Multipolarity IV Game Thread

Tayloristan welcomes the friendship of the Noodle Republic with great joy.

Tayloristan has set up specified depots along its borders where any merchant of any affiliation carrying any sort of cargo may sell it to the state for a fair price.
Caveats: Tayloristan will not buy defective goods, as defined by Tayloristan. Tayloristan requires sellers to check their weapons outside the depot. Tayloristan will not permit conflict between merchants of warring powers within its borders, under pain of goods confiscation or imprisonment. All purchases are final, under pain of goods confiscation and imprisonment.

Arstotzka refuses to sign the Amistad Chapter on the grounds of slavery.

The Amistad Charter is between the nations of Crimson Indonesia, the People's Empire of China-Japan, and the Kingdom of Iceland-Norway, with Cape Verde requesting acceptance. We were not asking you to join, but merely announcing the treaty to the world officially.

The 501st Legion has staked it's claim to the following island chains, and, barring any negotiations with other states regarding the fate of the islands, shall be sending settlers to them within the year.

Good! The last thing the world needs is merchants trying to sell defective goods off at the price of working cargo.

We second this viewpoint.

Are you open to negotiation on either the island chain to the far west or the one west of Borneo? We just want one or the other.

This is true. The Amistad Charter is merely an attempt at transparency to foster trust on the international stage. It by no means limits the slave trade only to and from the Crimson Court, as our merchants are more than happy to buy prisoners of war and criminals from any country willing to sale.

Are you open to negotiation on either the island chain to the far west or the one west of Borneo? We just want one or the other.

We are open to negotiation; we'll recognize the Crimson King's claim to the Riau Archipelago, while he recognizes our claim to the Andaman Islands.

(You get the islands west of Borneo, we get the westernmost islands)

Extremely acceptable. I have the feeling we're going to be the bestest of neighbors (OCC: Which is a rarity in IOTs with me and my neighbors usually).

The first thing an outside observer would notice was the overpowering orange aura piercing the sky above the jungle, then the point where the green gases constantly rising from the jungle met the light of the sun, then below into the weird and perpetually shrouded jungle. Perhaps the last thing an observer would notice is the kilometer-long steel gray cigar complete with a dozen propellers drifting through the ether, or the three half-kilometer zeppelins pacing it. Or maybe the last thing an observer would notice is the ivory passenger compartment beneath the larger zeppelin, or the black writing on the zeppelin's side "Absolute Power".

On board the Absolute Power, a man reclined in a ratty old red armchair as two others, one older and one younger, regarded him from a pair of ornate gold-enamored masterpieces of chairs. The older man began to speak in heavily accented English. "Dictator, I speak for the cities and the cities will not approve of this plan of yours."

The reclining man non-chalantly replied "You haven't even heard the entire plan yet. All you know is phase one."

"You've authorized buying slaves from the Crimson Islands! The rest of the plan is irrelevant because your 'phase one' is to spit upon this country's moral principles!" The older man shouted.

"Indeed? You'd rather the Crimson Islands keep them?" Shrev Taylor questioned.

"How is that relev-" The older man heatedly began but the younger man interjected "I must agree with Domestic Minister Doumont. Purchasing slaves may be enough to start a civil war."

"You wouldn't believe how rude it is to interrupt a fellow in the middle of his plan. Why, back in England they would-" Shrev Taylor began.

"We don't care about England. Finish your plan if it's so important to you." The younger man stated exasperatedly.

"I knew you would come to my defense, dear Raekhimnijong! It's one of the reasons you were our candidate for general secretary! Now, have you noticed anything about Tayloristan?" Shrev Taylor asked excitedly.

"It's named after you?" The domestic minister observed angrily.

"Well it is, but that's not what I was talking about. I meant our cities. Have you noticed how average life expectancy is roughly 37 years unless you live in Haven, in which case its 72?" Shrev Taylor continued.

"Get on with it!" Raekhimnijong snarled.

"You wound me. Long story short-" Shrev Taylor began.

"Too late." Raekhimnijong observed.

"We need to build schools, push back the jungle, reliably settle more cities, expand our zeppelin fleet, copy Haven's secret, dig more diamond mines, and so forth. All of which take manpower." The Dictator lectured.

"So you settled on slave labor?!" Doumont shouted.

