Mini-NOTW I: "To Kill a Mockingbird" (Game Thread)

I'll be out of town for a week. Please don't shoot me :D
OOC: *shoots BananaLee*

IC: The maniac is in a foul mood, glaring around at the citizens

Somebody in this town is a DAMN THIEF. Some no good greedy low life snuck into my hut and stole my precious amulet. If it is not in my possession, there will most certainly be grave consequences.

Midday/Morning:
It seemed like the mayor's dead had robbed most of the villagers of their ability to (or motivation to) speak - the only one yet to voice his concerns were the maniac, and he seemed almost oblivious to the killing, very angered at the apparent loss of a precious amulet.

Nobody had thrown any votes against each other yet - then again, there was lots of time 'till sundown.

:bump: Night falls in roughly 50 hours.

The traveler, still nauseas from the horrific sight, leans against a wall for support, his face pale. After he takes a few deep breaths he speaks up!
Not the mayor! This demonstrates that the killer or killers must be stopped, they will continue with their savagery.

I will miss the mayor dearly...he was a good friend of mine all through the better times of my life and I'm sorry I couldn't do anything to help him see this through to the end with me...
As for this amulet, stealing in a time like this is just wrong. We are fighting for our lives and shouldn't need to worry about the small amout of possessions we hold can be stolen on top of our very lives being taken as well. We need to find this thief...especially since they're out at night stealing our things, either they could also be the monster or at least they might've seen something...

(OOC sorry for the double post, but its pretty quiet in here...)

I have been thinking it over and I know there is nothing I could have done to save my friend and our leader Winston.
I believe that we should try to vote a new person to take his spot.
As for his murder though, I don't believe that saving him was in my power and the only person that I believe could have done what I could not was you Ekolite! You are our guard! You were out at night looking for our killer and have not shared and information that you may have found and have also kept yourself distanced in a time when we need unity to survive! Winston knew that he would probley be killed last night. It was obvious that his actions, good as they were, were also condeming him to death by the hands of this monster and you and only you could have saved him and did nothing! His blood is on your hands and that along with your actions thus far cause me to believe that you are responsible and should be hanged for your crimes!

I have the truth! thomas.berubug is no hunter, he is a thief, with the innkeeper as his accomplice, and they will both hang as the theives they are unless all the stolen materials are returned immediately.

EDIT: OOC: *something about evidence from a reliable source*

Lies! I couldn't believe that Thomas would go stealing from people! Even if he was we have bigger things to worry about, as the killer obviously wasn't stealing stuff, he was killing, and we can worry about petty theft later. It occurs to me that Paulus might be one of the decendant's of Arwail's founder, using the ley-lines to promote his evil magic, no? I don't think our hunter uses evil magic.

Edit: What have you on me anyway? I wish to talk to you in private.

"Evil magic? No, good sir. I'm just a simple potionbrewer. Since when is using magic an offense in Amurite lands, anyway? Besides, my magic clearly did not kill him as it doesn't leave such a bloody mess behind."

"Oh, wait." He laughed. "You are taking me for a ritualist of the Ashen Veil! That would nicely explain the random mutilations, no?"

He shakes his head. "No. If you ask me, it's our guard who has something to do with the killer. Either he's the killer or he's not doing his duty as a guard, so either way we don't seem to lose anything!"

Now, what if the guard is walking around at night trying to catch the killer in action? I think it's too soon to hang the guard, although you guys have very good arguments.

I think I agree with the Innkeeper. A magic adept seems kind of suspicious, especially since the story is unfolding. Paulus, I suspect you.

I do not understand how a magic ADEPT (no offence intended) is subject for accusation in the lands where magic is used and accepted most! You must think, could one that has just started their magical training be able to do this? No I believe the guard has crimes to answer for, and even now he bathes in silence and does nothing to defend himself, no explinations, no reasons why we are wrong in suspecting him. Paulus has done nothing condemig his actions besides doing what most Amurites do and that is study magic! You would have better reasons to hang an Elf for loving tue forest or a Dwarf for loving wealth! We need to deal with what we have proof! Not wild unfounded accusations! Ekolite to hang!

By the Holy lights of Lugus this is the exact reason I distance myself from you rumour-mongerers, it is clear beyond a doubt that none of you are to be trusted. You are all clearly happy to turn upon innocent men as soon as you have some shaky, so-called evidence cooked up in those irrational minds of yours. Like I said, without me here you're chances of survival are zero. My training as a guard will allow me to fight of, and perhaps even kill my attacker, and with a few days of investigation more I am confidant I can find the killer. During my time as a Radiant Guard of the Emyrean, I gained ownership of a scrying device, which I shall not name as there are clearly theives about. With this I will soon find the killer. If somehow I die, the item will still be usable by another man in this village, but they will sadly become the target of the murderer, as it is unlikely that they will be able to defend themselves in the same way that I can.

Like I said, when you roast in the pits of Agares you will regret causing my death.

Are you so sue of your ability you will openly claim you can "scry" who this monster is? If you are right...I will back you once again. I with hold my vote against you...for now. I would like to discuss these matters with you more in privet. However, without any strong evidence against anybody else, I will go with Tasselhoff and vote Thomas to get the noose. Thievery cannot be tolerated when what we need is trust among us. We do have evidence against you Thomas, gathered by the mayor and given to those he trusted before his death. This evidence shows you to be trafficing items and we only have suspicions to where but they will be held accountable as well.

My scrying abilities will reveal if the target is a ''sinner''. People I judge to be a ''sinner'' are not necessarily the killer, but they are definitely up to no good. It is the best chance we have.

Theft? me? Friends... what foolishness is this? True, i have travelled far and wide, and my travels have brought riches to this village, but is that evidence enough to incriminate me?

I say No... and If I die, this village will loose one of it's greatest opportunities for survival.

"What Paulus? You want to kill the innkeeper? Where will I get my drink if he's gone? You shir...you..." the drunkard nods off.

I have reports from a prophet that Ekolite was scanned for innocence and came up negative. He is clever, claiming to be have scrying abilities, but my message about his lack of innocence came before his claims to be a scryer. If he is innocent, as he claims, then surely the "sinner" Paulus can die tomorrow.

OOC: Apologies for double post

IC: But do not think I have forgotten you, thomas. We know you possess a vial of poison. If I die tonight of poison, the entire village knows you are the guilty one. Do not be so foolish.

I did not take your amulet!

Yes, I now have poison, which I would not use on any innocent, despite any personal vendettas they may have against me. I am here to Kill a killer, no body else.

What make Paulus a sinner? I have seen no evidence or actions that this claim is true! I would call our town drunk a sinner before I called Paulus one based on what is known at this time.
We seem to be pointing fingers at those we know, trust (occasionally), and have lived with for years. What about J-Man? Where did he come from? Why is he here? Did he bring this monster with him? Why has he kept so quiet during our discussions? The same with BananaLee! Perhaps they are trying to keep attention away from them? Or they just wanna stay outa the squabbling of neighbors, but either way, come join us in the open instead of hiding in the shadows!

OOC: BananaLee will be out of town for a week. I can't say the same for J-man.
