NES2 VI - Last Semblance of Order.

We offer Venice a new trading ally, The Papal States another Catholic nation, Portugal a New Iberian Ally and a way to hit back at Spain, Spain and France a buffer zone between each other. England a trading partner, Ireland a Catholic ally, Scotland a trading partner, the Ottomans a potential ally(for once) The Asian Powers and African powers a potential ally and way to make a statment in Europe.

Recognize us, we are a free and just people. Basque FOREVER!

The Ottoman Empire will recognize Basque, but first we would like to see the reactions to the other European nations, seeing as you are rather far away from Ottoma (is that right?) and the other European nations would know you better.

We fear French Imperialist Opressors and there Spainish cohorts will not allow the other nations to get to know us. It s a pitty really!

The Ottoman Empire has heard the truth about the Basque and their traitorous ways. You are nothing but terrorists seeking to undermine the great european empires and even sought to bring the great Ottoman Empire into your treasonous plots! The Basque, if it seceds, shall become an enemy of the Ottoman Empire.

ooc bad luck mate

Considering China's stance of non-intereference in European Affairs China does not recognize the so called Basque Rebellion and is of the opinion that any such attempt will be destroyed by the combined might of Spain and France. China frowns on any rebellions that attempts to rebel in the civilized World.

China encourages Spain and France to divide the nation of Andorra whose ambassador has kept throwing flaming apples into the Forbidden Palace. (:p)

The Kingdom of Greater Basque frowns upon being reffered to as a mear rebellion and detests China's warmongering.

The Qing Empire of China frowns upon being lectured by mere rebellions and upstart peasants.

Mongolia was an arid land by any standards, unless your standard was those of the Saharan Peoples to whom Mongolia would seem like paradise. It was once said that the only notable things Mongolia ever produced were Genghis Khan and hordes of excellent steppe horsemen. And the fact that Mongolia had been in most of China’s history a constant thorn at her side didn’t hurt either. And that was why the Great Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty was enjoying a nice tan under the harsh Mongolian Sun.

It was the annual gathering of the various Mongolian Tribes similar to a massive market day as Mongols from throughout well Mongolia gathered. They were there to show off who had the biggest oxen, the best tent, and the strongest children. And of course they went showing off their horsemanship as well as archery prowess something that the Mongols were extremely vain of. Prestige, wealth, and honor could all be gained at the annual festival. Usually the festival was attended by mostly Mongolians with a few Chinese seeking to sell some delicious snacks.

This year however, the presence of several thousand Chinese crack troops was a tad disturbing. Of course, the Chinese merchants had a field day supplying food to the soldiers even though they couldn’t find out why they were here. The Mongolians of course in their typical arrogance scoffed and refused to answer any questions but to any keen eye some of the lower ranking Mongolians were just as mystified.

You see, the Qing Dynasty has always maintained an active and very good intelligence service in the Empire to see if any ethnicities were discontent with Qing Rule and whether or not they planned to do something about it. The purpose of the intelligence agency wasn’t to “purge” traitors or people following superstitions such as Islam, Christianity and so on. It was just information gathering or at least that’s what all the Confucian and Civil Officials were told.

That same apparatus had detected that the Mongolians were discontent with Qing rule because they were well Mongolians and thought themselves as the rightful inheritor of the mantle of Genghis Khan. Of course, that was mostly wistful thinking. But they really shouldn’t have been thinking in the first place, that was the Qing Emperor’s job. So this show of force was supposed to intimidate most of the Mongolians or so they thought. It actually made the younger Mongolians angry since they were furious that the Emperor would think they would be so easily intimidated.

However, in reality it seems that the Mongolians were indeed wrong. You see while Emperor Qianlong is a brilliant General and leaders of armies, he’s just as good as a diplomat. Some problems are better solved with words and shaking hands then guns and bullets. Okay, in this case a bow and arrow. In case you may not have noticed, Mongolians are obsessed with their horsemanship and archery skills shown by the annual festival’s competition. The point of the competition would be to shoot at various targets over a larger distance of land across many different types of obstacles.

The winner won nothing such as gold or silver, but instead won great prestige and honor two things which meant the same thing to Mongolians. Now if you’re a smart chap you should know what’s going to happen next. Yep, Emperor Qianlong entered that competition and won. Amazing how being an Emperor and how his enemies all tended to have “accidents” such as their horse falling over in mid gallop gave him great victory. Very auspicious omens for a Heavenly Khan, you don’t mess with a guy who’s lucky.

