[UNIT] Mighty Ships Et Al

If you have time / want to MightyToad, here is the Ishibiya unit I talked about awhile ago. :) I finally got around to it lol... I think it should work with the Oromo animation fairly well.
I forgot about this one. I mostly reused those textures. I wasn't sure if you were wanting to use "Hay" for the texture on the hat and cape like the cartoon characters. That's what I used. I made the cape separate in case you don't like it (I don't). I used the oromo warrior animations. I think it looks pretty decent. It doesn't hold the weapon as low and braced against the ground. But close enough.

I'm currently working on a modern ship. I want it to have a helicopter. So, it could take a while.

I think the Egyptian ship and a Mycenaean galley could be done. There is also the Kiribati and Anatolian/Caucasian units. I still don't know what they would be. Rifleman? Swordsmen? I only know they have funny hats.

Probably the western anatolian style used by the Macedonians, Thracians etc during Hellenistic times your talking of with the Anatolian/caucasian. Modern ship? Interesting. Sounds like some kind of Sea Tender ship? I think thats the term?

On the Egyptian ships:

Images 1,2,3 variations of warships used during the time of Ramses III, used most famaously against the Sea Peoples. Version 3 is a stylized version, the other two are based on historical research.

Image 4, 5 depict a kind of Trireme with a dog's head on the mast, presumingly to ram enemy ships.

Image 6 is a war galley warship used by the Ptolemies

Image 7 depicts a few ships, a small transport ship, some canoes, a large, sleek looking escort with orange sails(coloration and shape kind of remind me of a banana lol), behind it is a smaller ship with purple sails. Looks to be a large sailing canoe. Finally you have the ships in the background.

Ship that struck out to me in Image 7 was you guessed it, the orange sailed vessel, I look at it and it looks like for a ship of its size, the picture isn't showing it fully crewed. I imagine it would have quite a few oarsmen. It looks like it could be a warship but it may just be a larger(compared to the other ships) galley.

Interesting how all Ancient Egyptian ships, even after Ptolemy(though to a lesser extent), have the funeral barge shape.

But yeah I am curious about other ships from other ancient cultures in the Middle East and Classical worlds. The three ancient egyptian ships I showed are call, banana galley is cool too, but make whatever you want.

As for Mycenaean, I imagine the Minoans would be the basis for the ships, or were the Minoan ships more advanced? Be interesting to see pre-classical greek ships in the game, prequels to the Trireme. Heck whenever your up for it you could do a themed pack, ships of the ancient Mediterranean or something.

I only know they have funny hats.
 What do you think about making a musketman or rifleman version of these guys? Or maybe... a shoot n slash musketeer? :groucho: (I think I've seen a custom kfm floating around)

Really though, you can't go wrong :) And for the pre-gunpowder units, I'll be extremely grateful to put any of your creations in my Ancient Anatolia mod

For anyone interested, you might want to check out this thread by 'Khevsur' over on the TW forum:
https://www.twcenter.net/forums/sho...Colchis-and-Iberia-(information-and-pictures)

He's posted extensively on Ancient Georgia (Colchis & Kartli), with maps, history articles, folk music, and some fantastic art.

The zip I attached earlier has some of the highlights. Thank you very much MightyToad! :king: :goodjob:

I'll definitely make the Kiribati stuff, including iron what if style versions too. :) Also, massive thank you again, MightyToad. I've been wanting an Ishibiya for a long time, so once I finalize stuff on it, it'll be ready to go. I love early gunpowder in Asia especially. I need to make a Midfa too, an early Mideast hand cannon. Really hard to find info on some of this stuff though.

I was definitely thinking of more Egypt ships, including an Ironclad.

For that you can take your Japanese Ironclad as an example, keep the familar shape of Egyptian ships(Funeral barge), and go from there. Maybe the ship would be more gold, maybe normal iron colored. I'd leave that to you.

Speaking of Ancient Egyptian ships:

A Liburnia Illyria ship. Similiar design to one of the Egyptian galleys I posted an image of.

Made this one for RI a while ago. Though based off of a somewhat more hellenic-inspired illustration:

Another recent conversion of mine that kinda matches your illustration is a Persian warship. Finally, a Egyptian warship has actually been in RI for a while; it's a bit lowpoly since it's a conversion from AoM and it's somewhat dated, but I actually tesselated it a bit where it was the most obvious, so at game scale it should look all right.

What you have on your hands now is actually a great basis for a Japanese worker as well (which comes as no surprise, as that unit is basically just armed peasants):

I definitely have plans to make more workers, especially in Asia. I plan on making an ancient, medieval and industrial age workers for Japan and China both. Industrial needs lots of attention I think...

Really interested what you'd do for Industrial Japanese. For Chinese at least you have an almost infinite amount of source material...
Spoiler Just one example :

Thanks for posting those. I really like that dog-headed egyptian warship though, the last picture I posted, thinking the "banana ship" could be used as another warship or a transport depending on what someone wants to use it for. The Persian galley looks very much like an evolution of the Egyptian war galley. Apparently the Ptotemies fielded a number of Greco-Egyptian warships, like the Swan ship I posted a picture of. There is also the ship they received as a gift from Sicily, the one built by Archimedes, largest ship ever built at the time, though I wouldn't suggest Toad make that one, he would end up as wacky as Archimedes. It did make me think of Sicily(with Syracuse) as its own civilization, with all that crazy stuff Archimedes invented like the crane of death that could throw boulders miles away.

Indeed, even if some of those were at the very least exaggerated, if not outright legendary. I remember watching a cartoon as a kid about two schoolchildren transported to Archimedes' Syracuse, and it was absolutely awesome.

These Egyptian ship pictures actually inspired me to do some more conversion work today, so here's another Egyptian ship (though it's also of "banana" type), this one much more detailed than the one I posted before.

wow thankyou Walter! Yeah I got thinking of Egyptian ships because they had a unique look, and any civilizations on the Mediterranean are almost entirely using Hellenistic designs, which is a shame I think because there were other cultures with other designs. I wonder of Hittite ships or actual Minoan ships, early(pre-hellenized) Phoenician vessels.

These Egyptian ships are amazing though, I do like the design. I think the funeral barge in many Pharoah's tombs is similar no?

Thank you very much @Walter Hawkwood, these are splendid ships!

I agree with Geddon, it would be really cool to see some Hittite and Wilusan / Trojan vessels. Carians as well could hold their own when it came to ships :)

Midfa ...
more Egypt ships, including an Ironclad.
I'd love to see these Matsuda, onegai!

For your Kiribati units and Asian workers, you've got the support of us over here at 'Team Scrubs' :goodjob:

How many ships do Hittites really have? I don't remember much about that, but should be interesting.

Oh you'll be seeing what if units for the workers in the industrial age, but im sure i'll eventually do real ones too...

That's a a fat bottomed ship Toad, but it does look cool and I like the missile animation attacks. :)

I love the attack animation. The ship is nice too. I would definitely holdon to that missile animation. It has a lot of potencial.

I remember seeing a ship that looked like that along with the Stealth Destroyer and Stealth Cruiser prototypes awile ago.