"No. I settled on creating a bureaucratic oversight whereby our clerks are not legally allowed to refuse to buy slaves from Crimson Islands merchants, excepting slaves missing limbs and so forth, thus forcing an emergency visit by the Absolute Power to correct the situation as slavery is against the law in this country." Taylor continued.

"This accomplishes what?" Doumont murmured, head clasped between his hands.

"Why, the creation of a dedicated corps of loyal, grateful civil engineers, of course. And the precedent of Tayloristan buying slaves to free them. You can't put a price on UN goodwill coupons." Shrev Taylor finished.

Raekhimnijong stood up. "I need a freaking drink." He said as he turned to leave, almost colliding with a man wearing a naval uniform and a captain's cap.

"Dictator, we will be over trade depot #145 within five minutes. Your helicopter has already been prepped for flight."

"Thank you, Captain Krystolis. I will be along shortly." The Dictator replied. Krystolis bowed and left.

"Come, Doumont. Let us see what my plan has wrought." Shrev Taylor hopped up excitedly.

"I think I need a freaking drink too, sir." Doumont answered.

"Don't bug out on me like Raekhimnijong, Domestic minister. I need at least one witness." Shrev Taylor teased.

"Make that two freaking drinks." The domestic minister countered.

Earlier, at trade depot #145...

"Tayloristan is willing to offer $9,647.56 for your cargo of maize, the weight of which is 41 tons, Sir." Purchasing agent Clara Forenz offered. Get a degree, they said. Your job will be interesting and rewarding, they said. If I had their necks right now... She thought darkly.

"This is an outrage! I could get $11,000 in Hawai'i!" The American merchant exploded.

"If you could find a buyer, Sir." Forenz replied. "Do we have a deal or don't we?"

"If I could find a buyer, yes. Yes we have a deal." The merchant agreed. "Something is better than nothing."

"Very well, Sir. Sign here to acknowledge that your sale is final, sign here to make the sale."

"I'll sign." The merchant grumbled as he signed both sheets of paper.

"Very good. Here's an envelope with the money, you get a 5% credit on your next sale if you count it in front of me and we short-changed you, and your weapons are in shed #22." Forenz recited.

"No, I'm sure Tayloristan hasn't short-changed me any more than it already has." The American grumbled as he left.

"Next!" Forenz called.

"That's me." A short, middle-aged fat man accompanied by twelve dirty men and women wearing metal collars walked forward.

"Sir, the rules are clear. You must leave any guards, mistresses, family, advisers, agents, lawyers, tax collectors, eunuchs, playboys, virgins, demons, or entourage of any sort in the camp." Forenz challenged.

"You mistake my cargo for entourage?" The fat man answered.

"Cargo? But..." Forenz stammered.

"Yes. My slaves that there are nothing wrong with which I've been unable to sell." The fat man grinned as he replied.

"No sale. Slavery is illegal in this country." Forenz stated.

"Ahem. 'where any merchant of any affiliation carrying any sort of cargo may sell it to the state for a fair price.' These words familiar to you, madam?" The fat man quoted.

"Why yes, that's the trade depot charter-" Forenz began.

"And surely you must agree that whether or not slaves are goods in your country, they are my cargo. And you must buy them." The fat man continued.

"But...but...Why me? Why me? Why me?" Forenz muttered as she banged her head against her desk.

"Careful, or you might misappraise my cargo." The fat man observed with concern.

"You...you...$4000. Sign these two documents without another word out of you and get out!" Forenz exploded.

The fat merchant silently signed the papers, then handed a small remote to Forenz and then left.

The slaves eyed Forenz with a mixture of apathy, fear, and hope as they stood silently. Forenz gulped, then pressed a green button beneath her desk. Less than four minutes later, a Dictatorial Operative arrived, hair pulled into a bun, clipboard and pencil at the ready. "What seems to be the trouble, Clara?" She asked.

"I've discovered a hole in our legal code. I was unable to refuse to buy slaves from a Crimson King merchant, yet it is illegal for anyone to own slaves within Tayloristan's borders." Forenz answered with a degree of apprehension.

"And you just let him walk over you? Ugh. Fine, I'll push it forward. In the meantime, we'll keep them in barracks #3." The operative decided with disgust.

To Be Continued.

