Got your back! :)
Alrighty, I asked a question about how to apply mascara in "The questions-not-worth-their-own-threat Question Thread" and it ended up turning into a small discussion of sorts about how we felt about makeup.

I think it looks nice.

That's the thing that gets me wearing makeup sometimes too. Funny thing is, the guys usually don't like it.

My honest opinion is that make-up was invented for a reason. It accentuates features that for whatever reason appear attractive, and foundation smooths over pockmarks that aren't.

It's all good, and I don't understand the way that some boys and a lot of girls (around here) say that make-up makes you look like a slut and that 'natural beauty' is what counts. That's a load of balls to me. The girls are just jealous that you look more attractive just because you put some effort in, and the guys are just parroting what they've heard their girlfriends say.

Or maybe I'm just odd in liking make-up.

You can spend a lot of time putting effort into your looks without makeup. One of my girlfriends spent about a half an hour every morning with facial exfoliators, scrubs, moisturizers, cremes, all types of stuff I can hardly even spell. And I think that alone makes a girl look fine without having to put a lot of make-up on.

So what is your opinion about it?

I personally like it as long as it isn't over-done.

It can be done but I would prefer someone who looks good without it.

Good or bad? We usually need some kind of definition of those two words before we can start a discussion about it.

As far as body image for women is concerned, I think make up is good because it gives them greater self-confidence and self-esteem.

My opinion is the final quote, which was mine. If you invest time in products to keep your skin fresh, clean, and well toned then you should be able to keep makeup to a minimum.

If I can wake-up next to a girl and think that she looks pretty, there's no reason for me to think she should do anything extra for being around other people.

Putting a lot of makeup looks ugly. It's not a matter of looking slutty, it's a matter of looking ugly. It screams of grandmas. IF you're already ugly, putting a crapload of makeup on won't make you one iota less ugly. And if you're already pretty, it's better to not put makeup on in the first place. This has nothing to do with "girlfriends" either, this is a matter of aesthetics.

Skin care is a different matter, but being too "perfect" up to the point where it looks completely artificial and plastic is creepy as well.

In general, I am in favour of make-up.

As I said in the other thread, it really depends on what "look" you're after, and how good you are at getting that look.

Nope, ugly girls benefit from makeup.

Pretty girls also benefit from makeup.

Make up can enhance the appearance of pretty much every none-disfigured girl.

Ugly girls with makeup are still ugly.

Pretty girls with a lot of makeup look ugly.

Mascara is, in general, ugly.

There's a difference between "a minimum of makeup" and "a lot of makeup"

In my opinion, I like it when girls don't wear make-up, because chances are they look better without it on in the first place. Some girls may look good with a little bit on, but the girls who see it necessary to puts lots or more than necessary on tend to be a HUGE turn off.

And, to be honest, it is true that some girls look like prostitutes when they have make-up on, just because of how their face structure is. Just my $.02.

Make up can be nice, but some girls overdo it, especially if they are an novice in it, and that doesn't give the "right" look.

In general, I don't think it helps. My rule is if I can tell you're wearing makeup, then you're wearing too much.

And no, I'm not just "parroting what my girlfriend says" in saying so; I came to this conclusion on my own, and most girls think I'm nuts for saying this. (Or at the least, ungrateful :crazyeye:)

Meh, people only notice the girls who wear lots of make-up and look bad. If you saw a girl wearing lots of make-up (normal colours) and she looked good, you wouldn't think, "wow, her make-up looks great!", you'd think, "wow, she looks great!"

OTOH, if you saw a girl wearing lots of make-up and she looked terrible, you'd think, "wow, her make-up looks terrible!"

So in the case where she looks good, you assign the good-ness to the fact that she is good-looking, but in the case where she looks bad, you assign the bad-ness to the fact that she is wearing a lot of make-up.

Cognitive bias anyone?

Didn't read this at first before I said my comment.... Agreed with this 100%.

Everything in moderation. I don't see the point of wearing makeup every day.

Make up is bad. So is died hair, push up bras, overly sculpted eye brows and fake boobs.
