The Socialist Peoples Republic of Argentina hereby garuntees the independance of the states of the Amazon, Brazil, Caracas, Columbia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, and Venezuela. Any attempt to militarily occupy these states will be met with diplomacy where possible and force where neccesary.

Argentina has no intention of keeping or trading slaves, considering the concept to be too morally questionable. Although we discourage the practice, we have no intentions of attempting to enforce our standerds on those who disagree at this time. We will neither support nor oppose the Borneo Pact or the Amistad Charter in this issue, and expect the same courtesy in return.

Argentina shall be laying claim to the Islands indicated below, and will support Ecuador should it wish to lay claim to the indicated islands near their own shores.

Spoiler The Nation Bio that I couldn't finish before the game started :
Following the cataclysm the already-backwards nation of Argentina was almost completely destroyed. The survivors splintered quickly, spreading off into small local states with wildly varied political and economic systems. The largest of these was centered in the former capital, and survived their comparitively infertile location only through the strictest rationing of available foodstuffs and materials. However, the city dwellers came to consider themselves superior to some extent, having maintained a roughly functioning democracy in contrast to a number of local dictators.

As civilisation was restored, this example of functional democracy, which was surviving just as well as their 'harsh but neccesary' reigimes, became a threatening symbol to the local rulers. They joined themselves together, forming a loose alliance with the intent of destroying the city state before their people started looking to closely at it. It seemed certain that the fledgeling state would be destroyed.

It was during this war that 'General' McConqueror came to prominence. Having been given a tiny force armed with only what they could pilfer from the old city, he was sent out to defend the tiny nation from a vastly superior enemy. He returned a hero, having picked his the invaders apart and driven them back in confused defeat.

Aware of the threat to their survival, McConqueror was sent forth time and again against the local despots, and each time returned with stunning victories. In this manner the tiny state conquered its way across the local area, and soon became large enough to begin snowballing through the tiny survivor bands, eventually uniting a moderately-sized nation.

It was then that McConqueror himself came to power, riding his popularity into a landslide election victory. Continueing the rapid increases in the newly named 'Argentina's size and power, he remained on an ever-cresting wave of support. It was with this support that he began chopping away the foundation blocks of democracy, expanding his own power and influence vastly beyond what his post should allow him. By the end of his second term in office, he was a dictator in all but name.

By the time of McConquerors death, the elections were naught but a sham, the 'Peoples Republic' being neither the peoples nor a republic, although its history of strictly rationed resources allowed it an easy transition into what some might call communism. The coupons of old had evolved into Marks, which eventually became a recognised currency.

With the death of their former leader, his advisors and deputies engaged in a brief struggle for power, which ultimately ended with the 'election' of former Foreign Minister Ruthless McIronfist as the new President. As the year 2200 began, only time would tell to what new heights he would lead the nation.

I can wait until orders are received before receiving a trait, yes. I just want players to get traits in by the lock or I'll have to randomise them. :p

#6-------

Two hours this time. She promised herself as she secured a vine around her body to a tree branch four meters above the ground. Two hours... and her eyes closed.

She awoke to a clacking sound near her left ear. Not again. Zoe gripped her stick in her left hand and swung it around behind her head. She heard a hiss and the clacking sound retreated a short distance. Zoe sat upright and turned around to confront what she had affectionately dubbed the "Tayloristani Jungle Scorpion", a meter-long dark green scavenger which had been following her for a week now, attempting to strike every time she fell asleep. Zoe swung the bladed head of her staff only to again see the Treejumper claws on its head rebound off the scorpion's armor, trailing sparks.

The scorpion hissed and rubbed its claws together, producing sparks and that infernal clacking. It skittered towards her menacingly.

Zoe hurriedly undid the vine holding her to the tree, dropped her staff, and half-jumped half-fell to a branch between herself and the ground. The impact added another three cuts to her left hand, but Zoe considered herself fortunate. She knew from experience the scorpion's sting was powerful enough to shatter bone, although the toxin didn't seem particularly lethal.