#2-------

A woman and a man were dancing in a meadow in the spring, losing their caution and their clothes in the heat, letting the harshness of living in a post apocalyptic world leave them for a time. The woman fell asleep, and the man left. He returned, accompanied by others.

The meadow disappeared, replaced by a stone walled cell. No second shadow to join the first. Hours passed into days, the cell flickered into a dirt yard, into a red room, back into a cell. Lips moved, but no sound was heard or made.

Then, a ship. The woman became seasick, and the voyage seemed endless. Finally, a dirt road leading up from a makeshift port to an equally makeshift collection of tents, barracks, and barbed wire.

Suddenly she awoke, lying on her back in a thin cot, metal collar pressing against her neck and the weight of the betrayal and her confinement pressing upon her in its entirety. There was sound in the corner, one of the other two women taking advantage of the temporary freedom from the Master's restrictions. No, not Master. Not anymore. What will happen to me now? Sold as a slave to a backwater country. A nation we were always told as children was a hole in the earth from which no light escaped. A region of desolation. Try as she might, she could not imagine anything "Tayloristan" or its "Dictator" could do to her that was worse than what the Crimson King or her former friend had done. She closed her eyes and fell asleep.

A pounding on the door woke her. Knocking? "You all need to be outside in three minutes!" A tough-sounding male voice shouted.

Polite of them. She thought as roughly half of her fellows threw on their clothes. But it's not like they could make us less dignified by bursting in. Plus, I sleep in what I own. Means it's still mine. She got up and made her way to the door.

A moment after she arrived near it, a purple-uniformed guard with an assault rifle opened it. "You do know you could have come outside earlier, right?" He stated. "Come on, outside. Time to find out what to do with the lot of you."

Dictatorships. She mentally rolled her eyes. Problem with consolidating all the power in one person is that person has to be everywhere to make all the decisions. No wonder all monarchs are mad.

She walked outside to find a space cleared in the center of the encampment with no less than thirty armed guards, eight in purple and the others in green camouflage. Around the space were gawking merchants and lollygaggers from a hundred cities and a dozen nations. Standing on one side of the square space were two women in business suits, one with a clipboard and heels and the other with boots and a notebook. The guard directed her and the other slaves to an area near the two women.

So this is where we wait for the big kahuna. She thought with disgust. She suddenly noticed that most of the lollygaggers were looking up and there was a constant sound of engines in the air. So she looked up and couldn't contain a gasp. Hovering overhead was an airship nearly three times the size of the ship which had stolen her from her home, with the words Absolute Power emblazoned in black upon its side.

Big enough ego? She wondered silently.

The sound of helicopter rotors interrupted her contemplation. It was a sleek-looking orange & white beast with what looked like jet engines embedded in its stubby, yet elegant wings. The helicopter launched from the lower deck of the airship's cabin, lost altitude for two full minutes and landed perfectly in the center of the open area.

The Polity Alliance of Brazilian Cities is eager to sign the Amistad Charter. Brazil can always do with the labour and will offer pacts to the higher sellers of quality slaves.

The Peoples Protectorate of the Amazon Rainforest is eager to conduct tests on subjects. Supply us subjects and there might be cake baked in a pact of friendship.

Kenya welcomes the extra labour.

The Free Republic of Nigeria opposes this slaver charter and that our lack of action in stopping our companies from buying slaves is just the invisible hand of the market setting out to push them if they do buy slaves.

The Incorporate States of Australia may tolerate this charter.

The United States of Cascadia was among the first of the minor powers to condemn the charter and set out that any slaver vessels porting in Cascadia will be boarded and have the slaves freed.

The United Kingdom of America and Republic of Italy will remain neutral on the matter at the moment.

Morocco, Aragon, Brittany, Kirov, Switzerland, Namibia, Arabia, Tamil, Maratha, Hindustan, Burma, Tasmania, Western Australia, the Abyssinian Empire, Christian States of America, the Caribbean, Panama, Peru, Finland, Lusitania, Petrograd, Free Ryazan, Guyana, Oman, Benin, Ōpūnui Incorporated States (Hawaii), New Guinea and Nicaragua are all unpleased with the brining of neo slave trading.

Other nations are thinking on the matter.

