Middle-Earth: Lord of the Mods (part-hex)

I agree about both having Uruk-hai, but I still think Saruman should have something different, like a Half-Orc that might be faster than Uruk-hai. Does anyone else have an idea for Saruman's UU? Saurons should be the Olog-hai.

I think sarumann should have the bomb cruise missil thingy as a UU.. Saurons should be Olog-Hai yes..

Personally I'm wondering how you guys plan on making what is essentially a 1 man civ effective. :)

Saruman at the time lives in Orthanc, a single tower (constructed by Gondor interestingly enough). Who (to the best of my knowledge anyway) has no control over any cities. Nearby or otherwise, and while he has his own ambitions he does answer to Sauron.

What he does have is a huge production capacity to be pumping out armies.

I believe he only served Sauron outwardly, but secretly plotted against him. If he had gotten the ring he might have challenged Sauron. He also had influence on Dunland which was just Northwest of Isengard. His armies also did not answer to Sauron's armies but only to Saruman himself. His ability to pump out a huge army is enough reason to make him a civ.

Please post specific unit requests for LotR, that would help the creators. I Plan to do these units during next 2 weeks, I think at least the elves will fit in LotR.

Wood Elf Spearman (you've seen the preview)
Wood Elf Archer
Wood Elf Cavalry, not sure if armed with bow or spear
High Elf Cavalry
Dark Elf on raptor
Dwarf w/ hand cannon

I think you should arm them with a bow since All elves are excellent Archers. and Thank god. SOME ONE actually made a LOTR edit for Civ. *bows* Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!

By the way. if you people want some good leaderheads theres some here. Including an elf leaderhead. XD

Its actually quite simple:

Orc = Orc
Uruk = Crossbreed of Orc and what is known in norwegian as a vette. Its a orc kind of thing that is way weaker but can withsatnd sunlight and have great endurance..
Uruk Hai = Sarumans crossbreed of men and Uruks..

Sarumans Uruk Hais were stronger then Saaurons Uruks. This is also ilutsrated in the movie where u see that the orcs (uruks) in mordor are lesser then the orcs (uruk Hais) from saruman..
You're so wrong, Sir John, it's laughable. If you wanted to, you could actually figure that out if you did some research in addition to watching Hollywood's cinematic adaptation.
There is a lot of confusion in this era tough so I think the best I dea would bo for both to have Uruk hais only that Sarumans had Uruk Hai of the White hand and Mordor had Uruk Hais of the Red eye.. It would be the best way to solve the poroblem..
Or, to be even less confusing and silly, just have ONE Uruk-hai "elite" orc-type unit, but let both Sauron and Saruman build em. That way, the ones Saruman builds will automatically have his "white" civ-colour on em (as close as we can get to the hand deal, save special graphical modifications), and the ones Sauron builds will automatically have his "red" civ colour on em (as close as we can get to the red-eye logo deal). :satan:

You must have really liked PJ's movie, hey Sir John?

Let me say this simply:

1. Saruman used "blasting fire" once before he was destroyed.
2. Saruman alone fielded legions of half-orcs, a grotesque exercise in cross-breeding which nobody else had done before.
3. Something like Greek fire had already been used in and around Angband in the first age (as mentioned here by Fier Canadien).
4. Sauron was Morgoth's lieutenant in the First Age.
5. It's not unlikely that Sauron would have figgered out "blasting fire" in due time.

Conclusion: half-orcs are unique, blasting fire isn't very. :p

Mithadan: Ill take that as an insult! Calling me a lotr movie fan. Thats a grave insult.

Ive read lotr, the hobbit, unfinished tales and The silmarillion a LOT of times each but I do happen to like the movies as well yes..

I very much doubt the "greek fire" of angaband was as powerfull as sarumans bomb. That wouldnt make scense since there quite a few milleniums in between.

Blasting fire is quiet uniqe. It was only done on three occasions ;)

cmon SirJohn, cruisemissile thingies are out of the question. I totally agree with Mithaden there.

Just stick with the books:
Uruk-hai for both Sauron and Saruman
Goblin-Men (or Half-Orcs) as UU for Saruman

Lets not waste more time over this...

The movie should only be refered to for graphics. The basic plot is the same, but the movie changes a lot of minor details important to this Mod.

Do you consider the Elves at Helm a "minor detail"? Or the Aragorn "I don't want to be king" vs. the Aragorn "I set out from Imladris to become King", or the Osgiliath thingie, or the…

Yes, they don't matter in the mod, but they are not "minor details", not when you put them all together.

If the King flag (not the King AI Strategy) is used to represent the Characters then significant changes like Aragorns attitude shift can be represented in the mod, by setting certain "techs" to be used as event triggers, and once you reach that tech you can upgrade the Character to a new level.

This will work with PtW, you don't need C3C.

I have lost track of what exactaly we are working on right now. Is it the techs or the civs or the units or the graphics or........ It seems to me that we have gotten quite off track. As far as I can tell, I'm working on the Civs, trying to get up some city lists whenever possible, Mrtn and PCHighway are working on the Techs, and a few other people are working on graphics. In the meantime, the rest of us are carrying on semi-random discusions that, while they may be useful to the mod, don't get a whole lot done.

So that being said, here is how I think we should divide the labour:

*Mrtn and PCH: finish tech trees, when done post them here for final appoval.

*SoCalian: city lists. If you have anything to add to them just PM me

*Everyone: Civs first, then Units, then continue to go down the to do list in an orderly fashion

*Graphics: anything related to Graphics goes into the "LOTR Unit Preview" thread

I hope we can all agree to this. It will make progress go much faster.

Is there a list of Civs in just one post? :) Since I am working on a very large map I'd like to be able to work in the general locations if possible.

Which brings me to the next question.. has anyone thought about special resources? *has quite a few ideas along those lines*

They are already done, see the 1st post in this thread....
