Marians: Sons of Mars

That rule is absolutely terrible. It ruins so much of the game beyond just colonies (why were these a problem anyway?)

Colonies were an issue because this game takes place from the dawn of man to the later eras, more or less. Far flung colonies at the start are unrealistic. As you advance overall, however, your ability to colonise greatly expands.

You can still design a aesthetically awkward country either way though. :p

Being Open Minded was my flavor trait.. -5 ! what effect has that had on my stats?

+2.5 Revolt Risk
-10% tech cost

Update 2

sonsofmarsmap2.png

sonsofmarsturn2stats.png

Most of the nations have advanced despite their splendid isolation. Society remains mostly stable in all the countries.

(Germany, Canada, and Wienetia have been left stagnant due to lack of player orders; Abaddon received five territories in the spirit of an unusual shape, but only one of which was specifically requested; this is due to limits on colonisation)

Incidents

The people of Barcelona have risen up in revolt against Iberia!

Singapore has been blessed with an economic upturn. (+10% base income) They collect 17 income this turn rather than their usual 15.

Announcements

Please welcome Celticfury as the new player of Austronesia.

Also welcome the new minor nations of:

-Aztec Empire
-Mali
-Kievan Rus
-Kongo
-Qin Dynasty
-Persia
-Inca Empire
-Albion
-Carthage
-Axum
-Novgorod
-Tagalog Empire

All these powers adopt the Hard Work Ethic national power, due to their benefit of being minor powers. This gives them all +5% to the provincial income. They each start with one specific tech, but do not have national specialties.

Remember - the road to power isn't expansion, but influence and diplomacy. These AI are the building blocks of all empires. Their opinion meters will show up shortly.

As with last turn, everybody can only negotiate with powers 25 pixels or less away.

Power Rankings!

The equation for power is (Land morale * number of armies) + 1/4 (income + treasury) + tech value (total cumulative value of all technology)

Remember that if a player has 25% more power than their closest rival, everybody gets a balance of power casus belli against them.

Iberia

Diplomacy: Same as last turn

Spending: 14 units of gold go to Civics II, with 2 going to the Treasury.

Claims: Iberia expands into Oran. With two technologies, we are capable of expanding ten, rather than five, pixels away.

War: The Iberian military is rallied against the bloody rebels in Barcelona!

Results -

Iberia rolls a 12 out of 25. Morale makes this 12.1. The offensive bonus adds +2% to offensive rolls, making this 12.34. The rebels roll 11. They are crushed, and Barcelona's independence movement is defeated. The heads of their leaders are now posted throughout the city.

India

Spending: 20 gold into Civics II

Claims: 3 more Indian provinces

Zulu

Spending: 12 gold into Infra, 4 gold into an army, 1 gold into treasury

Claims: 2 African provinces

You do know that SoIs have no influence on the game whatsoever, right? :p

Sure, there's the contesting claims casus belli, but that only applies based on the claims for a particular turn. ;)

Tanny, Albion is ENGLAND. The Picts are Scotland.

Albion (Greek: Ἀλβιών) is the oldest known name of the island of Great Britain.

:p

In geographical terms, you are right. But in politcal/cultural terms, it only refers to the Britons (Which are now the Welsh, BTW). Picts refer to the Scots, and seeing how "Albion" is comprised of Scotland, not England/Wales, The Picts is a better term.

Said politics and culture do not exist in this timeline. ;)

Isn't it obvious they, in true nationalist fashion, claim the title of the entire island because that is what they desire to control?

Anyway, you should get to posting your orders. :p

Tfox.. you know a lot of your diplomacy rules will be ignored? People will PM, people will claim SoIs.. you can't really stop that :/

also, i said spend my money on civ...

The Pale Empire

Local legends foretoll the rise of the Pale Empire; a weak tribe of white people that would rise to be the largest in the world. Many belive Deseret to be it. But, before we can describe their rise of power, we must desrcibe their origin.

Out to the East lays a continiet named "Your'up". There is where Deseret, also known as the Mormons, came from. They were origionally from a large island near the coast, called "Br'it'and". A Brutal war took place between them and another tribe. They were losing the war, and facing certain doom, Deseretians built ships, and sailed to an island filled with tundra and ice. Not finding it a suitable location, they sailed to another, larger ice island, even more frigid than the first.

They decided that going the same direction would, if the pattern is correct, to an even colder island, they decided to go the opposite direction. There then was a huge chain of less-frigid islands, getting closer and warmer the further they went. Soon, they reached the mainland, filled with bountiful resources...

(More to come next update)

Orders:

Invest in Infra 1 (Which should finish). Once it is, invest the rest in Militrary 2. If I can't, just bank it. Expand to Texas.

NPC Diplomacy:

-Kiev and Novgorod sign a trade agreement. They will now receive 10% of eachother's income or 1, whichever is greater.

-Inca offers Amazon a trade agreement. Since the Amazon is under my control until Duke Blackstone's return and he wanted income and stability to be his focuses, the Amazon accepts! Amazon will receive 1 gold per turn from the Inca, while the Inca will receive 1 gold from the Amazons.

-Aztecs offer the Caribbean a trade agreement.

-Axum offers the Nubians a trade agreement. Said agreement will give Axum 2 gold per turn, and Nubia 1 gold per turn.

-Persia offers East Rome a trade agreement. This will net 1 gold for each partner per turn.

-Carthage offers Iberia a trade agreement. This is accepted by Iberia, of course, netting 1 gold per turn for both sides.

-China offers Japan a trade agreement. This would net 1 gold for both sides.

-Albion offers Germany a trade agreement.

Tfox.. you know a lot of your diplomacy rules will be ignored? People will PM, people will claim SoIs.. you can't really stop that :/

Au contraire. Any agreements not allowed under the rules are null and you'll be penalised within the game's framework.

also, i said spend my money on civ...

I did. You have Civics I now.

Thank you.

Alright, the GM has told me that I may enter this game by taking control of an NPC. So, starting next turn, I would like to take control of the nation of Austronesia. That is all that I am allowed to do at the moment.

If that's the case, then can I become Dumanios, King of the Alboiners?

Yes, you are free to join as Albion, but know you're going to lag behind the rest of the pack for a while. ;)
