NESLife attempt #3

Charles Li, Stalked carefullly into the Attack Tranel Forest. They Aren't doing very well but any scrap of a Dragon's Claw unearthed part of it's supersized Bulb. Li thought that he should meet Iggy and show the Penguins of his Friends. So he told Sarge'n' Drake "Mayhape give me a life please? Go'n' Yonder! Southwest please." Sarge'n' Growled, "Herre therre are Flyers!". Some lone Flyers, dazzeled by tthe scales for millions of tiny creatures, dived at him. "Fly a twist and do the Fly'n Du'chm'n!" The Dragons flew away, but a younger one got slashed in the wing. Cap'in Welter Divd only to find the young cadet surrounded by attack tranels and a welt from a startled and weak SkullScraper. The Grove Was burned, and Charles was sad, but they ate more of the weird, Garlic/carrot tasting Attack Tranel Bulbs as they waited for the Dragon to Rouse.

*Note, the young Dragons are only about 5 meters long, I am usin 3rd person.*

I await eagerly to find out how tasty the Certanops and Kipinus are, or how edible they might be.

Cool new stuff, and great stories :D

Era 20: Mass Extinction #3:

Lord_Iggy, Charles Li, Thlayli and LittleBoots eat everything (until being infected by the Infil-cult larvae in their food...)

Our scientists took large quantities of mind-bending drugs in order to create this realistic reconstruction:

Announcementx0rz: I meant to say that the land in this game should be full of all kinds of little tiny 'insects' and stuff, so some creatures could now have 'insect eating' or something in order to survive. Though, that might just be for something specialised, like a real-life anteater. I'll be taking into account that pretty much anything with 'flesh eating' will be able to get some nourishment from occasional insects too. Especially if the animal is lively and quick enough to catch them. And obviously the insects will be mostly found in wet areas, with fewer in deserts and mountains.

Also, I might have said earlier that there's no 'plankton' down on the deep ocean floor, but i've realised that there is real-life zooplankton(?) that live in the depths, away from sunlight. So im going to backtrack and say that some plankton can be found there, but still not much compared to the surface.

@Lord Iggy, Volaticyte sounds cool! I'd be tempted to put 'claws' and 'talons' in the same category (so that would be claws x3), unless you wanted to keep them separate.

two things,

1) does anyone has a species i can evolve

2) does my gene bonus carry over from last update

@flamingzaroc121, you can use that bonus if you want. And i scrapped the rule about needing permission for stuff (though, if you base a creature on someone else's design and it does well, then the other person might get a bonus thing instead of you, especially if you don't change its lifestyle and just added efficiency etc etc).

I believe you mean my Sextupler not my Pentupler in the update as my Pentupler die out in the my mass extinction.

@c&cciv3, thanks for pointing that out, oops. I will edit that in the update.

Quite simply amazing pictures, especially the deep ocean pic with Bathyspires.

Thanks very much! I must say those pictures don't take long to do, really just some copy and paste in flash, then some experiments with various effects in the paint program i use.

I hope something like Scampi, that would be tasty :D

Sponggg

Lord_Uncrispy_Iggy
Genes Added: Fire-proof shield x2

Lord_Funny_Iggy
Genes Added: +1 Hat, +1 Socks
Genes Removed: -1 Loincloth, -1 Boots

Many thanks for putting my Evenprettius, Daft. :D

WIll get my new proper evo asap

Spoiler :
Fire Moss: NPC
Evolved from: Proto-Moss
Genes (17): Photosynthesis x6, Hibernation x1, Cold Resistance x1, Carpeting x1, Water Retention x4, Airborne Spores x2, Mass Reproduction x1, Regeneration x1
Description: Predictably, it has evolved better methods of surviving in dry conditions, but that is not all. In the event of damage from wildfires, or grazing by animals, it can also regenerate faster, which can help to prevent rival plant species from getting a foothold on its land. However, it can no longer grow in such dense carpets as before. This is perhaps so that each individual plant can have a greater chance of maturing and reproducing

Hearty Moss
Evolved from: Fire Moss
Genes (17): Photosynthesis x6, Hibernation x1, Cold Resistance x1, Carpeting x1, Water Retention x4, Airborne Spores x2, Mass Reproduction x2, Regeneration x1, Poison x2
Description: The Hearty Moss evolved because of the need for protection. Poison and better resistance to cold allow it to grow and spread more and more. Not only is it poisonous to eat, but the poison can be leaked onto surrounding plants in order to kill them.