Of course, since the Emperor won had naturally got all that prestige and honor with the honor of a huge banquet thrown by the Mongolian Tribal Chiefs swearing eternally loyalty to Emperor Qianlong. (He noticed how they swore eternal loyalty to him and not the Qing Dynasty) Another fine example of Asian Diplomacy even though the harder part is to come, to convince the Han Chinese Majority that the Qing Dynasty wasn’t crazy.

And to find some people to dra-send to Europe to study in their famous universities but that was a secondary concern. Emperor Qianlong was doing absolutely great even though the Ambassador from Andorra kept on trying to throw flaming apples at him. Where he got the apples in such large quantities was something the intelligence apparatus was still working on.

From the Ottoman Empire
To Qing Empire of China

Sultan Osman IV would liek to extend his most humble greetings the Emperor of China Qianlong. This greeting of course is not without cause, the cause being to establish a better relationship between our to Empires. It has come to the attention of Osman IV that many untruths have seemingly found their way to the Chinese people. Osman IV would like to clear these untruths up quickly at, let's say, a friendly meeting between our two rulers. This way these untruths can be cleared up and perhaps a few deals struck. What say you?

Don't forget about adding all those diplomatic arrangements to the orders, as usual...

The Basques just rebelled against two of the world's greatest powers. Would be amusing if they win...

The kingdom of Ireland asks France to agree upon a protection pact.

From: Pope Innocent XIV
To: Kingdom of Greater Basque

Your boldness is an admirable trait, but it will be your downfall. We have withdrawn any idea of recognition...you cannot succeed against two grand Catholic powers AND have your only ally be a Muslim state that is an enemy to all of Europe, and expect much support.

From: Pope Innocent XIV
To: Spain

We can agree to this, and we can also agree that Iggy will be quite po'ed.

Nation Background: England once had - and probably still has - the potential to become a great power on the level with France, but the two Civil Wars in the 1640s ruined it all. The worsening economical situation and the incompetent handling of the war with Scottish rebels have caused the conflict between King Charles I and his Parliament to turn into a full-fledged war, the first of which the Parliamentarian forces won, thanks to the leadership of Oliver Cromwell. But Cromwell's attempts to retake the rest of the British Isles caused a Second English Civil War, as the French used this opportunity to forever remove the English threat. King Charles I, who had fled to France, has raised an emigre army to assist the French and their Gaelic allies, and in the end this coalition defeated the English Commonwealth. The monarchy that was restored was a very unpopular one, and at times could only survive with French backing; the worst came when in 1699, during an international crisis in Italy, a radical revolution overthrew Charles IV. The revolutionary dictatorship of the Second Commonwealth, however, didn't have enough time to consolidate its power - the Royalists regroupped in Wales around the Queen-Regent Elizabeth II and the French, having hastily withdrawn from Italy, also struck. The Commonwealth was defeated, and England became more reactionary than ever before, also having to cede Dover to France. The revolutionaries have been getting more and more support since then, and indeed are still waging a terror campaign against the King.

My dear readership, doubtless you have heard the many and various stances taken by the government, parlementarians, and numberous pundits wise and foolish, French and Spanish about the Basque 'situation' as some term it. While elsewhere in our estimed pages can your find some impartial summary of those views on the situation. Here we wish to study the lighter side of the matter, with a brief retelling of the reponse of the Qing Chinese Government to the news.

We doubt China will have to stir its lethargic self to take a stance, the matter is likely to be resolved before news of it reaches the far east. Of course China, as a good little autocrat frowns on the people making themselves heard! The Basque incident is regretable and foolish; we are sure that the reasonable monarchs of Spain and France would have listened to the peoples greivences and a compromise that does not involve bloody rebellion could be worked out.

As for the suggestion that Andorra be partitioned for a mere transgression of their ambassador is shocking, but only to be expected of the yet un-nauced Chinese foreign policy. Not only does it show they are little used to dealing with civilized states; have they never heard of diplomatic immunity? But it also shows their remarkable ignorance of European affairs, as the current Princes of Andorra are none less than the noble and gracious King Julien-François of France, and the wise Bishop of La Seu d'Urgell! In truth Andorra already IS partitioned between France, Spain and the Catholic church. Any man claiming to be the ambassador of Andorra is but a Charlatan who has managed to dupe the apparently simple minded Qing Court!

On other lighter subjects; a fisherman off the Cornish coast in England claims to have caught a fish with a head at both ends! Perhaps this will liven up the English cuisine, for apparently nothing else will...

OOC:why do people always mock english food, its the best in the world not like that foreign crap
