Just to keep everyone aware, I have kept an evolution tree of everything up to date on my computer. If anyone wants to see a section of it, they just have to ask me.

Thanks everyone! :salute:

Enjoy the newest edition to the Finner family, and enjoy the full Finner table.

Thanks for sharing it! Great work once again :)

oh yea, sorry if this seems like a stupid question, im kinda tired right now, but what is the branching award for? sorry idk maybe i will go to sleep and wake up and realize it but for the life of me i can't think of what it means, and in case i wake up tomorrow and still can't think, what is the branching award for?

I think Abaddon answered your question. Yes, it is an attempt to reward people for not continuing the same line of evolution all the time, which otherwise may be the most logical thing to do.

Its a shame you don't have the time to make those awesome pictures of everthing "in situ" anymore, i liked those the best

I'd say that the lack of these pictures does, in all honesty, detract from the overall quality of the NES. The little humor there shows, to me, that Daft must have had some amusement himself in making the images.

Hey thanks very much :D Yes, I had fun making them sometimes :) But I really didn't think people took much notice of then, and since they could take several hours to put together, I thought it was better to leave them out. I will see what I can make for the next update!

@Crezth, I am greatly honored by your avatar :)

Im interested to see either the Auroras, or the Kakleia and Lupivus branches, if you have the time!

Can you make 2 NPCs? They are very similar and not important.

Both has parent and communal
one has eggs
one has live birth
both from a stalker

I'm starting on an 'Ottorus' line... A member will return to the sea!

Well, Daft, if it is at all hasslesome or in other ways bothersome to create those images, then they shouldn't be included because then they by extension cause updates to take longer and can add undue stress. I'm rather honored that you'd consider making anything related to that for the next update, but it is not an imperative in the least. Really, all I thought they did was make the atmosphere a little more charming, and I suppose it in a way made the NES a little more approachable. In a land of statistics and journal-like scientific entries, the pictures were not uninvited (to be convoluted about it).

And yes, I just liked that scene so much that I figured I'd make it my avatar. It's not as high quality as I'd have liked, but I had to make it a small JPEG to get the forums to allow it. Still, the Bulgorb is there in the skull in all its ironic glory.

@Charles Li, thanks for the idea :). I also think that the original Lung Scraper should also have another NPC offshoot next time.

@Crezth, compared to the time spent on making the species pictures in the first place, it really wasnt much to make those 'scenes'. Ill have a go at making some more once I've updated my other NES :o.

PS, that skull was from a 'Karakavalion', large crocodile-like creature, which kinda re-evolved this turn with the NPC 'Megalithavalion'.

One is a Reptile, the other a proto Mammal. Right now I am working on a Swimming Ottorus Scrapus. I just need a minuet to do other stuff and to think on it.

Wise Kakliea

Evolved from: Shadow Kakliea

Genes (40): Complex Stomach x4, Flesh Eating x4, Vibration Sense x2, Eyes x2, Brain Power x4, Skeleton x2, Cartilage x1, Jaws x2, Fangs x1, Communal Behaviour x3, Water Retention x2, Lungs x1, Walking x3, Climbing x3, Parenting Instinct x2, Live Birth x1, Fur x1, Claws x1, Stealth x1

Added: Opposable thumbs x1, Brain power x3
Removed: none

In this era a genetic mutation present in a proportion of new-born Shadow Kakliea caused their brains to develop much faster and greater then usual. This caused a large increase in their intelligence. They became more adept at climbing due to new opposable thumbs, which were also believed to allow the Wise Kakliea to create and use basic tools.

Also I found a mistake in the stats, S.Kakliea evolved from kakliea which evolved from the little lizrd thing.

Your not allowed to add that many genes to the same thing.

