So they're up to over $300,000 now, and I've seen that several news media have reported on it.

Yet there doesn't seem to be any interest for this at CFC...

Am I missing something?

Known liberal bias, Conservative stalwarts, support of the two-party system, etc...

I'm sort of confused (nothing new I know). They're trying to raise a whole bunch of money for reform of some kind. So I'm skimming over their FAQ and distribution plan and I don't really get what they are trying to accomplish? There really isn't much substance to the site.

What will you spend the money on?

Winning elections, and learning precisely what can win elections. We will hire campaign managers for both Republican and Democratic campaigns. They will spend money in the way that campaigns spend money. The leadership of the SuperPAC, however, will not be compensated.

This seems to say, "we're going to collect the money and give it to some Republican and Democratic campaign managers who will spend it." What is that going to accomplish? Is this like some sort of reverse pyramid scheme or something? I don't see where they say directly what reforms they are working toward. Everything is sort of vague.

Here's a little about their "founder".

Lessig is currently considered politically liberal. As a law clerk, however, he worked for both Judge Richard Posner and Justice Antonin Scalia, two influential conservative judges.

Lessig has emphasized in interviews that his philosophy experience at Cambridge radically changed his values and career path. Previously, he had held strong conservative or libertarian political views, desired a career in business, was a highly active member of Teenage Republicans, served as the Youth Governor for Pennsylvania through the YMCA Youth and Government program[13] in 1978, and almost pursued a Republican political career.

This sort of sounds like a publicity stunt or attempt at self promotion. Something a politician would do. I don't see any purpose to it.

The point is undoubtedly to separate some naive people from their money by throwing up a bunch of empty buzzwords about "changing the system". If that was truly the goal they would be supporting third party or independent candidates and giving them the resources to compete against the two party system. Just giving money to democrats or republicans isnt changing anything, its just another SuperPAC.

Definitely sounds like a publicity stunt. Sort of makes a mockery of real political activism I would think.
