For favorite moments, I have to agree with 1786. My thoughts during the leadup to that turn were mostly "the world is going to hell".

Since it's over, might as well discuss it: I had mostly pulled the neutrality bit to get Storm to redeploy precisely as he did. We were just waiting for him to redeploy elsewhere. China taking over India was of great concern conceptually, but I was already suspicious of them for their constant refusal to act against Russia (China offered to work for both sides in WWI) and the various activities going on all around China. Once the reports came back that China was behind the Manchurians, that was the final straw, and I was suddenly forced to attack both China and Russia on the same turn.

That was one of the most shocking moments for me; how quickly they went down. I did not expect it to go anywhere near that fast. I still don't know for sure if China was behind all the rebels, or whether Russia had some part in it too, or if it was someone else entirely, but I do notice those Pirates never came back and the Sumatran rebels collapsed pretty quickly...

As for the gas, well, I have very fond memories of Nerve Gas in Alpha Centauri...

"Our combat odds are 148:24. Do you wish to engage? Do you wish to engage Nerve Gas pods?"
"Engage Nerve Gas pods."
"Our combat odds are 19812:120. Do you wish to engage?"
"... Yes."

I was looking to rolling out Char B1 and Spitfire equivilents though. A pity. ;)

what is with you and snorting? Pigs do that you know

What kinda answer to a question is that? dont dance around the issue just answer!

While it would be interesting to discuss, I think it would best to close this thread lest we anger the Naz-errrr mods.

Best Unsung Leader: Lord_Iggy - while the rest of the world fought its wars, Iggy led Canada to independence and prosperity; its probably the nicest country to live in in this world today, both because others are wrecked by wars and terrorism and because of Canada's social programs.
Well, that's what I was shooting for.

Great NES das!

Most Unique Nation- That one makes me the most proud.

Most Rebellious and Least Persistant were only a reflection of circumstances in this game, but i'll take em.

ANd i must protest a part of your update. It makes no historical/contextual sense for SCOTLAND to take Iceland and Greenland in this NES. Ireland was the nationalistic imperialist one and was so autonomous and ready for rebellion it would have quickly been able to seize Iceland and Greenland, which it has had its eyes on for close to 30 years.

I DEMAND a change. NOW!

beautiful das, for my first nes ever, I aplaud you in making it forever rememberable, thank you:)

Or note the link at the top of this very page. :p

Most Surprising: Segu - I didn't expect it to neither win so much early on, nor to give up so easily.

Well, it was kinda hard to fight on when I was losing a 100 divisions a turn and was seriosuly hamped by the tech diffrences. Basically, I was planning to fight as long as Russia- and (after he attacked) the Byzantines did. But since they gave up early on, there was no chance of me even suriving the next turn.

Actually, this IT never really took off for me and I have a pretty good idea why and what I could have done to, at least try, to prevent.

For me the problems were in three different areas and before I mention what they are, then I'd like to point out no disrespect to Panda who seemingly accomplished the impossible.

First off the tech pace. It was just too fast for me. My most enjoyable periods are from 1100-1900. Once machineguns, tanks, planes, subs etc enter the scene my interest wanes dramatically. Considering the year we were in it seems a very rapid progress indeed. Never really figured out what those Jap Death Ray machines were.
The second thing was the lack of a Balance of Power. With France, EUA and Japan together there was really nothing to do in the long run The situation was so that I basically felt that you either followed France or got destroyed. Point in case being that attack in the end without a real casus belli because they didn't like the way Scandinavia developed in a more peaceful way. The obvious solution would have been for me to join with Russia and Britain and get Byzantium to our side from the start. That would have given us a fighting chance. If Brazil also entered it might be even better. Much would, of course, depend on continued EUA neutrality. I should have overthrown my francophile PM early in the game and done it :p Well, lesson learned.
Finally, I found it amazing how docile the conquered nations were. Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany... I know that politics and massive military presence can accomplish much, but still. Napoleon needed a massive amount of troops to keep the situation in Spain tolerable and even today there is massive regional pride. The English were beated by the American colonists (granted, they had some French help, but still). I'm just shocked that it was so easy to keep peace in so many territories and crush the rebellions so easily, but there might be something behind the scenes I'm unaware of.

Oh, and the casualty rates. Economy dropped every now and then, but with the numbers of young men getting killed and/or maimed it looks like some of the warring nations should have had a very large war weariness (can be countered) and suffer a lot after the war due to lack of workers. But maybe that's just me :p