The Tayloristani Jungle Scorpion hissed and began to slowly make its way down the tree to the ground, its legs piercing the tree's bark in order to grip it. It almost sounds frustrated. But it's just an insect. Right?

Thank everything holy in this world those things can't jump. Zoe thought as she dropped the rest of the distance to the ground. She knelt and found the arrow she had carved in one of the tree's roots before the airship convoy had faded from her sight, then picked up her staff, got up and started walking.

The going was slow. The earth was twisted into seemingly physics-defying loops and ribbons where it wasn't a crater, and the roots of the trees protruded seemingly in an effort to impede foot travel. It wouldn't be so slow if the entire area wasn't covered in the mysterious rising mist which obscured any view greater than a few meters in every direction except up.

OOC: I love how Yunnan is now classed as part of Mainland Japan. George is just a tradition I wish to continue for the sake of development. Consider posting IC posts to gain influence over NPCs: consider in trade at the least.

The powers of South America are pleased with Argentina's declaration. Together we will protect South America from foreign threats!

Anatomy of the Slave Trade

Slave trading is pretty basic. Someone offers population for sale, someone buys it for an agreed price; the market is entirely player to player. Looking at the lessons of Haiti, a large slave population obviously carries its risks to your government.

Once you have slaves you may decide how hard you wish to work them. By default you work them as twice as productively as your free citizens and will lose 6% of them each turn as a result. With sufficient healthcare spending however they will still steadily grow. Loss is productivity raised to a power of 2.5. Productivity may be any number, but if it's less than 1 you may as well free them.

Productivity - Loss Per Turn
1.5-3%
2-6%
3-16
4-32
5-56
6-88
6.3-100%

Just figured I’d share this system which was developed with Sonereal’s input. I’ll be adding it to the rules.

I remind you tani, that Haiti was the only successful slave revolt in the entirety of human history ;)

The world's shrunk now. Everyone should tread carefully. :p

you'd think a shrinking world would make slave revolts even less likely to succeed, considering the only one too succeed IRL was halfway around the world from the mother country in the age of sail AND considering the mother country was France (famed for its surrendering more than its victories).

What about indentured servants, Tany?

This is going to be fun.

What about indentured servants, Tany?

For mechanical purposes, an indentured servant would actually be that, and not a slave in all but name. :p

By Royal Decree, the Kingdom of Great Britain has set aside the islands near their home islands as areas for which we have intentions of expanding into.

The British sees no need for slaves. Instead, we rather invest in much more productive means with machinery and industrialization rather than subject captured persons for servitude.

War Averted
Long live the Crimson Emperor Abbalah
Long Live the Crimson Heavenly Emperor Eko!

Yeah, right.

The Noodle Republic declares that this deal is considered null and void by the Noodle Republic. No slaves will leave the ports of Brunei, if you wish to not escalate hostilities then you will want to back down.

To: The Golden Horde

Your merchants while shipping in the ports of the Noodle Republic will be following the laws of the Noodle Republic. All ships will be checked for people smuggling, which is illegal in the Noodle Republic. We advise you not to waste your money on Slaves, they will just end up as citizens of our nation and some of your merchants may be imprisoned. We would also like to note that if the Golden Horde attacks the Noodle Republic that your trade income would be cut off for a substancial amount of time. Consider wisely.

What's the big deal? You guys are fighting over commoners! They can't even shoot fire from their hands!

Embargo lifted on China-Japan as they don't trade in Slaves. We apologize for this error that our diplomats have made.

As the Kingdom of Iceland-Norway has already payed for a shipment of Brunei slaves, and both Crimson Indonesia and Brunei agreed to the treaty, the KIN will provide naval support to Crimson Indonesia against the Noodle Republic, who appears to wish to destroy Brunei's national sovereignty.

Brunei obviously agreed to the treaty under duress, as such we will not support it.
