Mazera Mega Story Thread

In a dark corner of a dark alley in Avitas, two figures, both imperceptible to those around, spoke in hushed tones. The first said, "you seemed as interested as I am in Methyl's continued existence, but I do not think you are one of mine, nor am I one of yours." The second said, "I say the same. What is your interest in preserving Methyl's life?" "What is yours?"
A silence, and then, "You may call me Mr. Gold, for gold is my dearest family. I have been well paid to assure Methyl's continued survival. An associate of mine, who you may call Mr. Blood, has been sent by my employer to guard the Balseraph as well." The other said, "then you may call me Mr. Truth. How do I know you are not merely waiting for later to eliminate Methyl?" Mr. Gold said, "you have only my word, and if my employers decide Methyl has outlived his usefulness..." "I will have to kill you," Mr. Truth said, placing his sword where Mr. Gold's neck had been a moment before. Mr. Gold now stood where Mr. Truth had been previously, however, and said, "you will have to try to kill me. Do not fear, I have no present intentions of harming Methyl." There was a moment where they stood, staring at each other. Then each gave the other a nod of professional respect, and each continued on their way.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to step down from leading the lurchip. I just don't have the time to keep up with the story and keep them involved like they should be. If you have any questions about them, feel free to PM me, but if someone else would like to take them over I'm stepping down.

-Colin

Open Letter from: Alessea of the Ljosalfar
To: Prime Minister Esirce of the Grigori

Prime Minister,

I am speaking on the behalf of Arendel Phaedra. We of the Ljosalfar must insist the you cease and desist your desecration of nature in your war against the Chislev. Nature is sacred to the Fellowship and your recent actions have displeased us greatly. If you continue, we will be forced to act and that is the last thing we wish to do.

Sincerely,
Alessea, Speaker of Arendel Phaedra

ARCHOS MINES COLLAPSE

The Archos, leading suppliers of iron on the continent of Mazera, have had several unexplained mine cave-ins as of late. Several lives have been lost along with much time and money. At every collapse was a small coin with the symbol of Onstad Hastil on it. Corane is said to be furious and has sent his spiders to look for the location of Onstad Hastil.

NORTEK CONTINUE TO GROW

After the incorporation of the Scorpion Clan, the Nortek have also assimilated the Beast Clan and Umbra Clan. This has added much land to the Nortek and their borders have expanded rapidly. Deremei Diranth has also set up a trade with Inka Bloodsail, leader of the Bloodsail Clan located on an island off the Lanun border. The Nortek are now receiving regular shipments of fish and clams from the Bloodsail Clan and it looks like the Nortek's future is ensured.

Cassiel Quote of the Day

"The only time Lord Esirce could be expected to grow a spine was if religion was involved."

-Remus, Aide to Prime Minister Esirce

To: Alessea, Speaker of Arendel Phaedra
From: Prime Minister Esirce

Gracious Alessea,

Unfortunately, the Grigori are in a state of war with war mongers who would use the woods and forests against us to great effect. With little time or pressing reason to cease our victorious efforts, and much reason in terms of progress and Grigori lives saved to continue, the impetus for action, fully supported by my council, is that Operation Salamander will continue until the Chislev capitulate. After then, we fully intend to Bloom new forests into being to replace those that have been casualties of war.

If, say, the Ljosalfar are offering to send their army to meet the Chislev in their own forests, to vanquish them there, and to turn over control to the Grigori and our Bannor allies, then I may consider it.

But we do not follow your religions or your ways, do not bow to your traditions, and we have our own battles to fight, a war we do not intend to allow to be repeated in the next season, or the next season. Wars which will only destroy more life.

Once, perhaps, your people had the chance to affect us by please and words alone. Had you accepted my friend Cassiel's offer, had you taken shelter beside our lands, we would have accepted your ways as you accepted ours. If you had accepted our offers, our appeals, you would be well placed in our hearts to convince us. But now, you are far away, and our brave men and women die close to home. If you wish to change our behavior, help us, or we will help ourselves as we see fit.