The Heavenly Empire of Brunei is set in virtue. As such to bow our citizens like that are not in set motion. We are a moral society set to be heavenly. A citizen being dutiful to their parents have contributed to the continued existence of government. To contributed to the harmony we will not seek to conduct immoral practices that would lead the Heavenly Empire of Brunei to be subjected to storms, plagues and peasant revolts in divine retribution against the Emperor of Brunei for accepting a slaver deal. I will hence set a example and order my military to be on the alert for any slavers. We will also set a call to the world: offer us protection against the slavers and we will in turn be grateful. Consider this a stance of purity.

Fellow Confucius power that is the Kingdom of Sulawesi may or may not stand up in favour of helping Brunei, although its size means it could endanger itself by conducting such policy.

We've got your backs.

The PSA will eye with consideration and thanks the offer of protection... err is it a offer of protection?

The Noodle Republic refuses to sign the Amistad Chapter and will embargo any nation that does so, including Mosher's nation.

Also we guarantee trade with Talyorstan.

Brunei is wishful the Noodle Republic would help stand up for the Heavenly Empire of Brunei. Will you accept this task of virtue?

We wish to ask for the opening of the Bosphorus to allow for free trade and movement of goods into, out of, and through the Black Sea through the Mediterranean, as this is the only way to gain access to the sea for Arstotzka. This act will benefit us both greatly, bringing more traffic and trade to you, while at the same time allowing me and my people to access to the rest of the world. We hope that you agree with us and that you would be willing to open the Bosphorus for Arstotzkan ships and goods.

We are eager to seek this trade. The three classes of citizens in Greece will benefit from this greatly. Justice to Greece!
Justice to Arstotzka!

Behold the Benevolent People's Dictatorship of Taloyistan! We have arrived, and it will take more than force of arms to dislodge us.

We, but most especially Shrev Taylor, would like to offer a defensive pact to the Police State of Cameroon, Warrior Realm of Angola, Orderly State of Kenya, and Abyssian Empire. Between us, we can forge the beginning of a unified Dark Continent, powerful enough to stand on its own against outside forces, most especially the barbarian kingdoms who have lost their civilization to the cataclysm.

All power in Tayloristan rests in the hands of the Dictator, ultimately, and he does not see the wisdom in war when war does not have to be fought.

Cameroon is thinking of time needed before signing pacts but gladly likes the offer of protection. Hence a short term pact will be considered, although competing pact offers will also be considered. However what is signed will be the law. Hence if no other offer is set you may find Cameroon your ally.

Angola wants to avoid conflict is possible and gladly sees strength in two. Two can do more than one. Hence the offer is on the table and will be considered. However the idea of uniting the "Dark Continent" (Africa is not a dark place! It is sunny!) is a questionable lead and as such the offer will remain on the table less Angola be set on some crusade to "unify" a continent.

Kenya sees the possibility of setting order all over Africa and will gladly consider the offer.

The Abyssian Empire will agree with the defence part of the offer but the idea of "unifying" the continent is a questionable proposal and stands with Angola on the issue. Abyssia is also a constitutional monarchy: hence while it will be pragmatic to make alliances we will be keeping the alliance short term at the time being till we can assess your rule well.

Stalin attempts to read the Amistad charter, but can't read capitalist-speak. He growls, tossing the papers around his office, cursing.

Best Korea and Timor will help you! We are most open to alliances between us, Stalinist Germany and Siberia. May we protect our cause greatly!

Kenya also would likely interests in this.

Butting in to state that the slave trade has been factored into the mechanics now; it was simple enough.

Common sense applies as always; the larger they are as a percentage the more disruptive things might get. :p On the other hand the fact they don't need wages or regulations means they're more valuable than normal pop units. With risk comes reward!

For the moral types you can always buy the slaves just to free them, as well.

To Kenya, Abyssia, Cameroon, & Angola:

We clarify that we have no crusade of unification unless unification be achieved by diplomacy. This overture is intended as a pact of mutual protection and support against outside threats. Our usage of the phrase "unified Africa" was intended only to convey the futility in warring against ourselves.

#4-

First the left hand door of the helicopter opened and a orange-uniformed female pilot with prominently holstered pearl-handled double revolvers exited, then a middle-aged man wearing an immaculate black suit exited the right hand door, followed by an older man in a gray suit festooned with medals.

