My hero is...

As an aside, if I were to chose a hero from Scottish history, then it would be James I, who was imprisoned for nearly twenty years of his reign, or James II, who was blown up when one of his own cannons exploded during a siege.

Gauss.

His intellect spanned all physics and math. IMHO he makes Newton look like a sissy little biatch.
Yeah I agree that he's better than Newton, but lots of people spanned the two (very very closely related) subjects of Maths and Physics (though few have so many things named after them as Gauss). Including Newton for that matter (he "invented" "calculus"). IMO someone like Descartes was better. But he's your hero so I won't complain.

Anyway, I wanna be just like Jesus when I'm grown up. He's my hero

My fave science guy is probably Bose, cos he got his name before Einstein :goodjob:

One admires different aspects of many individuals - statesmen, commanders, warriors, fictional characters, performers and composers of correct music, leaders. One could list many names that would probably raise the ire of some.

But the major hero of SD would have to be...

Leif Garrett. He shows what can be accomplished with no discernable talent outside a vapid pretty face and goldilocks. To be able to acheive a modicum of success out of such a mediocre base with the right niche marketing is an inspiration to us all.

I like "El Cid". If you have ever seen the movie with Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren you would probably agree. :)

If you have not, do so! It is a great movie. Pathetic and full of honor and that stuff, but hey, just watch it, it is full of knightly virtues and valor. :)

Sidenote: The historical "El Cid" was more of a standard mercenary, slaughtering only for personal profit. He did nothing "heroic" at all. Yet he became a spanish national hero.

One wonders if history will ever portray modern day dictators as heros one day *shivers*.

I'm sorry, but it is just awesome that this topic is usually directly above the "Shirtless Women" topic.

Pushah, Liebniz invented calculus you biased little Brit. ;)
:p that's why I put "invented" and "calculus" in inverted commas ;)

 would it be against the forum rules to keep it that way? :mischief:

Nah. It's more awesome that "Ten things you'd like to see more of in 2005" is right above the "Shirtless Women" thread.

Very interesting responses indeed, all of you.

But let me pose a new question - Who is the opposite of your hero? Who, in your opinion, is the scum of the earth?

Pol Pot, perhaps, but there are too many evil people to pick from.

Mother Theresa to answer B Boy's question. I'd consider her my anti-hero. (not necessarily the scum of the earth, these are two different things).

Bugs Bunny, of course.

My father.

He didn't ask for your anti-hero. He asked for the opposite of your hero or scum of the Earth.

unless you think Mother Theresa is the opposite of Gauss

Well, she's the opposite of what I'd consider a hero in general. (the oppsite of Gauss would probably be someone like Hulk Hogan).

Mr. T.

Possibly.

He teaches you moral values like... kicking people's asses if they look at you funny, and shooting AROUND people instead of at them... that and drinking milk... lots of milk... milk with knock-out drugs.

Buffy:

Because she kicks ass and she even came back from the dead :)

Avril:

Because it takes courage to be so goddamn cute!

Honestly, I don't believe that such a thing as a "hero" exists..
