Marians: Sons of Mars

is this game inactive? should i stir up some crap so it is active?

Oh no, I've just been occupied with other things.

I intend to simplify the game a bit next turn. Details of how shall be revealed then~

The update will probably be today, so I will now unveil what the simplification was:

Due to most people already having a wide array of contacts and the many economic agreements being removed from the game, Diplomacy's become pretty worthless. I've abolished the tech altogether, and have refunded what each state spent on it to their treasury.

Contact will now be easy: the sum of all your techs * 5 is how far away you can reach. Iberia, for instance, can reach 200 pixels away since its techs total 40.

Diplomacy's relations boost feature is also defunct, as NPCs more or less are dynamic and react based on the benefit something would have to them.

I intend to reconfigure the free trade/protectionism slider soon, so free trade nations glean more income from all trade, rather than the now obsolete FTAs.

---

Every 2 Diplomacy granting a new trade slot has been replaced with every 2 Civics granting a trade slot instead.

Ha there goes my peaceful powerhouse plan. Can you add in sone sort of CB I can use? Frankly, it feels like you shifted the power balance in this game completely in the direction of huge countries like Russia and Iberia. Civics is a much less valuable tech for smaller nations with no way to expand.

You'll still make a ton from trade once I modify Free Trade's bonuses and you can use your cash to grow your Civics/Infra. :p

And still be much relatively weaker than Iberia. I had hoped that by being very careful with my spending in an area where few other nations were concentrating, I could keep up. However, now power equals a combination of income and civics tech level, so large empires can pour cash directly into Civics, and fix Trade, RR, Diplomatic Reach and Great Powers all in one go. Oh, and you did the same thing by making contact based on number of techs.

Please NPC Austrailia. I see no way to maintain my power for even two more turns. Excellent game, I wish I has here from the beginning.

-I am calling an Iberian Victory in 3. Any takers?

The game is winding down, though perhaps you would enjoy Imperia Mobiana, which will start when this over. ;)

All it needs is a mass invasion of Iberia and its vassals and even a Great Power will fall. :D

The destruction that would be wrought makes one question the usefulness of such a war. :p

Yes, but a lot less complex - there'd be only two tech categories for one. A rough draft of the rules was posted in the IOT Development Thread.

i found it, along with perpetual war. the rules are interesting, but since its a foreign planet, ill have to think up an entirely new nation from scratch, give it a history, capital, etc.

not an easy thing to do when all your creativity is gone :(

Due to reconsideration, Infrastructure shall be the determinant of trade pacts, not Civics. Any existing trade pacts aren't affected by the change.

I think I'm going to surge everyone's military tech soon so we can hurry up, get PBs, massacre eachother like good, civilised people and move on.

First, we buy up a Civics tech. We have 575 gold remaining.

Next, we attempt to annex France. 42. Failure.

Lombardy then. 84. Failure.

Iraq. 24.

Najd. 97.

Hedjaz. 96.

Byzantium. 83.

We keep our remaining money for the time being...

This game needs more excitement. Let's create some waves.

True to the suicidal fashion of its retired leader in strategy games such as this, Deseret declares war on Canada, triggering a crapstorm.

The Caribs side with Deseret, not wanting a Canadian superstate.

In turn, Maracaibo and Antilles side with the Caribs.

Deseretian Side

46

Canadian Side

138 + 32 (Antilles - Maracaibo)

Naturally this doesn't last long; the Mexicans and Colombians alike see a chance to disembowel their former master, Caribbea. Mexico declares war on the Caribs directly, whereas the Colombians, to get around the royal marriage they have with Caribbea, declare war on its vassal, Antilles.

Deseretian Side

46 + 36 (Mexico) + 26 (Colombia)

Canadian Side

138 + 32 (Antilles - Maracaibo)

170 to 82 seems one-sided.

The Incans, with 97 income, declare war on Antilles, making the alliances evenly matched - Caribbea/Canada's 170 vs. 159.

That'll keep things interesting. Amazon stays out due to believing war is a path to ruin, having learned their lesson last time. That and they can profit from this.

331 was our income; check the treasury. :p After we bought Infra and added the leftovers to the treasury, we had the new number.

---

Russia can reach 180 pixels away. So it can reach the Canadians.

But why intervene? Shouldn't Russia be focusing on building up its economy and stability? :p

Russian stability and Infrastructure looks fine. we are second in rank by just the net income.

well then put all 192 gold into infrastructure.

also, if we can touch the vault, withdraw everything and put that into military. we need to remain competitive.

Given that there appears to be a Canuck colony in Africa, perhaps I could relieve Canada of that worry?

Finish Mil 10.

American War

Nearly every state in the Americas has erupted into chaos!

The Deseretians attacked first, so they go first. They recruit 47 armies, well-trained ones at that! Deseret attacks Canada, and indulges in the following benefits: 0.8 to each roll, and then 18% is added onto that!

The Deseretian Ayatollah orders a full-scale assault on the Canadians; the goal is to cut off their West coast, and thus prevent blockades against Deseret. It won't be long before the Canadians have an army buildup of their own. Only 20 armies are ordered against Canada; the rest will stay on the defense.

---

Meanwhile, the anarchy spreads in the Americas, with the Caribs no longer being able to focus on Deseret. They must fight the Mexicans and Colombians, formerly their allies.

Caribbea possesses 55 armies. The Carib Emperor orders the destruction of Deseret first; the Mexicans and Colombians can come afterward. Deseret enjoys a +1.3 morale boost.

3-0. Caribbea loses 1 army, but it was for a good cause; Deseret is now defenseless. 12 territories fall to the Caribs, putting 20 under their occupation.

Caribbea is left with 30 armies. Since Mexico has a sizable military force and the Caribs are not renowned for land capability, the Carib forces stay on the defense, also administrating Deseret's former empire.

Canada annexes their lands into the Canadian Empire.

Annexing Deseret, Caribbea receives 115 Civics, 180 Army, 180 Infra, and 2.6 gold.

The remaining factions will make war soon.