The black-suited man strode to the center of the square and she knew somehow that this was the Dictator, not the fool emblazoned with medals or the obvious bodyguard. The Dictator walked over to the two suited women, flanked by his pilot and the older man. "What is the situation here?" He questioned intently.

"This fool let herself be bullied into purchasing slaves with legal double-talk instead of showing the foreigner what for." The woman holding the clipboard hissed.

"I believe purchasing agent Clara Forenz can speak for herself, Ms. Klark. Is that correct, Ms. Forenz?" The Dictator replied mildly.

"I can, my lord. I felt I had no choice - it was either buy or go back on Tayloristan's word before foreigners." The booted woman answered apprehensively.

"You made the correct choice. We must hold to our word before foreign powers." The Dictator reassured. He stepped past the two women towards the line of slaves. "Now what are we to do with you? Slavery is illegal in Tayloristan."

The Dictator began walking down the line of twelve slaves, three women and nine men. "The way I see it," he mused, "there's two real choices."

"Door number one: We make you all free citizens right here and now. You'd be free. Granted, you'd also be poor and likely unable to take care of yourselves. This would also put us- how much did we pay?" The Dictator questioned the booted woman, Forenz.

"$4,000, my lord." She answered quietly.

"Thank you, $4,000 divided by 12 in the red for each of you. So that option isn't particularly appealing to any of us."

"Door number two: We hire you as civil engineers, construction workers, basically the builders of public works for eight hours a day, five days a week, with state-provided food and housing until you've worked off the amount we paid for you at which point you become full citizens...with work experience, records in the system, and a job if you want to keep it." The Dictator finished.

Don't do it. Her brain said. But it was too late. She heard herself say "And what if we don't like either of those choices?"

The Dictator turned directly towards her. "What would you propose?" He questioned.

"Suppose I run." She answered.

"Thanks for reminding me. Deactivate those collars." He ordered the guards. "I suppose you could. If you made it to one of our cities, you'd be Amatyi." The Dictator mused.

"Amatyi?" She questioned.

"Think gold medal winner, movie star, gladiatorial champion, national hero. The state would have no choice but to provide for you...you'd be too popular for us to choose otherwise." The Dictator answered honestly.

"Sounds too good." She replied warily.

"It is. There have been two Amatyi in the ten years I have ruled Tayloristan." The Dictator conceded. "What is your name?"

"Zoe." Zoe answered. "Yours?"

"It is public record." The Dictator answered. "But in the interest of saving time, it is Shrev."

"Hey!" Jake, a former war criminal from Cascadia, interjected. "Love birds! What's going to happen to us?"

"You're either a civil engineer or you're trying to become Amatyi." The Dictator replied. "That goes for all of you."

"All of us?" Zoe questioned.

"As brave as you are, yes. I cannot show favoritism." The Dictator turned around and began to walk back to his helicopter.

As the dictator reached the helicopter, the purple-uniformed guard who had awoken them stepped forward. "Civil engineers with me! Dead meat run towards the jungle!" He shouted.

The slaves looked at one another, then they stepped towards the guard. Eleven of them.

"Coming?" A former slave named Eve asked Zoe.

"No." Zoe answered coldly. "No more gods, no more masters. The terms don't matter. I choose the jungle." Zoe turned and walked towards the green mist rising from the jungle.

--------

The Dictator watched the one called Zoe stalk towards the jungle. "Farewell." He whispered, too soft to be heard over the helicopter's spinning rotors.

All four powers wish to apologies for making the mistake.

Kenya and Cameroon will be signing the pact.

Abyssia may consider the signing of the pact.

Angola wants to be certain this will be to its pragmatic interests. Hence it will follow the pact for three years, which then it will be renewed depending on the interests of Angola in light of the world.

Brunei is thankful to the virtues of the Noodle Republic. This may see a full on alliance between Brunei and the Noodle Republic. Emperor Eko will offer to come to one of your universities to give a lecture on Confucius and his morals as a first step to rewarding your nation of virtue.

The Kingdom of Sulawesi might be eager to also set a alliance with the Noodle Republic and with Brunei in the name of virtue.

Brazil is outraged that Brunei is going against its slaver ally and will embargo the Noodle Republic.

The Federal Republic of Rhodesia will consider a grand trade deal with the Noodle Republic in light of the anti-slavery stance of the Noodle Republic.