Spoiler :
Thulu Finner: NPC
Evolved from: Arrow Finner
Survival Status: Competing
Genes (28): Skeleton x2, Jaws x1, Plant Eating x5, Plankton Eating x3, Swimming x5, Eyes x3, Gills x3, Cold Resistance x1, Brain Power x2, Tentacle x1, Communal Behaviour x1, Parenting Instinct x1
Description: Evolved from the strange Arrow Finner, the Thulu Finner is even stranger. Its tentacles are used to make primitive nests on the sea floor, usually hidden amongst reefs or sea plants. Sometimes it may also carry around bits of food to share with others. As well as being brainy, it now has a simple social system, and families will often gather together to protect eggs and young hatchlings. Despite its odd shape, it is still a strong swimmer, with sharp eyesight and quick reactions to help evade predators.

Massive Finner : Slavic Sioux
Evolved from: Thulu Finner
Gene added (you can add 3, or 4 with bonus): Large Size, Scopolamine Poison, Host fungus and insects
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 3 or 4 with bonus): None
Description: This finner is a very different type than most other finners or even any other animal or plant out there. For one these finners have grown to a much larger size, but also has grown an immunity to the scopolamine poison. This fish has access to it when it swims in the waters surface it's skin has been designed to hold both algae and insects. When the insects are within the animal they will craw on top of it's skin to collect the fungus and then bring it back to the holes where the Finner can protect them. But with the constant bringing in of the lethal toxin Scopolamine algae into the holes of the finner it quickly becomes immune to the toxins. When the massive finner is under attack these insects will jump out and start to really bite which will in most cases will eliminate the attacker.

I'm fairly sure you can, I'll see what Daft has to say about it. Besides, I need to do *something* to move my animals away from the Lupivus line - the two are becoming very similiar, they're not evevn related.

Spoiler :
Great SpikeBall: The Farow
Evolved from: Greater Porcuball
Survival Status: Competing
Genes (34): Complex Stomach x2, Flesh Eating x1, Vibration Sense x3, Eyes x2, Brain Power x1, Skeleton x2, Cartilage x1, Jaws x1, Fangs x1, Communal Behaviour x2, Crawling x1, Water Retention x2, Lungs x2, Walking x2, Digging x2, Feathers x3, Strength x1, Leaping x1, Plant Eating x2, Cold Resistance x1, Spines x2, Large Size x1, Poison x1.
Description: The SpikeBall was a cousin to the Greater Porcuball that evolved fierce defences. It coated its sharper and stronger spines with poison that in itself did not kill. Most poison spikes cause irritation, swelling, and sickness that ward predators off. Finally, the Greater Porcuball was able to emerge from its hiding and foraging at night to challenge predators. Often, these creatures foraged together in small packs and would join together into a giant ball of spikes to ward off predators.

Farconicus Spike: The Farow
Evolved from: Great Spikeball
Gene added: poison x1, feathers x1, slime x1
Gene removed: crawling x1, leaping x1, large size x1
Description: The Farconicus Spikeball is named after a slime toxin called farconicus on it's underbelly. This poison is not deadly but causes major irritations to whoever eats it. Slimy feathers developed on its belly which rubs against the plants on the ground leaving toxins on its leaves. This reduced competition with herbivores giving a monopoly on grazing grounds to these heards. Producing the toxin required energy so individuals would take turns producing the toxins and spreading them in strategic spots in fields to reduce amount expended. These spikeballs can easily stop production of feather toxins in hard times. They also became smaller to reduce energy consumption. Their size is between the their large cousins the Great SpikeBall and their smaller cousins the porcuball.

OCC: Nice Update :goodjob:

So why not evolve something else? You don't have to evolve the same thing every time.

Also, someone definitly tried to add 3 of the same gene before and was turned down as it provides the scope for too large leap in evolution.

Imagine if you chose flightx3 or poisonx3 instead, and how silly it could be

You're not allowed to increase any one gene by more than two points in an evolution Kol.7. You'll have to switch one of your brainpower points to something else.

Your wish is my command Daftpanzer!

Iggy, why have you done it backwards?

Because both of those species happen to be facing left on my master tree of life. All lifeforms are radiating out of a central point, the first single-celled organisms (classified as 'plankton'). The overall shape is something similar to a Butterfly, interestingly enough.

Aah, could you possibly post the whole MegaTreetm ?
