NES2 VI - Last Semblance of Order.

From: Krakowian Senate
To: Grosskanzler von Barkenburg

It just so happens that the war, despite your bungling, has not yet been lost completely. The situation might still be saved, as might our great country, if you agree to step down now.

That much is true, yes.

Somewhere in Western Prussia...

It was a quiet afternoon, too quiet. The only noice was that of shovels pushing dirt out of a hole large enough for a coffin. and why not, it was meant for a coffin. The dead man had been the most powerful in the nation, but he was not given a state funeral. oh no, he had been lucky as to have any sort of funeral. luckily enough he was rather wealthy and very adored by those by him. There were several woman mourning, but the majority were officers of the Guard. Among them the Marshall of it, he knew the war was not lost, but had sworn to fight for the Granchancellor, even if he didnt listen to his advice on military affairs!.

By the coffin stood a young man, no older than thirty. As it turns out he was the only son of the dead man. His name was Frederick, and held the same last name as his father. As the coffin was lowered and the priest said the last words and the officers saluted one last time, this "boy" would not allow his family name to be erased from history, nor denied his destiny.

SOMEWHERE IN THE EASTERN FRONT..

The Guard were fixing their brocken down uniforms and polishing their boots. They always had faith on the granchancellor when it came to military events, but this one simply had allowed the whole front to collapse!. some were angry and had to be reminded of their oath very often. The old battle standards and flags disapeared as the new state attemtped to burn them as they held the initials of the old Chancellor, not the new one. The once proud guard held barely to its former glory and honor. The army was also in the same situation, but held more towards the new Grand Chancellor.

"Damn it soldiers!, you all did the same oath as me!" The Guard marshall screamed to his subordinate soldiers (this was a most rare of occations, but the marshall allowed it because he felt just like they did). The officers would reply by "the oath was never to this new chancellor!", "yeah!, it was for von Dunkelheit!".
"So? he is dead!..... those rumors are likely to be false! false!" the marshall replied.
"But why would he kill himself?" The soldiers replied back.

Then from the horizon, a group of around twenty were moving towards the camp. These men looked ordinary as they held the same uniforms. What set them appart was that they were carring the old battle flags and the honor titles of the Guard.

The marshall knew the person leading the group, it was Frederick, known to everyone else as Frederick RotBerger. he had been an officer and fough with much distinction in the Guard during all of the wars. He had kept his origins secret as not to be treated differently.

"young man, you know i can have you arrested and shot this instant?, i have orders to do so if those flags are ever found!" the marshall said as he smiled.

Frederick addressed the crowd of officers, high and low ranks.

"Fellow guard members, i too fought on your side, you all know me. BUt i am not Frederick Rotberger, i am in Fact Frederick von Dunkelheit, his only son.
We didnt really made our out to any GrandChancellor, we made it to one man. ANd now he is being erased from books and streets that bear his name?. I ask you, every single one of you, to join me and fight as you did for me. To continue the oath and fight if necessarily to the death together!.

And the response of the Guard was.... (i dunno, i am not the mod!)

Rejoining, then? Well, that makes things very interesting (as most of the GotGC will support such an action) - the Krakow Union just MIGHT get a third spotlight in a row if some other promising developments continue to be... promising, for the onlookers though not at all so for the people.

Btw, is this by any means inspired by an OTL incident in Strasbourg 1836?

(ooc) well i wouldnt have done so if Krakow wasnt crushed and held such defeat-minded leaders.

No, is more of a combination of the 100 days of napoleon and Shakespeares julious Ceasar

IC:
From von Dunkelheit:
To: The army :

The guard is on my side, what side are my fellow countrymen ? On the side of "Grosskanzler" von Barkenburg? the man who has in paper surrendered your lands to Russia?. I am sure you all can make your own decisions, as i fought in battle with all of you.

Problem is, your "Napoleon" is dead, hence the Strasbourg comment.

The army, btw, is yet undecided.

OOC: Wait...what the hell just happened in Krakow? das, can you update my ruler? Dead men don't control countries, normally. (Although Krakow could be seen as an exception right now...;))

TO: Pope Leo XII
FROM: Basilissa Irene II Palaeologus

Of what Emperor do you speak? There is no basileus of Byzantium.

Dead men don't control countries, normally.

His ghost wanders somewhere in the palace and still pulling all the strings, as it happens.

von Dunkelheit Is Dead, Long love von Dunkelheit!
I admire the man, but that's asking a bit much. ;)

To: von Dunelheit
From: von Barkenburg

Are you aware of the mal-content among the ethnic groups of the former Krakow Union? The Polish and the Hungarians want independence! I urge all to follow me: I will create a Prussian state and make every effort to create independent Polish and Hungarian states.

From: Pope Leo XII
To: Byzantine Empire

A grammatical error...we present the same proposal to the BASILISSA of Byzantium :p

OOC: For the record, the only Ruling Empress of Byzantium, [the real] Irene, used "Basileus" rather than "Basilissa".

The Pope stands by his grammatical error then ;)
