hate).

So today i found out why by way of finding out who he is and what he does. We'll get to that in the end.

I want to give you the amassed absurdity of my open tabs right now, SJW delusion cast in amber if you will:
  • In one tab i am looking at the assorted accomplishments of one Ms. Dorsa Derakhshani
Ms. Derakhshani plays chess. She's an FM, IM and WGM, although her elo strikes me as low for an IM. Not the point, i'm sure she's deadly enough.
  • I am looking at this because she is in some sort of process to switch her chess allegience and probably her citizenship from Iranian to USian, largely because she has gotten into recurring business with Iranian officials about not wearing some sort of headgear at international tournaments, which came to a head this year in Gibraltar, which few people noticed (me neither) because Hou Yifan.
(For the record, file me as team Hou, because, you know, she's kinda wrong but also awesome).
  • Anywho in the next tab we have the reason i learned about Ms. Derakhshani.
A dude by the name of Paul Joseph Watson wanted to inform everyone dumb enough to regularly use twitter (i don't and i also never had a facebook account) about the above event.
Mr. Watson (some stubbly hipster who didn't get the Snow part on GoT) is, and i quote:
"Infowars editor-at-large. 'Nativist polemicist' - NY Times (actually a classical liberal/libertarian)"
(I could go into a whole sidebar thing here about Reza Aslan being a hack and a liar and a fraud and about chess playing minors and FGM in Malaysia and the unending violent hypocricy of the media your kind consumes, but that's a) neither here nor there and b) not in my open tabs right now)
  • In the next tab we have the reason for me looking at a tweet of such an unworthy person as Mr. Watson. His tweet, by way of twitter-mechanics i don't understand featured on the twitter-page of one Ms. Shauna Ghofranian aka ShaunaGee.
ShaunaGee has about 5k followers and all sorts of girly interests; and she apparently likes Trump and so people like Mr. Watson end up on her Twitter thingy.
In case you don't know who she is...
  • [new tab]...she is the lady in this picture.
And there it hit me, by way of conservative nuclear family disgustingness.
  • 'We are skipping various tabs now about Cernovich before he was famous...
  • ...and arrive at a tab that i won't decribe in any detail - for reasons - that also shows why i remembered him.
Cernovich got to alt-right trolldom by way of Gamergate, but i had been aware of him and managed to forget way before that.
Because originally he's a sworn blood enemy:
Mike Cernovich is a PUA who got bored and decided to make money off you.
Well, i also have a bunch of tabs open on the infinite suckage of Australian soccer, but that's a matter for another thread.

Anyway...
... 1) these people have a very odd concept of how white supremacy and muslim-banning work.
Well, maybe they take "aryan" too literally.
... 2) if you had yielded and given evul MRA's loads of power, Cernovich probably would be in prison now, hammering away on some boulder, taking turns at that task with Amanda Marcotte and that cleric who claims gayness makes hurricanes.
Just saying.

The same group offended by this is the same group that views a major world religion as a violent ideology that should be banned. They're propping up and identifying with an actually violent genocidal ideology as a valid viewpoint supported by the first amendment. The cognitive dissonance here is mind blowing.

A viewpoint doesn't have to be valid to be supported by the First Amendment. That's kinda the point of the First Amendment. Just wanted to point that out.

Advocating genocide is inciting violence which isn't covered by the first amendment.

Nah, they've gotten pretty clever about advocating for genocide without actually advocating genocide in order to stay protected by the First Amendment. Remember: Nazis have lawyers too.

What a ridiculously pointless nitpick.

The problem I'm having with this is there are people on the right who feel like this is a political attack on them because the "alt-right" votes and identifies with them. Remember Inglorious Basterds? In that movie they carved a swastika in the foreheads of survivors because they could take their uniforms off but could never remove the scars implying that it'd be a mark of shame to be known as a Nazi. Now it's suddenly not shameful? Now there are people upset about Wolfenstein because it got political against Nazis? Political tribalism is hitting peak stupidity.

Not exactly. They are Nazis, it's only natural for them to be offended.

If you don't actively support the mutilation, killing and corpse desecration of nazis, then you are a nazi.

Inglorious Basterds is a film that is about fictionalized Nazis who actually fight a war for the regime and kill people.
Wolfenstein is game where you fight people who themselves fight for the fictionalized Nazi regime.

Wolfenstein's Media Campaign is ambiguous commentary on real life politics that can be understood as a call to kill the people whose crime is to have repugnant thoughts.
