NES World/Regional Maps Requests Thread

I probably should stop doing this by now, but... Panda? :p

And a fitting Post №7000 it is. I was thinking the same thing about your NES dying. Surely SOMETHING good should come out of it... And I do have many 20th century ideas I require that map for.

Alas, poor Luckymoose has only a tenth of that. ;) Cheer up, mate! Post count is nothing!

...

And everything.

I was working on ways to create a decent GalCiv2 galaxy map this morning, since I've become utterly hateful of said game's random generator. While figuring out how to do it decently and plotting it out, I got bored and decided to see what could be done in the way of making a galaxy map.

Using this Star Wars map, which I'm not all that terribly inclined to, I nonetheless made this:

Example.png

My version is much bigger, encompassing the whole galaxy (and 1.5MB - it doesn't quite look right in .gif, though I guess with some fiddling that might be fixed). I don't particularly like the symbols but they work enough for an example. I only did the center five sectors though. I guess you could label things on the map, but that'd get rather cluttered. So here are the coordinates:

Spoiler Coordinates :
Coruscant Sector (7,6)
- Ruan (Zone 4,1) Blue
- Broest (Zone 5,2) White
- Z'trop (Zone 4,3) White

- Garos (Zone 10,14) Yellow
- Merson Asteroid Field (Zone 5,10) None

Corellia Sector (8,7)
- Sarcophagus (Zone 1,1) White
- Sluudren (Zone 8,1) Orange
- Corellia (Zone 10,2) Yellow
- Umgul (Zone 14,2) Orange
- Dargul (Zone 10,6) Blue
- Nimban (Zone 11,12) Red

The Deep Core (7,7)
- Byss (Zone 5,4) Yellow

Lambda Sector (6,7)

- Tulin (Zone 8,7) White
- Clak'dor (Zone 13,3) Red
- Nimakou Quintus (Zone 12,2) Red
- Funurui (Zone 7,2) Yellow
- Gas Cloud #098055 (Zone 7,1) None

I suppose the best way to work out borders would be to color-code stars to their respective owners and list that behind their coordinates. I have rather too many projects on my plate already, and Star Wars isn't really my thing, but if somebody else (Dachs? Alex?) is interested I could hand off the pieces and give a description of how to do it.

The base would also be handy for all sorts of other maps. Star Trek, Warhammer 40,000 (some resources), whatever.

Not bad, though I'm not very interested...

So, Panda... I think this is at the very least my fifth reminder, and I won't be surprised if its the tenth, but how much progress on the map last ~90 hours?

How did you know I liked star wars...

You and Dachs are only ever yammering on about the latest book and Timothy Zahn or Thrawn or whatever. :p I must be psychic!

I was bored so I decided to update the ITNES map from the last update to the new world map. Took longer than I expected, but not too long. However, I did run into a couple problems:
1) There appears to be no Khmer (or whoever is in S. E. Asia) capital.
2) I see no Khazar (or whoever is north of the Black Sea) capitl.
3) And since on the old map the Chinese rivers are so screwy I am not sure whether to put the N. Chinese border all the way up to the Amur or wether to follow the flow of the river on the old map as the Chinese border.

Any suggestions? (After I get answers for these I will post the finished map)

1) Not a mistake; it was burnt to the ground in their latest war.
2) They're steppe nomads.
3) I was also unsure what to do with this (since I got decently far into making my own ITNES map)...

This map features the most recent version of the collective map I know of, including the recent and still not universal changes to the Caribbean islands, the Mississippi delta, and the addition of the Irawady River. I didn't do this map in das's nor my style exactly. Here are the stylistic features:

1) Borders between countries are thick, all others are thin (including between China and the SARs and between each of the SARs).
2) Cities, except for capitals and trade centers which are drawn as das does them, are two by two squares/dots.
3) Fortifications are one by one squares/dots.
4) Colors are generally darker and less grey in mine than in das's.
5) Due to a combination of my normal style when making other maps and the differences between the world map used in the original and the current map, the borders in certain places may be slightly different and tend to be more complex.

Also, I changed some of the names of the barbarians, namely:

1) The Tungus to the Evenks as par modern convention (Tungus is generally considered moderately to severly (depending on whom you ask) offensive).
2) The Caribs to the Taino, Lucaya, Timucua, and Calusa of, respectively, Jamaica/Hispaniola, the Bahamas, and Florida (Timucua and Calusa are both in Florida).
3) The Turks in Mongolia to the Donghu.

Thirdly, some of the islands in the Indonesian Archipeligo and in Melanesia that were added in the new map I was a little iffy with as to whether or not to give them to the Khmer. I ended up giving Yos Sardoso to the Khmer but limiting the Khmer holdings in Melanesia to those shown on the original map.

Finally, I had trouble doing the northern border of the non-Hong Kee SAR due to the horrific position of the Yangtzee in the original map. I mention this in particular because of the large difference between the original and the new border caused by the position of the Yangtzee.

Spoiler :

I don't think we'd see das using that map; it's just too far off from his original style...

You can easily change most of the things, like city sizes, forts sizes, border thickness, and type font. The style of the borders may be harder to fix, I did try my best to make them simpler, but I found it surprisingly incredibly hard to force myself to make smoother lines than I am used to.

But your style and his are so different... you might as well redo the whole map. O_o

Not you, personally, since I happen to have a copy of a near-completed map on my hard drive.

Tungus is generally considered moderately to severly (depending on whom you ask) offensive

By whom? Chicago Jews? :p To the best of my knowledge, both terms are in use here, and they are called Tunguts in most historical atlases I use.

Agree with NK - nice try, though. Also, the nation on the Volga is Hunnia.

All in all, it is a good map, just so jarringly different that I don't think I'd want to use it. :p
