Was mistaken about posting my turnset will do that after the next one.
Will comment more after the others have discussed about this.

Commando the link to the save file doesn't work will you post it again please?

@nerovats; is it a good idea to have a lot of spare settlers, ie 4-5 fortified in a city waiting for a free spot?

Building spare settler to fill in gaps can be a good strat when 2 other civs are at war and raze eachother cities. In the first deity game I won, I shared a large continent with 2 other civ which did just that. Without participation in that war I was able to expand my empire over more then half the continent, just by settling the razed cities asap.

In this case it won't work that well. When going to war we need units, and lot's of them we're not strong enough to expand and war at same time. Maybe if we got rid of 1 AI, we could start buildling settlers while finishing off the second AI.

Well in that case is a 4-turner much more important than a 6-turner? Since Madrid will soon be either building units or infrastructure, it shouldn't matter so much whether its a 4'er or a 6'er should it?

Fixed. Had a leading blank before the file name and no underscore between '550' and 'BC'.

Ofcourse it matters wether or not Madrid is a 4 or 6 turner. Not anymore for the cities we already build but there still are gaps and also after or near the end of the war it's a huge difference to get a settler every 4 turns in stead of 6, it's 50%!

Also depends, we might not want to go to war, but fill in gaps, get ships and try to settle other islands/continents. Could also change it to a worker farm to join those in other cities which ar poductive but don't grow fast enough. That way we could stay in peace.

Beef Bayford,
If you're not able to play, I'll be able to play either tomorrow morning or Wednesday morning (CST). Let us know.

Not much happened in my turn set. I wasn't able to get all of details of the turns because I had to get ready for work. Here is what I have:
Turn 1- Moved Settler pair S
Moved worker stack closer to Incense
IBT- Murcia-worker>swordsman (30 turns)
Turn 2- Moved Settler pair S
Worker stack are 2 turns away from the Incense
Madrid- Settler>Settler (6 turns)
IBT- Changed slider to 0.6.4 to prevent riots, The Republic still 15 turns away
Vikings will trade HBR for WM & 100 gold, nothing else
Turn 3- Moved Settler pair S
Salamanca- swordsman>swordsman (10 turns)
IBT- English are in Viking territory
Turn 4- Barcelona- swordsman>swordsman (5 turns)
Worker stack have roaded to
IBT- Seville- Granary>Swordsman (10 turns)
Ivory City- Swordsman>Swordsman (6 turns)
Turn 5- Founded Santander on Purple Dot, where Iron is
Santander- barracks (40 turns) can be changed
Worker stack on Incense
IBT- English now have HBR
Turn 6- Valencia- worker>granary (60 turns), can be changed
Madrid- settler>settler (6 turns)
Vitoria- worker>temple(30 turns), I don’t want it to be flipped
Moved slider to 1.6.3 now that we have Incense.
IBT- Barcelona- swordsman>swordsman (5 turns)
Turn 7- zzz
IBT- Zaragoza- Warrior>worker (5 turns)
Turn 8- Moved settler closer to light blue dot , and to put a city between core & Valencia.
Turn 9- Founded Jaen
Turn 10- Founded Logrono
I think The Republic is due in 6 turns, so I didn't slow down the progress there. I'm not sure if I placed the second city that was supposed to go on the light blue dot, at the right place.

Soon we will need to consider where to place our FP and/or whether or not we wish do a palace jump.

With an FP we get a second set of core cities that have great production and greatly lower corruption. If we build an FP it takes forever because we will be building it in a city of high corruption, since it will be a long distance away from our capital.

If we build it in Madrid, or close by, we can later move our palace and immediately have two strong cores, if we can predict where our new palace will be and have a set of cities waiting for it.

CivAssist has a Palace Jump calculator, so we can determine our new capital. The question then becomes where to place it.

Right now, the best locations for a new capital are in Viking or English territories. Once we get them trimmed down to size, we can begin to plan our second core.

Below are three possible places for a new capital (RCP=4):

Trondheim
550BC_RCP4_TrondheimReTrimmed.jpg

York
550BC_RCP4_YorkReTrimmed.jpg

West Oslo
550BC_RCP4_WestOsloReTrimmed.jpg

And all three suffer from the same three problems. First, the land north and west of Trondheim (and thus most of Viking-land) is jungle. It will take a great many worker turns to make this land productive. Second, England is shaped like a triangle, pointing away from the Vikings. That is not too bad, but the third problem is compounded by it. And that is that the mountain ranges that form part of the Purple-Orange border limit the location of good city sites in that area. For our usage, a greater part of England is non-productive (outside of the second ring) no matter where we place the FP/capital.

One reason in discussing the FP now is to decide where we want to put it and which cities will keep or raze when we war with Ragnar and Elizabeth. I would like to keep as many conquered cities as possible, just so we do not have to build them. How many we keep and which ones we keep is determined by where we place our second core.

Before deciding where to put the FP, we'll first need to take the land. Rings are not neccesary for the FP, no razing neded for that. Razing could be usefull to lower flip chances tho. I think some discussion is still needed on how to procede. Keep peace and FP in north, war and claim continent, FP in south. Use palace jump or hope for leader? How to contact the other AI....

It's not? Well, that changes everything for the good. :D

Whichever way we go, FP in the north or south, we still need to build an FP for the production improvement. If we build it in the south it will take a long time (at least 50 turns) unless we get a leader. If we build it in the north, we can build it faster, but it has less of an effect, unless we move our capital.

I am not sure which one is better.

When jumping the palace we would need to create a new ring in the south. Ods look reasonable of getting a leader before this continent is ours. But it's a gamble ofcourse.

Is Azzaman still playing? If not, Commando should play.

Azzaman hasn't posted a got it, so we should keep this going, ever since civ4 things slowed down a lot, also in other SG's.

If you guys like it I could post how far I got in about the save time. Said this before but changed my mind as it might spoil this game a bit. On other hand it might give you more insight which was the goal of this SG.

Will leave this up to the team.

I continued my original save and I've played the teams save from about 1000BC if I remember correctly. Will try to take out most of the spoiling info. Both saves I played until contacting all AI.

Sorry all I'm dropping out of all SG's. Don't have enough time to play Civ anymore, hopefully I'll be able to make my return to the game in a few weeks but until then, thanks for having me and adios!

I'm also dropping out. I've decided that im going to put my effort into Civ 4, apart from the Civ3 GOTMs. Sorry about my lack of playing. Homework took my time and now im at a place with little internet access for a holiday. Sorry about dropping out.

So, that leaves just Commando & me.
Unless, a lurker wants to join.
Commando, you're up!

I've got the save; will try to play tonight.