Note the change

Certanops: tuxedohamm
Evolved from: Shellster Kipinus
Genes (18): Drifting x2, Plankton Eating x7, Spikes x1, Tentacle x1, Smelling x2, Cold Resistance x1, Swimming x2, Exoskeleton x1
Description: The Certanops evolved from the Shellster Kipinus after the mass extiction. With reduced levels of plankton it was easier to grow an exoskeleton and not waste so much energy producing the shell that had become a common sight on sea floors and beaches. This also allowed for better swimming which helped the species get to the plankton just slightly faster than before.

---

Koranops : tuxedohamm
Evolved from: Certanops
Gene added (you can add two): Eyes x1, Swimming x1
Gene removed (optional, max 2): [reminder: leave at least one gene for feeding/getting energy!]
Description (optional): Koranops have evolved a light sensitive area near their "mouth" which improves upon the smelling sense to allow Koranops to see both plankton and any predator threat. The Koranops has increased its swimming abilities to help it out run potential predators while maintaining its drifting ability to rest.

I have an interesting evolution planned in the next few updates barring any unforseen events. I just have to gear up for the interesting parts first. Hopefully the Koranops will be just as tasty as I imagine Certanops is.

I actually had the plan of evolving my Volaticytes a long time ago (back in June, if you recall Daft), and having their descendents shrink into insects. But I guess we can say that in this case the insects evolved from the Jubbler Family. Perhaps I'll add a second group of tiny arthropods in the future.

What do you think we could call the insects? Jubs? Or just plain insects?

Yuckius Hornius: BananaLee
Evolved from: Yuckius Evenprettius
Genes Added: +1 Flesh Eating, +1 Continuous Fertility (Mass Repro?)
Description: With the new lure which can attract anything within sight, the Yuckii began to have ova being produced more quickly, and more constantly. The noted lack of mating seasons (Yuckii mate ALL the time) suggest they actually enjoy the act of copulation - though this is something Penguin scientists have yet to determine.

Armtupler: c&cciv3
Evolved from: Hextupler
Genes (27): Crawling x2, Plant Eating x2, Flesh Eating x2, Complex Stomach x2, Claws x3, Cold Resistance x1, Communal Behavior x2, Brain Power x2, Eyes x1 Skeleton x1, Tough Skin x1, Water Retention x3, Tough Eggs x1, Parenting Instinct x1, Pack Hunting x1, Walking x1, Lungs x1
New Genes: Grasping Arms x1, Brain power x1, Lungs x1
Lost Genes: Cold resistance x1
Description: As time progressed, the hextupler changed. it's real legs, no longer used to propel it across the land, served no real purpose for a long time. but eventually, some of the smarter Hextuplers began to use these shriveling limbs to gasp small objects. Carrying one of their eggs to safety when somebody attacked a nest. bringing along some leftover food from a meal, to eat later. or bending a Tranel Branch down lower so some of the young ones could grab some fruit. Eventually, the decedents of these Hextupler's became known as the Armtuplers. They were smarter, and their once shriveling rear legs had developed into proper arms to grasp objects loosely. they Also developed slightly lungs to compensate for the extra effort the arms and their larger brains put on them.

OOC:
how i envision the arms. they evolved from the hexes rear limbs. can drag things behind the creature without interfering with it's walking. not very strong. maybe lift a pound or two off the ground. the can reach above the Armtupler.
I can also see them being used with the claws to effective use. hold a creature or one of it's limbs still long enough for the claws to be put to full effect.

