Nelson, Wellington, Churchill, Thatcher ?

Don't all British Prime Ministers get a state funeral?

You silly man, Hitler was a left-winger.
Nazi stands for National Socialist .

Oh, you fool! Nationalism can only be right-wing!

I don't think Thatcher or Atlee deserve(d) to get a state funeral. In order to get into that prestigious catergory your going to have to do something extraordinary like Nelson, Wellington and Churchill did! I'm glad there is still instituitions in Britain which give out state funerals for truely outstanding services to the country, compared to the OBE which is given out to everyone it seems . Although atm it looks like you have to either beat the French or the Germans on the sea or in the battlefield to get one .

If royalty still gets state funerals, even the worst of Prime Ministers should as well.

Poor Argentines, no one cares about them :(

Aye i did consider the Falkland's war but Argentina is too weak and pathetic and so far away to seriously harm us unlike the French under Napoleon, the Nazis etc.

But they did seriously harm us...

After her ******** sado-monetarist policies she was headed for electoral oblivion.
If those dingbats hadn't invaded, she would have had no fig leaf to hide behind.

If not for the groundswell of pathetic "we beat up a third world nation" huzzanga going on - another indication of how low morale was after a few years of her policies - our country might be in a better state now.

And Tatch, I mean, Cameron is trying to do the same. Bash on the EU, look like a tough man in front of the Argentine barbarians, and generate unemployment as a way fo solving the problems caused by unemployment. Rinse and repeat.

Heh, I notice all US presidents get state funerals, a cynic might believe that a lot of Americans believe presidents are USA royalty.

I find it rather rude to plan for a funeral for someone who is not yet dead.

Yes they should wait until she is dead before having a funeral.

How else will be getting a state funeral.
Major, Blair?

Margaret þatcher should get a state funeral and be honored by every free country in Central and Eastern Europe.

Blair and Brown are both keen on Thatcher getting a state funeral which leads one to believe that they must be pushing for the same for themselves.
Unlike US presidents UK PMs are not head of state, so should not have state funerals.

That assumes that a Thatcher left unconfined for any amount of time will stay dead.

No, cynic isn't the right word for people who think that.
"Hamiltonian"?

You silly man, Hitler was a left-winger.

I suppose that explains the fact that the NSDAP completely ousted the SPD and KPD electorally, while simultaneously leaving the nationalist and liberal parties largely unaffected.

Their flag was mostly red, too. And Mussolini was a member of the Socialist Party before founding fascism. And I think I've read someone who called fascism/nazism 'deformations of socialism' or something similar.

As our resident Thatcher-hunter, what is needed to kill her? I was thinking silver, but perhaps coal might be more appropriate.

Plus, Hitler and Stalin both had moustaches. Coincidence?

I'd go with both, just to be sure.

The invaded the same country in Eastern Europe as well. Coincidence?

I THINK NOT! :ack:

This is deeply doubtful. 1982 and 1983 were years of economic recovery, in particular a precipitous fall in inflation from ~20% to ~8%. Unemployment stayed high, but inflation loomed particularly large in the public mind. Combined with economic growth public opinion on Thatcher's economic policies was hardly condemnatory at election time. And even if it were, things were getting better; Thatcher could have delayed the election by almost nine months.

Combined with the utter dis-organization of the Labour opposition, and the fact that Labour was on the wrong side of public opinion on almost every significant issue (for instance, nationalization and nuclear disarmament) I see little chance that Thatcher be defeated in 1983. She might have won by less of a majority than if the Falklands had not occurred, but diminished majority and defeat are two very different things. The belief that the Falklands was the only reason for a further fourteen years of Tory government is foolish fantasy.