-Prime Minister Esirce

Blind Man Found in Wilderness

In what would otherwise only be a curious story, a Grigori horseman patrol of the South Western Council came across a blind man wandering in the wilderness.

What would be an otherwise forgettable story, however, became much more interesting when, after a few minutes of talking, the patrol was nearly immediately turned around by the officer in charge and returned to the southern border. The garrison was promptly locked down, and Medicos rushed to the premise.

The military has given no explanation, but an elite column of Serpentine Slayers training in the south east has immediately begun marching to the outpost.

MYREAN CLAN DESTROYED

The Myrean Clan of Orcs, one of the stronger Orcish clans, has been wiped out by a band of spiders. The Orcs attempted to put up a defense, but by the time all the Orcs were rallied, the smaller spiders had already entered the encampment. The Orcs were soon fed upon and dozens of new spiders are now part of this large band of spiders. This group was last seen near Amurite lands. Some report that the symbol of Onstad Hastil was painted on the thorax of some of the spiders.

NEW CALABIM CAVALRY CAPTAIN

There is a new Captain of the Cavalry wing for the Calabim nation. Master Sergeant Sigillum appointed his apprentice, Balmius, to the position of Cavalry Captain. The new Cavalry Captain has begun rigorous training exercises and done some unorthodox things. The Calabim had an overabundance of archers, so Balmius had all the archers that knew how to ride a horse to learn how to ride while shooting a bow, increasing the cavalry wing of the Calabim and leaving the best archers on the walls to get better. Sigillum has begun training his Moroi against captured Hill Giants, making his forces almost unstoppable. Lord Ilyth is sure to be impressed with the work of Master Sergeant Sigillum and his apprentice.

SANDALPHON STEPS DOWN

Sandalphon, the long time leader of the Sidar nation, has stepped down as its leader. This leaves a vacancy at the top of the Sidar government and elections are currently being held. Several prominent Governors and Mayors are attempting to gain this position and it is up to the Sidar people to make this choice.

PLAGUE STRIKES AGAIN

The Plague has returned, popping up in the Khadi lands. Among the first victims is the Khadi mage credited with having stopped it originally. His success, apparently, was short lived.

This newest form of the Plague is immune, or at least highly resistant, to the Khadi magics. Magic alone will not save you from the wrath of the gods.

Nations around the world, relieved at the end of the Plague and the resumption of commerce, now return to their plague-camps and tents, awaiting the worst.

For many, too many, this truly is the end of times.

PLAGUE DEATH

Today Godwynn, a great Kahdi mage infamous for being a sexist, died today after a long bout with the Plague. His heart essentially dissolved from the inside out, causing him to die slowly and painfully. His wife has since moved on and remarried.

Well, make sure you read the whole thread and check the adopted civ list. It's on the first post and it'll make it easier to conduct diplomacy. Plus, you won't look like a tool, which always sucks..

NEW FEATURE

Due to resources generally being found over time, I am now implementing a new feature for the Mega Story. If you would like to fund an expedition to search your lands for new resources, PM me and tell me where you want to look and what for. Each expedition costs 25 gold and you have a 25% chance of discovering a new resource and a 10% of finding a new mana node. This new feature is active immediately.

Dude, I'm sorry, but that's way, way too vague a process. We don't even know what the terrain is of our empire. Unless you get us good maps, we're as likely to ask to find wheat in a mountain range as we are to ask for corn in a desert. And even then 'where to look' in incredibly vague.

Introducing more resources over time? Sure. Nice. But you should handle it, or let us handle it through trade attempts.

Trying to make a search out of it, with such a relatively high cost, abysmally low chances of success, and no real means of doing it sensibly? Even the richest empires could bankrupt themselves with a chance for only one or two, possibly, new resources.

There's a good reason resources appear at tech level and not as a payment mechanic. Especially when economy remains such a... nebulous utility. I might see the worth of hiring an expedition for 25 gold, but they would have to be able to give a definite YES/NO of anything on the tile. No "I want a 25% chance if knowing of 1/XX resources in this tile exists.

Only the mana node is worth being randomly discovered at such a rate.