BTW, I think talons should be separate genes than claws, but I can see your reasons for wanting them together. Ultimately, it's your call.

Meh, I guess that as long as my intentions go through, the stats don't really matter, so if simplicity is easier, take that path.

Iggy and Thlayli Eat Stuff: Iggy's Journal

Day 2

I woke up and ate a simple breakfast of fruits. Soon after this, I went on a long walk. To my delight, I ran into a group of Arices. Their presence in the Oranian forests suggested that I was quite close to the forest edge, for inside the damp vegetation Audorices were far more successful. I was very cautious around the Arices, remembering my last experience with a predatory Scuterid. Fortunately, the 'Don't Attack Iggy' gene seemed to have been engineered correctly for these animals' predecessors. They proved to be quite docile, and even playful around me, although the penguins must keep their distance.

I took this unique opportunity to follow the tribe. It often took me a light jog to catch up, but it was very much worth it.

I'm proud to say that it was I who spotted the group of Cronodids out at the forest's edge. I wiggled my fingers in a (frankly poor) imitation of a crest, and pointed. The Arices were somewhat confused at first, but one of them looked to where my hand was moving and noticed the heard.

Disregarding the Arices like for surprise attacks, I charged immediately, orange lightsabre drawn. I took down two quickly, and knocked over a third, which managed to right itself only a few seconds before the Arices arrived.

I bid farewell to the tribe (or to be more precise, put a dead Cronodid in my backpack and walked away) and returned to camp. The walk took quite a while.

Anyway, upon my return, I found that the penguins had foraged a variety of more plants, and prepared a deep frier (I assume they got the oil from the leftover Hextupler, or one of the planst). We prepared Cronodid meat and the last Hextupler leftovers in a wide variety of methods.

While the tastes varied, I found Cronodids to taste much better than Hextuplers. It had a consistent, firm texture and a very subtly sweet taste.

I spent the rest of the night working on equipment and snacking on deep-fried Cronodid. Where the heck is Thlayli?

*****

OOC: Thlayli, I think we should do days in our stories the same as real days. So you can write for day 3 tomorrow, if you want. Just to keep the order straight.

He marched down the coasts, following Thylai's track, and got attacked by rouge Reptili Species, with their week bite, he can just wonder at the mayhem the original meats that the LeapingScraper caused by tearing fibers off kills, but somehow they tried real prey(Daft you......) and they dissapeard, however, the anoying LandScraper was tearing his special Tranel boots up, and then, a group of the mobbed them and clambered up to eat the Bulbs, I retreat..

Daft? Can i get a new evolution?

Amacilndasa: NPC
Evolved from: Sandworm
Genes (4): Digging x1, Plankton Eating x2, Shell x2, Sacavenger 1x
Description: The Amacilndasa is an improvement over the Sandworm in the fact that aswell as being able to eat Plankton it can in times of desperation eat various carrion on the sand floor.

Cool stuff :D

@flamingzaroc121, the planet in this game has been enjoying high temperatures for the last two updates, and there is no ice at the poles right now. You can still have the cold resistance, just thought i should point that out tho :)

Hmm, Im worried that I've killed off a few people's plans over the course of the game, like with North King's Juggernaught. But then, i dont want to keep things alive just to avoid upsetting the players. Real world evolution seems to be brutal :(.

As for the 'insects', I think a lot of them would come from early crawling things aswell, like tidalworms and zibber-21. And maybe all kinds of microscopic mites and things that crawled out of the seas?

Daft give me time. I have to write orders for DaNES too.

No worries. The latest update has only been up since Sunday night, i'll be be accepting any new evolution stuff for a few days yet

Charles Li said:

Only one evolution per person, per turn. You could scrap the stormfinner and have something else if you wanted.

If you're referring to the delay of my Volaticyte plans, that was just my choice to evolve different things. It was just a lasting series of distractions.

So, there are little annelid-esque worms, tiny crawlers, and little flying beetle-esque things?

Hiborytes are essentially oversized ants without as much of a centralized social structure.
